Not sure what to believe at this point. Sounds like OSU is going to put forth the effort to make this woman look crazy, maybe she is, and have this all go away. Urban is now saying he spoke incorrectly at media and he did take action on this. That along with the smear campaign against the woman, it looks like they'll try to position it as, "Well, we were made aware of it, but the allegations against Zach were fake, she's bat shit crazy, so there was nothing else to do.

Because that's how Title IX investigations work.

Again, I'm coming into this cold. But it's plausible. That's why these things should be handled by police, DAs, judges, and juries. Not unaccountable university administrators who care more about bad publicity than due process of law.

Smith was fired immediately after his wife obtained a protective order against him. There is no indication there was any sort of Title IX investigation.

Scenario D: Urban almost certainly heard from his own wife who spoke with the victim directly and who very likely saw the pictures of the physical aftermath of the abuse (because she references them in one of her text messages).

I would put the odds of Meyer being at least somewhat aware of the 2015 abuse in the 90% range. I would also put the odds of him having seen, or being aware of the existence of, the pictures at around 65%. Meyer then apparently didn't report and only asked the alleged abuser directly, who said "Nah bro."

Again, this isn't a legal conversation, except for how much OSU needs to pay him if they can't make this a contract violation. It's a publicity thing.

Would be a good time for OSU to reach out to some potential replacements. May be a factor in how this turns out.

The Urban press release and the interview by Zach Smith screams coordinated PR move organized by their lawyers or them.

Smith had no good reason to talk to the media, and the original plan is that he wouldn't until he was in court with his ex. So what changed? What was he offered or ordered?

Regardless, both moves have forced the hand of Gene Smith. He is going to have to address this publicly.

Not being intimate with U.S. law but trying to be objective... in a "reasonable person" sort of way... I think Gene Smith will ultimately be the "fall guy" in all of this. Too many similar issues on his watch. If CUM did indeed report to those higher up, I can't see how he doesn't come out of this virtually unscathed and IF recent statements are true, that's how it should play out. Perhaps not a popular opinion but this whole thing stinks and the waters have been conveniently or intentionally muddied.

I hope I would hold the same opinion (under similar circumstances) for any Coach regardless of college/university affiliation. If there is evidence to the contrary, I will gladly eat crow. Cheers and Go Irish!

Very much feels like we're in the buyout-negotiation phase of this. Coordinated statements by Urban and the assistant that point the finger at Gene Smith and protect Urban's contract. On a Friday afternoon to win the weekend news cycle.
Urban's lawyers and PR folks are smart.

I figured that this was the first of like three ststaements from people involved that would all slowly soften the blow of OSU’s eventual decision to bring Urban back.

His statement, then there would be one from their AD about how he got the report and then contacted the police, and then finally a statement from the university about how both Urbs and the AD passed it up the chain and then to the police, and that the investigation finds the issue to be shortcoming from the accused and law enforcement.

Your interpretation makes sense though. It’s probably more plausible at this point that Urban is trying to save his job, or at least protecting his cash, by putting it on the AD.

Honest question... because I know Employment Law is different in the U.S.

In this particular scenario, and assuming CUM did report Zach's conduct to "higher ups", who might be responsible for the termination of Zach?

I think that at least some States have a "Duty to Accommodate" condition of employment and since it appears that alcohol is a pretty consistent variable in all of this (and apparently known) would CUM be able to make that call unilaterally?

Obviously, the domestic violence should be the most important consideration and likely OSU sees a "Damage to Brand", but by all accounts it would appear that alcoholism was fairly well known going back to the Florida days.

Really looks like OSU could be in a heap of litigation here.

Cheers and Go Irish!

This ship could really be going down. Pressure is mounting with Urban’s statement and Zach’s interview.

If Urban followed protocol, pOSU can’t fire him without a huge huge buyout.

The fact that Gene Smith would’ve known combined with the wrestling debacle means he could easily be fired as well

those text messages from Zach - Courtney seem pretty damning.

The guy goes on national tv and says he never touched her, yet he was arrested in 2009 for beating her ass when she was pregnant, and in those texts looks like he apologized to her for smacking her up on their vacation and a few months later again.

Dude is full of you know what. Note how he never really denies hitting her- he just denies doing anything "illegal" in that interview.

Just saw where Paul Finebaun tweeted Saban would be interested in the OSU job... don’t know if it’s true or not... I do t have a tweet so I wouldn’t be able to find it to post.

of course it's not true. His "interest" in the Ohio State job would be to use them to extract even more money out of Alabama.

Not really. Saban likely wipes his ass with C-notes. Just got a raise and damn near runs the State

This is nothing more than click bait from a washed up Finebuam.

Dude would have zero voice if not for Alabama foosball.

Saban always does this though. Any time there's a big job open his agent uses the media to float rumors that Saban is interested and then Alabama gives him a fat pay raise.

Last time Texas was open all kinds of rumors that Nick was going to Texas for a $120,000,000 deal and then Alabama re-upped Nick for even more money.

It's just kinda what he does.

Come on guys... not pretending to be the moral compass, but we should be better than this. She was/is a victim of domestic violence and by most accounts, was pretty oppressed by people in trust. Maybe my opinion only but not cool... particularly on a forum representing ND. Sorry to be a downer but...

At this point, I'm sure it's like throwing a hotdog down a hallway, but let's not degrade the personal appearances of individuals. "Eh that pic is from 2012, she was a mother of 2 or 3 at that point. I'm sure she got after it in college though....."

That's personal appearance/body shaming. You're better than that.

I wasn't shaming her at all. She's a very pretty lady. I was just disagreeing with Koon's post about her looking like she's crazy in bed.

Jokes aside I'll agree with Green. Whether or not you would deign to grace the domestic abuse victim with your dick is generally not a great discussion to have, compliment meant or no. I'm aware the original post was meant to be a shock joke (or at least I hope it was), but it was a bit over the line for me too. A page ago I was reading about her getting choked out with her daughter in the room.
