You certainly can have it both ways. I feel the same way about an injury. I don't wish anyone to get injured, but I'd much rather Bruce Heggie get injured than Zach Martin.
If ND is "better" than other schools, its because it tries to enable them to take their education seriously and play football at the same time. I don't think you prove how much you care about a kid by pretending they are all equally valuable to the team's success. They aren't.
If a kid deserves to gets kicked out of school for doing something bad--if it is his fault and not the coach trying to make roster space--why would I not be relieved that he was not a key contributor? If its Malone, I feel bad for the kid, but his loss is not going to make a major impact on next season. Losing Golson was a much bigger blow than losing, say, Hendrix. Losing Bryant or Folston would have seriously sucked.
IE really stinks these days.
Sorry brother. This is fucked up. Crazy even. Not even gonna try and argue.
Its funny how the internet turns what happened into something completely different than the actual story. I am extremely disappointed in some of the posts I have read in this thread. Its very disheartening to see fans wish and hope its a certain player.
In todays world, it has changed to a "now" culture and things are said without ever checking them, and they get turned into something that isnt accurate.
This situation has legs and when the time is right, it will be addressed, and my guess is there will be a deduction from the Notre Dame Football team. And the story on this board is further from the truth. But to say your relieved or hope its this player over another is beyond comprehension.
Shoot. I'll be praying for the kid.
Damn. Looks like he took a pretty nasty hook to the eye.
Assault on a police officer (and vandalism of public property - a police car?) will sometimes cause that to happen.
The fact that it happened back home would suggest that he wasn't in a fight with another Notre Dame football player. So much for those internet rumors.
But, really, this sounds like being drunk and maybe in a fight, and then responding poorly to police intervention. Most of those charges amount to "pissing off the cops." Not the greatest behavior in the world, but if no one was seriously hurt it's far from the worst either.
As for people who would be relieved that it's Will, I understand why (he won't be contributing as much as Greg or Folston, etc.), but don't you ever think that maybe there's a little more to these guys than what happens on the field? If a guy is going to be kicked off the team and potentially out of the university, don't you think it's just a little sad? Makes you mad maybe?
It's just odd that we claim to be the one university that is different from all the rest because we care, but once a guy is off the football team or not a significant player, we don't?
This sucks for Mahone, but why do we believe he's being kicked out of school? Obviously the full story of what happened hasn't yet been told, but unless someone was seriously hurt - and those charges don't read that way - this strikes me as a "few games' suspension" kind of thing.
Not at ND. Our players get a semester suspension for getting caught with marijuana, let alone serious charges like this.
