The details on that story are even worse than you'd think. That whole staff from AD on down need to be fired immediately.
Allegations can get twisted for sure, and everyone has their agendas (even student journalists, but go on how they’re somehow a scourge on sports media).I don’t like Fitz and Northwestern journos are a pompous scourge on sports media so I don’t really care what happens here.
With that being said, I do think it’s overstated how much coaches “know” what’s going on sometimes. And often allegations are twisted to look as bad as possible. I do hope we get the results of the full investigation published in an unbiased manner.
The odd takes here are the swipes at Northwestern journalists. I really can't connect what it has to do with Pat Fitzgerald being a complete prick for over a decade and failing to lead his program in a way that all of us would want at Notre Dame.
Right. A bunch of college students didn't let their school get away with a Friday news dump the week after Fourth of July. This has done a service to Evanston, Northwestern and college football. Fuck this crap. Penn State, Baylor, all of it. The Wildcat football apologists are coming to Fitzgerald's defense and people were threatening these kids from the jump. This story would not be what it is without some darn good student journalism.
Someone showed the university president how much it’ll cost to fire him after the season.Just very convenient that this all came out after his 2 worst years at NU.
Sure maybe it was a hit by some booster (?) or even the new AD who wanted a clean way to dump him. Though the way the initial report came out it doesn’t feel that way.Just very convenient that this all came out after his 2 worst years at NU.
The university tried to bury the story.Just very convenient that this all came out after his 2 worst years at NU.
Seems like a "mutual agreement regarding the appropriate resolution" is an admission of guilt, there, Pat.
That said, Northwestern has well and truly screwed up with how this has been handled.
Of course money but also his reputation. Assuming he wants to continue coaching, he needs to fight back.He can threaten legal action all he wants. He's not getting his job back. It's just about how much money he can squeeze out of them in severance.
But yeah Northwestern had months to figure out the best way to handle this, and instead came up with pretty much the worst.
Schill has yet to show his face. All communication has been via letters at this point.Fitzgerald has $40+ million remaining on his contract and Schill just fired him w/o negotiating a buyout. Wild.
