How can a Lubbock judge determine what is done in other cities? So can a local judge of opposing schools ban Sorsby from playing in their city?
Yeah, this is unprecedented territory. You would think that some other school on their schedule could sue with standing to get an opposite ruling.

And not for nothing but he broke *actual laws* ... no idea what the statute of limitations is, but it's just unreal that this dude got an injunction with a trial date set for the week after the National Championship. It's pure corruption, Banana Republic style stuff.

I "liked" (NOT) the TV commentator thought that why shouldn't a school decide to pick up an NFL player who got cut, and was in a position of need? Now THAT would be the end of ANY reason/order in this. Cherrypick the secondary league. Folks talking like this needs a strong national law from congress.

Honestly a non-zero concern if you’re Sorsby, a blown out ACL is gonna do more financial damage than a supplemental NFL Draft…..

I don’t understand how a judge can overrule this.

When I played college baseball 10+ years ago, we signed an NCAA document each year stating we understood policies and rules. One of which, was gambling and its consequences. This was when gambling was not legalized like it is today.

If athletes still sign those, then how is this even possible to be overturned? He literally signed off stating he understood the rules.

Can a player sue their school if they get suspended for a game for violation of team rules?

as much as I hate the outcome of the Sorsby decision and the way Campbell is acting, the piling on sure feels like because the Big 10 and UGA doesn’t like that Tech can outspend them

Are we really going to pretend that Texas Tech was really going to schedule against the Big 10 or SEC amyway? I'm sure the likes of Abilene Christian will be happy to continue accepting their blood money to be Texas Tech's OOC "opponent."

They are discussing not playing TT in *anything*.

If the major leagues are all saying they won't play Tech in anything.... thats a black eye for the B12

It honestly feels like Texas Tech is oblivious and ignorant to how horrible the optics look with this. They should have RELEASED Sorsby after the gambling came to light. They didn't and allowed this kid to control the situation. It also feels like the entire university is run by Cambpell now. The aftermath of this mess will be interesting. Truly a seismic moment for college football and the NCAA.

It’s tough to believe this doesn’t end with Campbell and the university’s relationship being severely damaged. While he needs to be reigned in, as a TT fan, the alternative of him not being involved and going back to being just another mediocre B12 team is a realistic nightmare at this point.

The most unbelievable thing in this other than today's ruling is how myopic and short sighted Texas Tech is. Who knows where this will end up but I have a feeling it's going to be much worse than reputational and relationship damage. There has to be some type of recourse for NCAA here and Congress is being floated around along with teams boycotting playing them. Campbell comes across like a bilionaire child who wants his cake and eat it too at all costs. Incredulous right now with this deal.

Expect the NCAA to file an appeal in the next few days. Big 12 is going to meet to discuss options.

If he ends up playing, I'm guessing none of the sports books will have TTU games.

The Big 12's reaction here will be telling. The Big 10 is in discussions to include a MANDATE to not play Texas Tech in any sport. Before anyone scoffs at this, I think these reactions are legitimate and may have legs. Georgia and Nebraska are already out for playing them. You cannot compromise the integrity of the sport like this. A local judge should not have this type of autonomy. Honestly think Texas Tech made a massive mistake by allowing this kid to sue the NCAA.

I get *why* Texas Tech's football program/fans are being short sighted. They've been an also ran "major" program in football worshipping Texas for their entire existence. They think they are close to winning a natty, and a judge says the kid can play.

As a fan, I would have a hard time saying "No let's do the right thing here." But thats what the Athletic Department and President are for. It should be a no-brainer for the decision-makers there.

This should end in boycotts, blacklists, whatever. Football fans/schools/athletic departments around the country do not all hold themselves to the same standards and despite a lot of bellyaching on this board, thats probably ok. But it seems like everyone is in agreement here that this is fucked up.

As soon as Tech's season is over, whenever that may be, Sorsby will withdraw.

The appeal will not be heard.

There are options that wouldn't require waiting for February.

NCAA can file an appeal and move to stay the trial court's order pending that review. NCAA can also ask for an expedited appeal, based on the season falling before the scheduled trial date.

I don't know what's going to happen with either of those options, but we'll know well before February. And most likely before Sorsby reports to fall camp.
