I don't know why he'd be envious. UM is having a big day.

Why, why, why ...

I'd hit him with a participial phrase to the right jaw. Then a gerund phrase to the gut. I'd finish him off with a a series of Oxford Commas jabs to the chin.

I'll take all the support in my corner I can get, though.

Awwww......you had me at hello!!!

Since we're discussing Purdue, further proof that announcers are imbeciles: in the first half of the Michigan State-Indiana game, the announcers were discussing the ND-Florida State game tonight. One announcer picks FSU, stating that he didn't think that ND had been tested given our schedule. The same announcer two minutes later, in discussing Michigan's State's win against Purdue last week, says, "Purdue is a really good football team." Sir, do you have any clue that the ND team you call untested beat that "very good" Purdue team earlier this season? Or are you just pulling stuff out of your ass?

I got into an argument before the Michigan game with ND fans who believed Michigan wasn't STILL racist. I mean, even if the school has a century of bigotry behind them led by that motherf*cker Fielding "I hate black people and Catholics" Yost, they couldn't POSSIBLY still be racist today, right? Well...

Michigan QB: 'I've been called the N-word so many times this year'

"I've been called the N-word so many times this year," Gardner told the Detroit News. "One guy told me I was the N-word, and said, 'I know N-words can't play quarterback.' And I was like, 'Are we not past this?' Say what you want about my skill, but come on."

Guys racism exists everywhere, in every fanbase across the country. I understand hating Michigan, but purposefully and ignorantly using broad brush strokes to insinuate that Michigan fans on the whole are racist or that Michigan as an institution is racist comes across as petty. Even worse it muddles the very real evil of prejudice and hatred with the harmless rivalry and competition our schools have between them. Please don't do it.

This is all true. Every word of it.

But I would be remiss if I also didn't post:

Their school/fans do choose to actively revere a flagrant racist/bigot

Yost is a really bad look for them but to be fair Id be shocked if all our 1920's icons fit in with modern day sensibilities regarding race and religious tolerance.

I'm just saying: Let's not do this ok guys? We're better than that.

I'll stop calling Michigan racist when they take that bigot's name off their hockey arena and stop parading him around like he was God's gift to football. That's on them. That's on the institution today. When they say that the Willis Ward incident was not reflective of their values enough to say Fielding Yost was a bad person who happened to coach regionally effective football and that they don't want him representing them, then I'll be happy to give them the benefit of "the past is in the past" and "racists are everywhere." For now, I'm going to stick to my guns and I don't think I'm petty for doing that, not when there is a decent amount of evidence that Michigan is, as they have always believed, exceptional.

True that. My neighbor who is from Philly and more of an NFL fan (Eagles) but casually follows college told me this yr ND would not be successful with a "N-word" leading them at QB, and "There are no good "N-word" QBs"......I was very much offended as my wife is of mixed ethnicity. I proceeded to ramble off names like Warren Moon, Randle Cunningham, Cam Newton, Jamies Winston, Dak Prescott, Kappernick....

Next time add Chuck Ealey :

Charles "Chuck" Ealey (born January 6, 1950 in Portsmouth, Ohio) is a former American Canadian football player for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. Ealey played college football at the University of Toledo and high school football for Notre Dame High School in Portsmouth, Ohio.

From 1964 to 1967, Ealey played for Notre Dame High School under Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Ed Miller. In 1967, Notre Dame captured its first Ohio High School Athletic Association state championship.[1] Ealey was lightly recruited despite finishing his high school career with an undefeated record.[2] He was offered a football scholarship to Miami University with then-coach Bo Schembechler to be the team's third-string quarterback, but Ealey refused.[3] He was then offered a scholarship by University of Toledo Head Coach Frank Lauterbur with an opportunity to start as first-string quarterback., Ealey accepted the offer and would lead Toledo to 35 consecutive wins in a three-year span from 1969–1971. [3]

Ealey's greatest triumph with Toledo was helping the Toledo Rockets win the 1970 Tangerine Bowl. Ealey led the Rockets to three straight Top 20 finishes and three straight Tangerine Bowl victories during their run of unbeaten seasons, winning the MVP award in all three games.[4]

In 1971, Ealey's senior season, he was named First Team All-American by Football News, Second Team All-American by the United Press International, and Third Team All-American by the Associated Press. He also finished eighth in the voting for the 1971 Heisman Trophy,[5] which was awarded to Pat Sullivan of Auburn. Ealey finished his career as a three-time first team all-conference selection, and a three-time Back of the Year selection in the Mid-American Conference, leading the conference in passing yards in 1970 and 1971. His jersey is one of four retired jerseys in the history of Toledo football,[6] and was elected to the MAC Hall of Fame as a charter member in 1988.[7]

Despite his amateur accomplishments, Ealey is not a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He was passed by in the 1972 NFL Draft, after making it known that he only wanted to play quarterback at a time when African-American quarterbacks were not seriously considered in the NFL.

Chuck was one of the finest men I have known. Ealey would have been an NFL legend, had he gotten the shot. If you don't take my word on this guy, ask Lou Holtz, who considers him one of the best talents he ever coached against.

Why does this all matter? There still is a visceral anti-Catholic sentiment in this country. And it has really reared its head up in the last decade or two, with the troubles the church has faced, and with its falling membership.

I am surrounded by people that simulateously love these kids when they do good and will sing their praises but the moment they mess up on the field, its racial epithets for days. I really do not understand that. And it is not a fan-base in particular but people. Old habits die hard and they get passed down like bad habits.

I don't know if the talking heads are just talking up this game to promote it, but I can't help but think the point spread is going to be blown away on this game. Dantonio has been waiting for this moment since his first taste of Michigan arrogance.

Scoring records are going to be broken and Michigan is going to leave beaten like a drum.

It's too bad MSU isn't actually good and they very well might lose this game to Michigan. Straight face, no sarcasm.

MSU is really average on both sides of the ball and is capable of losing to just about any Power 5 team in the country.

(With that being said... it's Michigan sooooo.... 28 point blowout?)

I hope they pull an upset (vomit). Eliminates State from the playoffs and maybe it keeps Hoke around for another year (doubtful, but one can hope).

Concurrence: Achieved

MSU's defense is a bit down and UM's defense is good enough to keep it close.

Michigan's been killed by the fact they get absolutely no big plays. Maybe they're just "due" and good enough on defense to make a few big plays count.

Frankly, from ND's point of view even a close game here is a big shot in the arm for playoff hopes (common opponent with MSU and all).

Like many in-state rivalries, UM and MSU tend to spoil each other's best seasons. I'm going to hold my nose and root for UM in this game.

Oh man, I know logically it would be better for ND to hope Michigan wins, but the thought makes my blood curdle. It's like rooting for Hitler because the Soviets being eliminated helps the good guys.

This has been my feeling for a long time. I actually think Michigan will win this. I don't get why so many people have Michigan State so high.

Why? Hoke is a dead man walking, the program is in shambles. The defense isn't really all that good and their offense is hobbled. Gardner is hurt, Funchess isn't 100% and their RBs aren't very good either. MSU is going to stack the line and dare Gardner to throw it, which he will badly. The OLine is worse than last year when State held them to -29 rush yards.

Also its on the road, and Hokes record on the road is putrid. They just shit the bed.

Dantonio is salivating and its going to be bad. This will be the game that punches the final nail for Hoke.

I might give Michigan a rivals chance but with Gardner hurt I don't see how it's possible.

I don't think MSU is as pathetic as some seem to, but I think UofM has a shot. They had a bye week last week, so an extra week to prep. Gardner, hurt or not, is always in for 1 or 2 games a year where he plays absolutely out of his mind (we've gotten that performance before.) MSU is a step slower on D this year, and I don't think they have anybody who can cover Funchess. I don't know if it will happen. I hope it does. But there is a shot, and I think the extra week to prepare will help immensely.

As many of you know, there is a tradition between scUM and MSU during the week leading into the football game where students will camp out and sleep next to the Sparty Statue at MSU and the Block M in the Diag at Michigan. They do this because its kind of a game between the 2 student bodies to paint their rivals prized symbol with their own schools colors... Im not sure when the last time either has successfully pulled this off, let alone during game week, but The Spartans have struck another painful blow to the skunk bears.

PHOTO: Landmark 'M' on Michigan campus painted Spartan green - CBSSports.com

This is quite telling of the present state of scUM spirit. They are so down on their team, they cant even protect the one thing that is solely in their control. I mean, how hard is it when theirs 20k undergrads to protect a tiny little M on the ground, smack dab in the MIDDLE OF YOUR CAMPUS!

Believe me when I tell you, many recent alumuns from scUM that I am close friends with, are quite ashamed...

GO IRISH!!!
