If it can be as uninteresting/awesome as the Navy game last year I'll be happy. I'm more interested in basking in the glory of fall/football/beer/grilling the first Saturday than getting worked up.

Matt Rhule runs the program much like Golden did with the major exception that Rhule believes in using the pass to establish the run. They will likely run a 4-3 again, although they are replacing a nationally respected coordinator, Chuck Heater who is now at Marshall, with a somewhat unknown, Phil Snow from Eastern Michigan.

Connor Reilly will be their quarterback. He is a pro-style QB who really burst onto the scene this spring. He is a much better fit in this offense than Addazio's last year.

No major injuries during the spring, although their projected starting tackle is rehabbing a shoulder injury from last year. If he accepts the medical he will be the starter in the fall.

Two guys who can, and will, run H-back. Kevin Newsome, a former Penn State QB who backed up Daryll Clark in '09, and Chris Coyer, who played QB for them last year and scored a pair of TDs in the spring game.

They are replacing their 1,000 yd back, Montel Harris. The two likely ball carriers are former fullback Kenny Harper and Jamie Gilmore. Gilmore was ranked as high as the 7 APB on Rivals but he hasn't proven himself to be a go-to option. The competition will likely be open going into the fall and freshman Zaire Williams will have an opportunity to win the job.

Former tightend Cody Booth has bulked up to 6'5" 300 to try to replace the void at OT left by Martin Wallace, who signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Browns. Booth has looked as good or better.

Two players to look out for are Khalif Herbin and Romond Deloatch. Herbin is a shifty slot guy who runs a 4.34 (no word if it is electronic, wind-aided, or self reported), while Deloatch is a big WR who can also play TE. Both have had "spectacular" springs.

It's a Q&A with Mike Gibson of Templefootballfever.com, I will summarize it in a few. Anything specific you want me to look for?

The part about how their new offense is going to destroy ND.

I thought Chuck Heater was at Marshal. The Chuck Heater that coached and OSU and ND?

Bogs you're right. I wrote it backwards. Heater has gone to Marshall and Snow is coming from Eastern Michigan. I will edit OP. Thanks for the correction

Without Golson this game is almost certainly going to be a 19 to 16 ND win in a triple over time thriller. Regulation will end at 10 all then Nix will block a FG in the 3 OT to seal the deal.

I know Chicago's comment was sarcasm so this is not a response to that.

Regarding Temple: a] they were 122nd in the nation in yards per game [only Maryland and Massachusetts were worse];

b]. they were 5th to last in passing, only the three military academies and The Fighting Davies of New Mexico had less;

c]. they had one decent offensive weapon, who was a senior ballcarrier. Even there his stats were slightly phony as 7 of his 12 touchdowns were against Army, and 351 of his 1054 yards against them. Without that one game he and the Temple running attack were "pedestrian".

My point here is that we are going into that game as the veteran number one defense in the country. It should be a defensive massacre. Kelly will have an entire four quarters to try whatever he wants out [QB, RB, RG etc] with very little risks. Diaco's big challenge will be keeping the guys taking this game seriously and not getting sloppy.

This is why you don't schedule a power first game.

Those early September games can be hot with the sun beating down on you all game. Bring sun screen and maybe some water (has to be sealed if it's going into the stadium)

And this game is in August! But yeah it will be hotter than the hinges of hell in that stadium with 80,000 people in it

Pray for low 70's and overcast and rain. I have been to two night games, '12 UM, and '11 SC, where it was in the 40's and still comfortable in shirtsleeves in the stadium!

Hell yes, love the night games. Rain has been awesome too for probably all games except South Florida two years ago...that was a mess with evacuations and restarts, not to mention the loss. One of my favorite games ever was the '08 Michigan game in the pouring rain though, so much fun and it kept you cool! The water was cascading down the steps at the stadium like a waterfall, and Michigan couldn't hold onto the ball for crap :laugh:
