This is borderline hilarious to me: you know if the other guy is eligible, you aren't gonna win the job. But if he's not eligible, you're gonna stick around because the other QB's are also shitty enough that you might start.

Jim Harbaugh killing the game at QB.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Source: QB Wilton Speight would be open to a Michigan return if Shea Patterson doesn't gain eligibility in 2018 <a href="https://t.co/7DMtPGRpvh">https://t.co/7DMtPGRpvh</a></p>— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) <a href="https://twitter.com/nickbaumgardner/status/956682681638686721?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 26, 2018</a></blockquote>

that is some team chemistry right there!

Makes me wonder how he was ever successful with CK at the 9ers

I have a theory that he struck gold with Andrew Luck, and everyone just assumed it was because Harbaugh is a great coach for QB's...

But that wasn't true. Luck was going to be good no matter what, and his success with Kaepernick in the NFL was a coincidence, built around the beginning of the "zone read" fad in the NFL.

Kaepernick and Harbaugh made it work because NFL defenses hadn't adjusted yet. As soon as they adjusted, Kaepernick's numbers started going down the shitter.

TL;DR
Harbaugh got lucky in landing Andrew Luck, who was going to be awesome no matter who coached him. He then got lucky with Kaepernick, because the NFL hadn't adjusted to the option-QB fad yet. Harbaugh isn't the QB-whisperer that everyone seems to think. scUM to this point is all the evidence you need.

He made Alex Smith look pretty decent too.

Counterpoint: Alex Smith is an exactly average NFL QB, much like Andy Dalton. If you put great pieces around him and a game-manager gameplan, he will succeed. Harbaugh's offense is perfect for that.

If you don't have stars around them, or you ask them to shoulder the load, they don't sustain success.

But Smith was very much not good the previous years. Plus Harbaugh helped the running game get going and brought in Fangio to ratchet up the defense a few notches. Harbaugh may not be the elite coach everyone claims (I'd take John any day over Jim), but you don't make it to 3 consecutive NFC championship appearances with a Super Bowl participation ribbon in there if you're a bad coach. I think Harbaugh is good and does get more from QBs, but I think his impact is greater for the entire team than just the quarterback

I'm not saying he's a bad coach haha. He's clearly one of the best out there. I'm just saying his rep as a QB-guru is inflated.

He got lucky with Luck, and again with the timing of Kaepernick's success... otherwise, his QB's have been glorified game managers within a good pro-style system. That fits Alex Smith perfectly, as evidenced by how good AND bad Smith looked at times throughout this season.

Ole Miss transfers building appeal cases proving they were misled by Hugh Freeze

Including Shea Patterson, who has verbaled to Michigan.

Six Ole Miss players seeking immediate transfer waivers have assembled what are being portrayed as previously unknown smartphone and electronic interactions showing they were allegedly misled as to the extent of potential NCAA violations and punishments for the Rebels in statements made by former coach Hugh Freeze, CBS Sports has learned.

The documents will go into packages the players will submit seeking an appeal for immediate eligibility at their new schools. Without that waiver, they would have to adhere to NCAA rules that require transferring athletes to sit one year in academic residence.

I actually wanna play against Shea Patterson week one. Bring it on Michigan! Shea is extremely talented and Harbaugh showed what he can do with a mobile QB in Kaep and an above average athlete at the QB position in Alex Smith. Besides Andrew Luck I think Shea has the most talent Jimbo has had at the QB position in his coaching career. I think very highly of Shea and he can really spin the football.

All I'm saying is I want our best team vs Michigan best team. If I'm Clark Lea and that defense I say bring it on Shea and let's see what you punk ass bitches got. Our 11 best your 11 best and after we beat their ass I don't wanna hear Tomhasbeen our favorite IE Michigan poster saying "We'll if we would have had Shea we would have beaten you guys by 10" No we are gonna kick your ass with whoever you have behind center and I hope it's Shea because we are gonna be flying around the ball. Go Irish

I want Michigan to have a mediocre year and face the prospect of dumping Harbaugh. So nay to Patterson

lol dude they are not dumping Harbaugh

There is no better coach out there for Michigan and it's probably the best coach they will land for another 20+ seasons. He's the perfect storm for them right now. I hate the dude just as much as anyone else but I think people forget how great of a coach he can be with the right QB.

If they finish with 8 or less wins that means the best coach for them isn't the wunderkin they thought. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. And yearning for the days of Bo...

I'd rather have the W; don't really care how. A bad win >>> good loss IMO, but maybe that's just me.

EDIT: Did you also want Bama in '12?

Lol no I wanted a national title but I knew we didn't really stand a chance against that Bama team and Bama that night. They had such better players and we looked so damn small and slow. Think we have closed the gap but we need to land more elite players and continue doing a good job in the player development area. I wanna play Shea and see what he's got and what Lea is gonna call and see our good can be. It won't be 2012 good but it will hands down be the best defense since then and it's not even close IMO. IMO it's more talented then 2012 just missing the star power of nix, Tuitt and manti

Shea Patterson’s first game as a Wolverine will be a real punch in the nose if gets approval on his transfer.

The Irish D is going to be outstanding with all the players returning and having another off season with Balis.

I certainly don’t feel sorry for him, but he is going to have to perform big time to move the ball effectively.

Michigan QBs over perform only for ND games.

I call bullshit. Only way you didn’t know what was going on at Ole Miss is if you lived under a rock and didn’t cash your check. EVERYONE in America knew what was going on. No special exceptions should be allowed.

This...

These guys want to have their cake (illegal payments received as recruits) and eat it too (transfer out without penalty once the school gets caught).

UM lost a commit from Kevin Doyle, 3 star QB, apparently they wanted him to grayshirt/take a prep school year and he declined

Michigan is approaching 85 scholarship players. With Doyle's decommitment, Michigan is now at 84 scholarship players (41 Off, 41 Def, 2 ST). That includes one graduate transfer, Casey Hughes, S from Utah. Currently, Michigan has three verbals who are not counted towards the 84 - Michael Barrett (Ath/RB), Ronnie Bell (WR, no other FB scholarship offers), and Otis Reese, SLB.

Michigan has no other WR commits or signees other than Bell. Bell mainly played basketball in high school and had no other FB scholarship offers. Other than McGrone, Reese is their only other LB recruit in this class. Reese is from Georgia and down to Michigan and the Dawgs. Georgia is making a push but it's not clear if they have room. Michigan is also in the final group for Calvin Anderson, OL, a graduate transfer from Rice.

Without further attrition, the last scholarship could be either for Reese or Anderson. Nicholas Petit-Frere is considering Michigan and would get the final scholarship, if he wants it.
