The details on that story are even worse than you'd think. That whole staff from AD on down need to be fired immediately.

It's absolutely horrifying to read. Fitz isn't just a whiny douchebag, he's also a colossal scumbag to allow that to continue. And I don't believe for a second he didn't know, especially since he's quoted having participated in the clapping activity shaming players who made mistakes.

I don’t like Fitz and Northwestern journos are a pompous scourge on sports media so I don’t really care what happens here.

With that being said, I do think it’s overstated how much coaches “know” what’s going on sometimes. And often allegations are twisted to look as bad as possible. I do hope we get the results of the full investigation published in an unbiased manner.

Makes too much money for Northwestern standards

Baller move for the people not wanting to pay a ridiculous buyout to push out this story right now.

Allegations can get twisted for sure, and everyone has their agendas (even student journalists, but go on how they’re somehow a scourge on sports media).

But I don't know how we're supposed to square the awesome power that we're told coaches (and their many many underlings) hold over big-time football programs with the notion that they don't know full well what goes on in the locker room. If they don’t know, that’s on them too.

Either way, yes a full accounting of the investigation itself would be good to see.

If these allegations are found to be true, I don't see how Fitzgerald could possibly remain as the coach. Certainly not great news for recruiting, either. It would make sense for the university to take the opportunity to clean their house of their overpaid and underperforming coach.

The school president should be next. That backtrack is also a terrible look. Lack of leadership at his finest.

I would say NU should release the Hickey Report, but if they're reopening the investigation, that's likely not going to happen. Which makes me trust them even less than I did a few days ago.

They tried to bury this and it's coming down on them fast. This is why we need real journalism in this country. They almost got away with this but it looks like it's starting to unravel.

The odd takes here are the swipes at Northwestern journalists. I really can't connect what it has to do with Pat Fitzgerald being a complete prick for over a decade and failing to lead his program in a way that all of us would want at Notre Dame.

This story would not be what it is without some darn good student journalism.

Right. A bunch of college students didn't let their school get away with a Friday news dump the week after Fourth of July. This has done a service to Evanston, Northwestern and college football. Fuck this crap. Penn State, Baylor, all of it. The Wildcat football apologists are coming to Fitzgerald's defense and people were threatening these kids from the jump.

This is exactly why wealthy and powerful elites are doing all they can to eliminate journalism and free speech. They want to cover up their bullshit unchecked and get away with whatever they can.

Just very convenient that this all came out after his 2 worst years at NU.

Someone showed the university president how much it’ll cost to fire him after the season.

Buddy backed up right quick.

Sure maybe it was a hit by some booster (?) or even the new AD who wanted a clean way to dump him. Though the way the initial report came out it doesn’t feel that way.

It also came out at a time when student athletes are more empowered than they have ever been before and maybe more willing to speak up about bad shit. And that’s a good thing.

It’s crazy to see stuff like this continue happening after the amount of successful coaches who have gone down for over the last ten years,… what kind of a bubble do you have to be in??

Too bad they didn't have any good recruits to poach, but maybe some transfers?

Seems like a "mutual agreement regarding the appropriate resolution" is an admission of guilt, there, Pat.

That said, Northwestern has well and truly screwed up with how this has been handled.

He can threaten legal action all he wants. He's not getting his job back. It's just about how much money he can squeeze out of them in severance.
But yeah Northwestern had months to figure out the best way to handle this, and instead came up with pretty much the worst.

If Dan Webb is his attorney, it's about to get interesting.

We've seen what their journalism can do. Now we'll find what Northwestern Law School is all about.

Of course money but also his reputation. Assuming he wants to continue coaching, he needs to fight back.

His reputation is either he knew and did nothing, or he didn't know and was negligent.

It's the definition of a lack of institutional control.

they need to release the report with the names of victims/witnesses redacted. Make it public and he has no case.

Fitzgerald has $40+ million remaining on his contract and Schill just fired him w/o negotiating a buyout. Wild.

Schill has yet to show his face. All communication has been via letters at this point.

The AD Gragg is nowhere to be found. Cowardice.
