I agree with this. Hoke will stay at Michigan until he gets fired.
FIFY.
Urban has already put year 1 at OSU, he's got 4, maybe 5 years left tops. It's just what he does.
Urban is a changed man. At UF, he didn't take time off for family. He does now. He's gone at times in the off season. He didn't take 3 meals every day at UF. He does now, and that is a contract he signed with his daughter (in a pink sheet of paper). He was admitted to the hospital with chest pains after the 2009 CCG against 'Bama. He has learned not to take the losses as hard as he did in the past. In the year off, he had time to reconnect with other HCs that he respects, like Bob Stoops... and... (I forget the other coaches he talked to), and got a balance to the difference between his personal and coaching life.

Will it work out for him coaching for long times in the end? Time will tell. But I am cautiously optimistic about his longevity right now.

Or are these things you've heard?

You know he's called Urban Liar for a reason, right??

Seriously, ant. Take a step back and imagine how that comes across on a rival message board.

I've been following UFM since BP insiders said there was mutual interest. Numerous articles and videos later, I can say I know a thing or two about his life before and after his change.

I am an immigrant that didn't know about American football except for the OJ Simpson trial when I set foot into this country. Since then, I've fallen in love with the game of college football and its various fascinating facets. Enough to say I think it is the best freaking sport in the world...

Besides, this is a message board. I don't take anything anyone says too seriously, and neither should the readers of my posts take me too seriously. Ciao.

I have to back up ant on this one. Meyer has made a demonstrable effort to reevaluate his life/health/family/career and change how he operates. However, he made changes in favor of sustainable habits, which is not the same as changing his douchenozzle tendencies when it comes to recruiting--which still remains as douchey as ever.

I'll throw out another positive. He knew he lost the lockerroom at Florida and changed the attitude he brings to the program. Again, that has more to do with sustainability than anything else. He does run a much tighter ship than at Florida (where it was reportedly the wild west), that much is true.

Really? That's interesting. I think of football as a game you have to grow up here to appreciate. Do you mind saying where you are from? Is "ciao" a hint?

Is this a reversal for you? Didn't you used to say you didn't get why people thought he was a douchenozzle in recruiting? What changed your mind? Curious because I was silently with you when you used to say that it hadn't been demonstrated that Urban was a recruiting douchnozzle, but the mountains of evidence that have piled up in thread after thread on this site since he took the OSU job have convinced me that he is indeed the douchiest of douchnozzles. Maybe it was the same for you.

Thanks for the support, and yes, sustainability was critical. But just one point. This is the only place where I'm hearing about UFM losing the locker room at UF. And it came from one source. The jilted Florida reporter that UFM threw out of his press conferences... I forget his name. All articles were from that one author, or were referenced to that one author. I don't think it was something that happened at UF.

I've basically accepted that Urban Meyer was a "win at all costs" kinda guy, who would have sold his family to Kim Jong-un for wins if he could have. I've caught on to his act.

I had read all over that discipline was lost in his final two years at Florida. The post-Tebow years were tough, no leader and losses piling up took a toll on him. I can't imagine the stress.

I have been fortunate to have spent time with a number (probably 20-25) of big-time division 1 football coaches over the past 8-9 years. I can say unequivocally, Urban Meyer was the biggest a$$hole of the bunch. His ability to recruit and relate to 17-18 year olds astounds me.

ohio fans are classic when it comes to urbz and recruiting. Any time Michigan gets a guy they clearly were after or even a guy that isn't showing interest back in ohio, they claim "he didn't fit what urbz is looking for".

We heard this with Michael Ferns, Lawrence Marshall, Jabrill Peppers and Da'Shawn Hand. Hand wasn't impressed at all with what he saw at ohio. Despite popular opinions and stereotypes, it seems a lot of the top talent in recruiting are actually smart kids. Peppers has a 3.5 GPA and Hand is looking for schools with great football programs AND great programs in what he wants to major in.

Perhaps they read what good ol' Cardale Jones had to say about school in columbus-

Says the raven to the crow. OSU's graduation rates for football players are significantly better Michigan's. And let's not forget this gem from Jim Harbaugh:

“Michigan is a good school and I got a good education there,” he said, “but the athletic department has ways to get borderline guys in and, when they’re in, they steer them to courses in sports communications. They’re adulated when they’re playing, but when they get out, the people who adulated them won’t hire them.”

Though it seems Kinesiology and General Studies are the preferred majors these days.

Check your glass house before you reach for a stone.

How can anyone say Urban 'learned how to handle losses better????' Hey ant, let me be the first to tell you that you guys played a crap schedule and went undefeated last year. Ergo, no one had a clue how he'll handle a loss.

He's a phenomenal coach, but a lot of what you wrote was pure hogwash. He had a dream year with very little adversity. And you have no idea if yes home for dinner every night or if he's eating all 3 meals...just cause he says its so doesn't mean it's so. Seriously, when they lose their first game or 2, and there is actual pressure, THEN and only then will we start to learn if the man has changed. Cause I'll tell you right now...that contract is not conducive to winning at high level. It just isn't, and he'll see soon enough whenever they play a real schedule.

As I mentioned, I am repeating what I see and read in other articles. I've seen interviews of his wife mentioning the contract and articles where his daughter also brings up the contract. It seems like an important part of their lives. But you're right in that all the articles and videos can't tell you how he will take the speed bumps along the way. Which is why I included the sentence, and especially the bolded part in the statement below.
Will it work out for him coaching for long times in the end? Time will tell. But I am cautiously optimistic about his longevity right now.

I don't see where the glass house comes from. Nor did I mention graduation rates. I was pointing out how their players are morons. "We ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS". I would love to see some of the classes they took, because I'm pretty sure football players get special treatment there when it comes to grades to keep them eligible and "graduating" so they can boast about something.

Last time I checked, you don't get silver footballs or crystal footballs for having higher graduation rates. Apparently you get signs in the football office at ohio though, which is pretty funny. Michigan just hangs banners in theirs for titles.

And Jim Harbaugh can suck a dick. He is a gutless coward and wouldn't have opened his mouth if Bo was alive when he said that. He waited until after he died to throw his program under the bus.

Well, they are STUDENT-athletes. High graduation rates should be a source of pride.

Don't you ever come on this board talking about bo! Ever! That man was a gutless coward and a Catholic-hating bigot! The fact that michigan continues to hold this man on a pedestal is disgusting!

(Notice how I refuse to capitalize 'michigan' or 'bo'? It might not be much but I lack any respect for either.)

And what does that make you? A kind man?

I'm Catholic and I'm pretty much used to the fact that nearly everyone in A2 doesn't like Catholics. Doesn't stop me from living here and loving it and not giving a damn what others think about me or my religion. I look at is us against the world.

And you mention Michigan holding Bo up on a pedestal. He is getting an 8ft statue at the Schembechler Hall. First person in the history of Ann Arbor to have a statue.

I don't know where you get he was anti-Catholic from though. I've never heard of anything like that.

And haha you used the term Student-Athlete. Because it IS all about the student athlete. (I'm sure maybe one other person on this board may know what show I am referencing)

I'm glad you agreed to the term student-athlete. Because one of the players being recruited by both schools (who will also probably end up at TSUN), Hand, wanted to study Civil Engineering. He was steered towards something like sports management or one of the BS majors that scUM has. You see, we have 8 athletes on our football team that are studying Engineering. None in your team because they are steered towards BS majors that have no future. Fact of the matter is, our atheletes are made to study harder by the management. Yours don't. Go suck on that, scUMmer!

edit: And they beat your "student"-atheletes on the field every year too... ;)

I stopped reading after you said Hand will end up at Michigan. That means Michigan would be the first team in the history of Rivals to land #1 and #2 overall. This is good.

And if you think I am agreeing with the term student athlete.....uh no. Not at all. That was a joke from a sports talk show in GR. That term couldn't be more fraudulent. Go to SEC land and see how these "student-athletes" are.

1) Thanks for the neg reps! Bigots aren't cool in my book so I guess I am mad!
2) What does this have to do with me? It has everything to do with bo being a bigot and michigan steering student-athletes into mickey mouse majors (i.e. kinesiology).
3) I know plenty of michigan alums who are Catholic. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be embarrassed of um holding bo in such high regard. Frankly, it is embarrassing. If Knute Rockne had been a KKK member, I would be very ashamed. See my point?
4) And your point about bo getting the first statute in ann arbor makes my point. He was a man of poor moral fiber who is being honored. But he won a lot of football games so who cares!
5) You have no business being on this board if you don't believe graduation rates, degree value, and 'real' majors have a place in a college football discussion.

That's beside the point. Schools with integrity don't stoop to what some schools in the SEC do!

As a structural engineer, the thought of Hand trying to make it in civil engineering at a school like Michigan that has a very strong program is absolutely hilarious. For students with legitimate aptitude in math/science/engineering the 20-40 hours a week of problem sets and free form exams with 3 questions where you're sitting at a base F if you don't know how to solve one is daunting in its own right... then imagine tacking all of the football practice time on top of that... and then imagine the kid has nowhere near the college level aptitude of his average student. I don't think he would make it a week in engineering much less a semester. So I don't really see the issue with Michigan saying "look, how about this manageable major... and then you can take some free electives in LEGOS or block stacking to scratch your civil engineering itch. I know, LEGOS 101 is a bit more rigorous than general studies... but we believe in you Da'Shawn."
