Rumours abound that Drevno, Hamilton and Frey are out. Dan Enos and Greg Roman will be added. And a move towards the pistol Harbaugh ran in SanFran.

New offense, new QB - advantage ND.

Winovich returing for 5th year, passing up a sure NFL draft pick.

IMO if Harbaugh does not win the BIG East next year (likely not) the seat is going to get red hot. People are souring on the schtick with no tangible results. Sounds like right on schedule if you believe the talk about SanFran/Stanford etc.

Not always true. In fact, more often than not it seems like teams that are running a new offense/defense get the jump on teams at the beginning of the season because there's little to no film on what they're doing. Teams end up catching the opposition off guard (Example: BVG's defense early in his career at ND). Weis caught a lot of teams off guard when he first came in too.

Doesn't Shea have to get approval from the NCAA to play next year? I thought only seniors were automatically granted amnesty from the transfer rule.

Yes. That's true on Shea but most believe he will be eligible immediately due to Ole Miss' sanctions.

Which is ridiculous as I thought the NCAA specifically said that only those players with 1 year of eligibility remaining would be immediately eligible and all other players would need to wait a year. Of course, this being a way for the NCAA to screw over ND YET AGAIN, Shea will not experience any delay in receiving his waiver

I wish they could just play Michigan next week instead

Samesies. They're going to be much better next year. Their main issue is their offense and QB situation... both will likely be fixed by the time we play them, and we will have ZERO film on what they're going to run.

The Shea Patterson thing just blows my mind. He knew Ole Miss was cheating... everyone knew Ole Miss was cheating... and he signed with them specifically to get a payout to his family. But he's going to get a free pass and ability to transfer+start immediately. It's a joke.

Cross Harbaugh off the list of candidates for the Colts HC position. Indy Star reported (from insiders) that Irsay is leaving the process to Ballard and the only time Harbaugh's name came up was when Irsay asked Ballard if he was on his list. It was a curiosity question and not a recommendation.

Will be interesting to see Harbaugh and Kelly one-up each other, during their pregame chat midfield, with their ultra alpha egos.

Harbaugh will most likely have his shirt off.

To be fair, that's our only issue too. We're good at WR, RB, OL, TE, and overall defense if the safety play improves.

I wouldn't say that's their only issue. Their "stud" WRs were duds this year plus their Oline is a train wreck. I'll give them the defense, but even USC exploited it. I am pretty confident that ND is going to win that game. At home, first game, they'll probably have a new QB in their possibly new system.

I'm sure the staff will look at film of the school the new OC came from.

I don't know if Michigan simply thought the game was over or USC really stepped it up but from about seven minutes left in the third on the USC offense was having great success against that vaunted D. USC had a terrible offense this year and fired their O coordinator after the season and haven't hired a new one yet.

You guys think it'll be the same? Despite years of difference + completely different personnel + different staff influences?

What BVG rand at Georgia was different than what he did at Auburn was different than what he did at ND. What Kelly did at Cinci was different than what he has run at ND.

etc. etc. you get very minimal value going back retroactive with film to previous organizations especially if there's a time lapse or significant personnel difference.

I trust Elko. Now, I don't know if I should trust Chip Long preparing a game plan that will neutralize Rashan Gary though

Will we be though? I feel like TE is the only offensive group that we know what we're getting next year.

I mean, we're virtually returning 4 starers at OL, and we have a 3rd year high 4 star (Liam) or 2nd year 4-star (Banks) ready to step in. Losing McGlinchey and Nelson sucks, but that would suck regardless of what we have coming back.

I think our OL situation will be better than 85% of schools.

And WR, Claypool was really becoming a player and will be healthy. ESB will be back I'm guessing. Boykin showed that while he runs a 10 second 40, he's big, strong, and has hands. I think Michael Young is ready to go, and I think Kevin Austin is Dez Bryant 2.0 and will play day 1.

That's sneakily a lot of experience coming back. With a good QB I think we're have really good WRs next year. ESB + 3rd year Claypool + 2nd year Michael Young + 3rd year Boykin + Freshman stud isn't too bad at all.

If we get something out of 3rd year Javon McKinley, all the better. And if Braden Lenzy is who you guys think he is, he'll get 5 snaps a game too.

OL is all about playing as a unit. We will be returning 4 players with PT experience, yes, but the unit as a whole will be new. TBD there...

WR -- we have no idea who's back and who's not, but make no bones about it, we lost our most talented received in Stepherson. Claypool and ESB, if they can play consistently, can be top-tier. But what have we seen to suggest they will? I LOVE Austin and everything we hear about Young gives us reason to be optimistic (plus McKinley anyone?), but the truth is until they prove it on the college level consistently, it means nothing. I just think we have more questions on O than we realize. I think there's a shit-ton of talen, but it's largely unproven or inconsistent.

NOW, if we had a reasonable schedule (like 95% of the rest of FBS teams), maybe these guys could have a couple cupcakes to get up to speed and establish a rhythm and confidence, but alas I digress...

do i think it will be identical to his past years of pistol O? absolutely not.

do i think Harbaugh is suddenly going to reinvent himself and get a creative offense that catches the world off guard? absolutely not.

His offenses have always been bland, and his best years he had either Andrew Luck or a young Colin Kaepernick. Is Shea Patterson on that level?

I get what you're saying, but I think it will be close enough. Coaches are a lot like camillians. They may change their color, but they are who they are.

Concerning the WR's, I think we'll be okay. I firmly believe a lot of their shortcomings this year were due to QB play.

Does it really matter? ND makes UM quarterbacks look like Heisman candidates and when ND should win they don't. I hate playing Michigan.
