An old friend's son who went to Fork Union for a prep year got a ride to U of M at quarterback. Never a top national choice, this kid was 6'4" with some mobility and a strong arm. He did really well his first year or so, and then in a spring game he really screwed the pooch. Not my words. Apparently whatever happened was enough to warrant the "Wrath of Carr!" Lloyd used to burry kids that pissed him off.

My friend went to him, hat in hand asking for a release. Up until that exact minute my friend was a big Lloyd fan. Lloyd basically told my friend to fuck himself, that he would never grant him a release. Period. It was a shame because my friend had strong connections at the University of Toledo, where his kid would have had a shot at being a real star. But Lloyd wouldn't release him. I have talked to a lot of people who just didn't get this. There was no reason to jam him, most coaches would have appreciated having the scholarship back.

So, the kid went D-2. And you have one more story to add to your collection of Lloyd Carr, King of the Ass-hats stories.

Lloyd Carr is a moron. He cost himself a shot at another title in 1999 by splitting time with Brady/Henson in the first half of that season. Brady was a 5th year senior, team captain that had started every game as a RS JR and went 10-3. He started the games off with Brady put took him out of games the first 6-7 games that season to split reps 50-50 with Henson. Michigan dropped a couple games doing that and Carr said enough with that shit, put Brady back full-time for good and Michigan didn't lose another game and finished 10-2.

Carr did all of this to keep a superstar phenom recruit that he promised the world to happy and keep him from leaving to play baseball. The kid wound up leaving eventually to...play baseball.

Lloyd Carr was a massive douche and idiot. Glad he got pushed out. Not glad they hired Rodriguez to replace him though. They should've hired Harbaugh back in 2007.

Do you think they can find a "Michigan Man" for the job, or will they need to look outside that mold? I've heard Les burned bridges that would prevent him from going to Ann Arbor so I don't know of any others.

they need to hire a winner. plain and simple. Michigan fans are sick of the losing to Ohio State and sick of being owned by Michigan State. At this point I don't think any fans care where the coach comes from, as long as he just wins. Winning cures all ills.

Bo Schembechler dominated the Big Ten in the 70's and 80's when it was mostly the big 2, little 8. Lloyd Carr took over in '95 and did a great job for the most part, but towards the end of his career he was flat out getting owned by Jim Tressel and that's why he was pushed out.

And aside from Hoke's great first year, every other Michigan football season since Carr's last has basically been a laughing stock or disaster.

I'm with you there. He's the guy that hired Hokey. I've also heard from many sources pizza boy is the reason Harbaugh turned down the job. Harbaugh is no fan of pizza boy. Pizza boy sits in coaches meetings, recruiting sales pitches, goes down on the field during games. He's Jerry Jones lite.

Too bad he's not half as smart as he thinks he is. He's great at creating excitement around the program, but I'm not sure it's always the right kind of excitement because it doesn't help the on-the-field product.

Exhibit A: Falling ticket sales among students
Exhibit B: Fireworks (seriously, Where's The Fire?)

the week after carr retired in the midst of the search for a new coach the SCUM AD Bill Martin went on holidays to florida without his cellphone. You couldn't make this shit up. total ineptitude.

Funny thing i also learnt that after SCUM's end of season banquet after Rich Rod's third year Rich Rod made a great speech preceeded by some speeches from the departing seniors deploring the upper brass to keep him on. Rich Rod had to go in and put his foot in it though by making everyone stand up and sing "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Gruben. This awkward inpromptu singalong was the final nail in his coffin.

A lot of Michigan players are tweeting pictures of their condition progress from the previous year. All I know is that our front 7 better come ready:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Well, dang. RT <a href="https://twitter.com/DG2seven">@DG2seven</a>: freshmen year at 248lbs 27% body fat now my sophomore year at 220lbs with only 9% body fat. <a href="http://t.co/oR7FLUltqk">pic.twitter.com/oR7FLUltqk</a></p>— Adam Kramer (@KegsnEggs) <a href="https://twitter.com/KegsnEggs/statuses/492495565096501249">July 25, 2014</a></blockquote>

Michigan can go suck a whole bag of dicks.

I remember when I first joined this site nearly 10 years ago, its motto was something along the lines of "mature and intelligent college football discussion". Thanks to Rack Em and TomHaverford for keeping at least a little bit of that spirit alive.

Tom's been cool, despite his weasel heritage.

You, who the hell are you? You can eat a bag of dicks.

Michigan threw out mature and intelligent with their childish stunt after the 2013 game.

I apologize if you got that impression from me. You should find my other posts in this thread. I really have no respect for um as an institution.

I'll engage in "mature and intelligent college football discussions" for any other school. Sorry if I mislead you.

Yeah, that "era of good feelings" went out the window as soon as Hoke started running his fat fucking mouth. Cannot wait to see him crying in his bucket of KFC this year*.

*Assuming your Big Ten refs don't save his ass per usual.

Another mature and intelligent post. I don't expect people here to like Michigan or say positive things about it. But you sound like you're capable of civilized discussion and not a refugee from the Paul Finebaum Show.

Whoa whoa whoa. I can handle you sticking up for your team/program... but this is an ND board, so shots will be fired.

However, to say that anyone here sounds like a "refugee from the Paul Finebaum Show" when the atrocity that is the MgoBlah blog and forum exists on behalf of scUM is the height of irony, and frankly quite hilarious.
