Bad Rumor

You certainly can have it both ways. I feel the same way about an injury. I don't wish anyone to get injured, but I'd much rather Bruce Heggie get injured than Zach Martin.

If ND is "better" than other schools, its because it tries to enable them to take their education seriously and play football at the same time. I don't think you prove how much you care about a kid by pretending they are all equally valuable to the team's success. They aren't.

If a kid deserves to gets kicked out of school for doing something bad--if it is his fault and not the coach trying to make roster space--why would I not be relieved that he was not a key contributor? If its Malone, I feel bad for the kid, but his loss is not going to make a major impact on next season. Losing Golson was a much bigger blow than losing, say, Hendrix. Losing Bryant or Folston would have seriously sucked.

Sorry brother. This is fucked up. Crazy even. Not even gonna try and argue.

ESPN is doing an investigative front page report on a "program gone rogue" as we speak, as Taylor Lewan still registers a blip on their radar smaller than a Yugo hatchback.

I don't wish or hope its anyone on the team, but if I had to pick...well.. Thats another story.

This is how Brian Kelly is able to grey shirt like the SEC, send some thugs to a bar and fight the players, kicked out of school, ....., $$profit$$$

I think the point is that so much of what has been commented on, that isn't substantiated in the first place, just doesn't need to be said, let alone defended.

"Crazy"? I literally have no idea what you are talking about. Live in reality.

I never have, and never will, say a bad word about Mahone or anyone else on the team. But if a kid gets kicked off, I'd rather him not be a key contributor. It's the most obvious reaction in the world. That's not cynical, heartless, or anything else. Get a grip.

EDIT: To be abundantly clear, I was definitly not hoping it was anyone. I was relieved it was not Bryant or Folston.

Its funny how the internet turns what happened into something completely different than the actual story. I am extremely disappointed in some of the posts I have read in this thread. Its very disheartening to see fans wish and hope its a certain player.

In todays world, it has changed to a "now" culture and things are said without ever checking them, and they get turned into something that isnt accurate.

This situation has legs and when the time is right, it will be addressed, and my guess is there will be a deduction from the Notre Dame Football team. And the story on this board is further from the truth. But to say your relieved or hope its this player over another is beyond comprehension.

TP has a good point. You know what happens when you start saying things you think you know? You look like DeadSpin during the whole Lennay Kekua debacle.

As for people who would be relieved that it's Will, I understand why (he won't be contributing as much as Greg or Folston, etc.), but don't you ever think that maybe there's a little more to these guys than what happens on the field? If a guy is going to be kicked off the team and potentially out of the university, don't you think it's just a little sad? Makes you mad maybe?

It's just odd that we claim to be the one university that is different from all the rest because we care, but once a guy is off the football team or not a significant player, we don't?

Damn. Looks like he took a pretty nasty hook to the eye.

Assault on a police officer (and vandalism of public property - a police car?) will sometimes cause that to happen.
The fact that it happened back home would suggest that he wasn't in a fight with another Notre Dame football player. So much for those internet rumors.
But, really, this sounds like being drunk and maybe in a fight, and then responding poorly to police intervention. Most of those charges amount to "pissing off the cops." Not the greatest behavior in the world, but if no one was seriously hurt it's far from the worst either.

I never said I was relieved it was Mahone. I was relieved it WAS NOT Folston or Bryant. I was responding to TP's post that said it was not Folston or Mahone WELL BEFORE anyone had any idea what happened. I figured it was something in the same league as Golson. Bad but not the end of the world.

There are two things at play when a kid gets kicked off the team. His impact on himself, and his impact on his team. Golson let down more people then Hendrix would have in the same situation. Would I have been glad that Hendrix cheated? Of course not? I don't understand why people are insisting that I don't feel horrible for Mahone, just because I'm glad it wan't one of the key contributors to the team. I feel both.

"A house on Elm St. is on fire."
"Oh no, my brother lives on Elm St."
"It wasn't his house."
"Thank goodness."
"You are happy that someone else's house burned down?"
"Of course not."

This is fucking terrible news. Terrible for Will. Terrible for the team (this season). Terrible for the school - just wait til the media gets their hands on this. The fact that anyone is concerned about schollies right now is beyond me. This is a human being that represents the University of Notre Dame. This is like talking ill of the deceased while standing over their open casket.

I had high hopes for him. He was my favorite recruit for that class.

Can we agree that everything that can be said about this topic was probably covered back when Rees/Calabrese had altercations with the police and skip the fighting amongst ourselves?

This sucks for Mahone, but why do we believe he's being kicked out of school? Obviously the full story of what happened hasn't yet been told, but unless someone was seriously hurt - and those charges don't read that way - this strikes me as a "few games' suspension" kind of thing.

So, is it confirmed he's been dismissed and kicked out of school?

Not at ND. Our players get a semester suspension for getting caught with marijuana, let alone serious charges like this.

Feel awful for Will. What a shame. I hope he rededicates himself and through faith finds his way...

Hopefully he didn't do anything worse than Rees .

To repeat what I put in his thread. I hope he wasn't the reason for all of this, just involved. Learns a valuable lesson and doesn't lose his season. Good luck, Will.

EDIT: College kids go out all the time and are targeted if they are fit, built, with a group, big time athlete, etc. If he handled business AFTER getting involved involuntarily, I would hope ND would understand that. Suspend him 2 games or 4 weeks pre-season and move on. Coach him, don't end him.

You do recall Misters Rees and Calabrese getting arrested for assaulting a police officer a couple of years ago, right? They missed, what, one game apiece? This is probably more serious than that, but if it's a first-time thing, it seems a bit harsh to toss the kid.
