Fun stuff. Who was Peppers second choice anyway? Rutgers?

I believe that is correct. The way the scUM fans sound, they are afraid to play Rutgers because they think he will defect to the other sideline and leave with the team. #ShadesoftheColdWar

I thought the offical explanation was he had gotten hurt in practice (practice????), and was receiving treatment.

Les Miles:

If there is in fact a new AD at the end of the season (as is almost guaranteed), Les Miles likely jumps to the top of the list, even at the age of 61. I'm going to have to disagree with our fearless leader on this one, I think Les is the top candidate. If Ward Manuel becomes the new AD, I think Michigan fans should prepare for the Mad Hatter to come north. "I'll never say no to Michigan", and I think that comes to fruition this time. Although if I were the AD, I'd like Les to answer for this: "I'll never forget what he said," Weems said. "He had that twinkle in his eye as he often does and said, 'Why would anybody leave LSU to go to Michigan?' I knew we had our guy."

http://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/college/lsu/2014/08/30/miles-mad...

Jeremy Pruitt

Given his age, pedigree, and ability to recruit, Pruitt's name could likely be at the top of any number of school's coaching searches. If Michigan wants to go into a new direction, this would be the guy they should go with. Has been wildly successful at Bama, Georgia, and now FSU.

Philip Montgomery

Art Briles too old? Then how about his offensive coordinator? He's considered "cutting edge" in the rise of the passing game, and he runs the fastest-paced offense in the country. Wildly popular name right now, and he likely makes the jump to head coach this off-season.

Gus Malzahn

He's only making 3.85 million at Auburn, and may consider being in a different state than Nick Saban a good thing. If Michigan comes calling offering between 5-7 million, he may jump. In my modest opinion, this may be a name to watch.

Jack Del Rio

Still one of the best defensive minds in Football, and still relatively young. Given Jim Mora Jr's success, a move to Michigan may appeal to Del Rio.

Other outside candidates

MARK HUDSPETH: Give the guy a chance! God damnit.

Michigan Power.

In 2007 Les Miles was the "Homerun" hire and we failed to get him. In 2011, Jim Harbaugh was the "Homerun" hire and we also failed to get him. We settled both times and have subsequently seen the worst 7 years of cumulative football in program history. Everything I'm seeing now is saying that the Harbaughs, Miles and Sumlin are "Pipe Dreams" to coach at Michigan. This baffles me because I have always been under the impression that Michigan was a powerful program and relative big deal in the world of college football. That notion needs to be evaluated now.

Michigan currently has a coach that has embarassed it's football to new heights. Michigan has an AD that is giving away tickets for Coke cans. We are outfitted by Adidas and most of the apparel is so god-awful ugly that it's immune to purchase. We cannot fill our stadium anymore and there are active protests of unrest on campus aimed at the dismal state of this program. Michigan Football has become the laughing stock of College Football.

Where is the Michigan Power? Why can Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Florida State, Alabama and Texas A&M all get "their guy" but Michigan cannot? Michigan SHOULD be able to get their guy also but the truth is, Michigan does NOT wield enough power to get the man they need to coach the program. We have to continue to settle for options B and C. Until Michigan can muster up the strength and power to command option A in a coaching search, things will continue to look bleak in Ann Arbor. Michigan should not have to "settle" for lesser options in this coaching search because we already have.....twice. It's time Michigan goes out and gets a sharp, established, eloquent, savvy and intelligent football coach who can represent this University both at the podium and on the sidelines. Michigan deserves far better than what we have been asked to settle for. If Michigan truly is a powerful University, then Michigan will go and get and Option A top flight football coach. They will not ask the fan base to settle again.

EDIT: Sorry...its just so funny to read over there right now!

It's amazing, isn't it?? It is like a flashback to December 2009 for me. Well, really, to December 2004. (Kelly was arguably the top coaching prospect on the market in 2009; Weis was a gamble after we got turned down by Urbie.) I just love seeing the shoe on the other foot for a change.

The funny thing is that they keep using us as an example of a team that "got their guy" in the coaching search. However, we suffered horribly and for FAR longer than they have before Brian Kelly got here. They literally need to double the length of time they have struggled with this round of problems to extend to the length of time we had to go through the Davie-Willingham-Weis suckfest of futility.

I might need to go to confession after reading that. Filled with such an evil satisfaction right now.

I'm trying to picture a Catholic Priest hearing that confession...

"This is all in regards to your feelings of joy over Michigan football's recent meltdown my son??... There is nothing to repent my child, your soul is clean, fuck Michigan... Go in peace."

Right, that's just what I was thinking. True, in 2009 we got our guy, but for YEARS before that we couldn't.

Gives me PTSD. I really hope its a while before we need to do another coaching search.

I still think Rich Rod would have had Michigan in a really good place right now. Fan base was unreasonable and now we can smile about it.

Oh yeah no doubt. After seeing what Hoke did with RR's team in 2011 and what RR has done since leaving Michigan....oh man. Cue the Nelson Muntz laugh.

Yeah I'm hoping BK hangs around til around win 104 at least.

Does anyone really care if Kelly broke Rockne's record? I wouldn't have cared if Lou had broken it. It's not like Rockne topped out at 105 and retired or was let go, he died. He probably would have had many more victories if it weren't for the plane crash. Records are made to be broken, and if Kelly keeps winning and wants to stay, let him pass it.

You are right, I agree. Huge difference between T.Willingham and Rich Rod.

In fact they are like bizarro versions of each other. T Willy had his players graduating and their conduct under control, but he was an utter failure on the football side of things. Rich Rod was run out of town not just because the on-field results were poor (although I believe that, unlike T Willy, Rich Rod would have built a good on-field product if given the time) but because the program was rife with conduct/academic issues. Or so those who defend Rich Rod's firing would have you believe ...

I thought Rich Rod took a hiatus from coaching to pursue a singing career??

Michigan regularly had one of the most explosive offenses in the nation under Rich Rod. Robinson probably would have won a Heisman had his coach not been fired prematurely. If Rodriguez had only been able to hire a decent DC, he'd probably still be coaching in Ann Arbor today.

Not sure I buy that. Plenty of scummy bullsh!t went down under Carr and Hoke as well, but they apparently got a pass because they're "Michigan Men", while Rich Rod was just an uncultured yokel who couldn't possibly comport himself as a WASPy Midwestern elitist should.

Oh yeah I think they deserve another decade of futility for penance. It's good for the soul to read this though because it makes you realize how far we've come in 5 years.
