B1G season to start 10/23. 8 games. Screw these guys for thinking they deserve playoff consideration with that.

I think the COVID restrictions in place will make it hard for some team's to move through the season without major issues.

1. If the team's positivity rate exceeds 5% or the population's positivity rate exceeds 7.5%, the team must pause practice and competition for at least seven days. If the team's positive rate is between 2% and 5% or the population's positivity rate is between 3.5% and 7.5%, the team "must proceed with caution and enhance COVID-19 prevention."

2. Football players who test positive for COVID-19 must wait at least 21 days to return to competition, as they will undergo "comprehensive cardiac testing" before being cleared by a cardiologist designated by each university primarily for that purpose.

perhaps that is why Wade and Davis opted out for OSU?

B1G putting every piece in place to not play but look like they wanted to.

I don't think the B1G has anything like a singular intention here. Rumors have a handful of B1G schools ready to go online only due to case numbers.

I suspect it was very hard to get to unanimity from all the member schools so they agreed to what they could agree to. It's one of the disadvantages of a conference with 14 members spread out from Nebraska to New Jersey.

I was talking to a co-worker today about this who is a huge OSU fan. He thinks (of course) that they were mad at the Big 10 for not giving them any info on what they would be doing, so they just decided heck with it and opted out. I pointed out that there’s no good reason to opt out in September, hire an agent, and forfeit your eligibility if you truly wanted to play this fall and hold out hope for some sort of a season. Why not just wait and announce in January like normal? Even if you didn’t want to play, it doesn’t make sense to take away your options this soon, you could just work out on your own. To me I think their decision was based off money. They likely got an agent in their ear about being able to subsidize them for the next several months and took the offer.

I'm glad for the players in the fact that they are getting an opportunity to play. But the B1G looks really bad here. They addressed their concerns with myocarditis by saying that they will extensively test for it? LoL.

Were they not already testing for this condition prior to Covid? Myocarditis isn't something new or born from Covid. The B1G should have just said we screwed up when they cancelled the season too soon. Their reasons for cancelling then was no better than their reasons for announcing they were starting back up today. For a conference that prides themselves for being the leader, it's gratifying seeing them with a bit of egg on their face today.

Their excuse for changing their mind is the rapid test results available now that weren't available when they made the decision to not play.

Those are reasonable restrictions. If I was a B10 player, I'd seriously consider opting out whether I was an NFL prospect or not. Once you've played five games, you use up a year of eligibility. If you contract Covid, you are out for three games at least and need cardiac clearance. If you are a fifth year, why not get your degree and move on? If you've chosen a worthless major or the school has provided you that choice, there's blame to be shared.

Kirk said today that, if OSU ends up only playing 6 games but dominates every game, they should be able to qualify for the CFP.

As long as they run scUM into the ground, I'd be OK with that so long as it doesn't bump ND lol.

Based on the schedule, it looks like the Big 10 said F you to Nebraska for suing us and gave Ohio State the easiest road to undefeated.

Yea, OSU, then Wiscy lol.

How delicious would it be for OSU to get upset that game, or lose the next week at PSU lol.

The Big evidently used the "hot beef injection" algorithm to come up with Nebraska's schedule.

Glorious.

So now there’s 4 P5 conferences vying for four spots in the CFP. I think we all know it’s not going to be as easy as just slotting in the champ from each conference. For instance, what if the SEC or ACC has a team that loses in their conf champ game to a team they previously beat in the regular season to finish 10-1? And then tOSU finishes 6-0 w/ two cancellations. That will turn into the SCOTUS argument in a heartbeat w/ both sides digging their heels in. Have your popcorn ready.

All I know is that after this is all done and pOSU gets in playing two less games, I NEVER want to hear about a 13th data point ever again.
