Ren should pale in comparison to a New Hope Vader because Ren is not as far along in his journey to the dark side as Vader.

I suppose I see what you're saying, but I don't think that the experience is the deciding factor in anything other than how completely turned to the Dark Side Ren would be. Obviously it's a little unfair to compare any new character to one of the most iconic villains in movie history, but Abrams intentionally welcomed the comparison. I still look forward to the character's further development, but I thought the critic hit the nail on the head, especially for Snoke.

Exactly. And Ren/Snoke is like Vader/Sideous because of the Sith/Apprentice model they established. You could say that Maul/Sideous was similar as well.

FWIW, I thought Daisy Ridley was incredible. Driver was very good as well (the fight scene is fantastic...smacking his wounds to try to get strength, etc. But I thought Ridley was the stand out.

Well I guess we'll have to disagree, because I was not a fan of Daisy in this movie. Yes, she's attractive, and she certainly has chemistry with the other actors, which is great. However, I really thought her inexperience was apparent. Then again, everyone other than John Boyega has had significantly more experience than her working in films.

Who wasn't a victim of Lucas' prequels? There's the actors, the production crew, critics, fans....only Lucas could turn one of the baddest mofos alive in Samuel L Jackson into a lifeless, boring Jedi. Should have made him a Sith, imo.

Rogue One presale tickets went on sale today in the US. I organized a group outing with friends and family to an IMAX Saturday matinee last year. It was a great time and everyone wanted in again this year. Now's the time to get a block of tickets before they sell out, if you plan to go opening week.

Eh, just watched all 40 minutes of it. "Hilarious and deserves your time" are debateable. Couple funny lines in there, but not worth the full watch. I'd like my time back. Thought it was going to get good when C-3PO started tripping out at Obi-Wan's halfway through. To be fair I've probably done laser tag all of 6 times in my life. Maybe you have to be a big laser tag aficionado to appreciate this.

Still processing it. My biggest takeaway: hold onto your butts. It is very fast paced. That's both my main criticism for the first third of the movie and what makes the last two-thirds special. I walked out excited that I am seeing it again on Saturday. I'll leave it at that for now to avoid potential spoilers.

The trailer for Dunkirk left me mouth-agape. Hope they play it at your showings as well.

I don't care for gimmicky 3D nonsense, and IMAX 3D was all that was available in my area. But the "3D" usage in Rogue One and The Force Awakens have been tastefully done, IMO. IMAX is the way to go.

I really really liked it. It was gritty and the world really felt lived in. I can see where some people are coming from wanting some more development of the side characters but IMO I didn't really care to know every single one of their backstories. There is enough in the movie for you to understand who each character is and what their personality is supposed to be and you're already rooting for them because they are the good guys. If they added the 15-20 minutes of necessary intro that it would require to really flesh all of them out people would be complaining that the movie is too slow and that the first 1/3 takes too long.

As Johannes has said the last 2/3 is off the chain, the action is probably the best of any star wars film. Also anyone that is buying their ticket specifically for Vader should be warned that he is used very sparingly in the movie, but my god when they do use him it's incredible. He's terrifying.

I can't wait to see it again.

Just got back. Saw in 3D. Pleased. Very pleased. If this is how they are going to do the other story type movies then I am super hyped. Visuals and the wide scale shots were amazing.
