Love this stat:
80 teams played in bowl games last season. Only one failed to score.

Not football related, but Thad Matta is out as BBall coach. Wow.
Thad Matta out as Ohio State basketball coach after 13 seasons | cleveland.com
For some reason I always read OSU board for crootin reasons and they all wanted him gone.
Hired Chris Holtmann from Butler. 8 years, $3 million per
They have an AD who knows WTF he is doing...we don't.
Where their AD DIDN'T know WTF he was doing was waiting this long and letting Archie Miller go to IU. The job was his and he waited at Dayton for it.
...and Holtman over Chris Mack???
Stick to complaining about football.

Well, we'll be able to compare their respective trajectories. One thing we know if that if Holtmann fails, he'll be let go. Our AD by contrast has yet to fire any coach that he hired, regardless of how unsuccessful they are. He can't admit failure; he is a lawyer working in sports administration who doesn't know what he is doing.

...he said, ignoring how long the AD he is praising held on to a declining Thad Motta.
Thad Matta had a .733 winning % at OSU, he'd been to two final fours, etc. He'd earned a great deal of deference.
Lol and Brian Kelly's been to a natty and a NY6 bowl, and has a similar winning %.
No deference there, though. Even in a sport much less forgiving than basketball!

.73 is higher than .65...lots of losses that become wins. I'd say that getting to a final four is the equivalent of winning a NY6 bowl, not just getting there (after all 12 teams get to one but only 6 win) and then getting demolished both times.
On the other hand, if what is expected of OSU basketball is now going to be what is expected of ND football then I'm not sure what anybody is doing here. I'm not sure why we're building Trump stadium. I'm not sure why we're adding to the Gug. Etc. We're just another program with the odd good year, in those circumstances.
Oh, and there's one other difference: Matta was fired. Kelly's still our coach. Lol.

Well this just proves that you are simply trolling us. There is no way anybody can see this as a positive for OSU. Eight years is ridiculous for a guy that hasn't proven himself at this level yet.
You're the one that brought up the comparison in the first place haha... first you wanted to use it as a measuring stick for an ND football coaching situation (LOL), but now that I've shown you how ridiculous it is, you're trying to get on an even higher horse.
I'm starting to get the feeling that even if BK won a national championship, you'd be the ND "fan" that says "he was just lucky it was a down-year in football! He's still small-time! Harrumph, lemmings thinking we won something! Fullbacks."
I brought up the comparison because the standards OSU BB holds itself to should be the minimum sorts of standards ND FB holds itself to. But I conceded that even if we think Matta and BK have comparable resumes (I don't) it still doesn't justify keeping BK, because they are the minimum standards. I'd say I won the argument, so yes, I'm on a horse.
Define proven himself and this level.
OSU is a better job because it's more money but Butler Basketball is on the same exact level as OSU Basketball and Holtmann proved himself at Butler.
Holtmann took over a Butler program that had been coached by an extremely successful coach and had had tournament success - even going to the final four in two consecutive years. Holtmann never achieved the same level of success as Stevens. His overall record is slightly worse and he never achieved the same level of tournament success. Ultimately he took over a program that was at an extremely high level and, sorta maintained it, but not quite.
Now he is taking over a program that is not in a good place and he will have to build it - which he did a nice job of at Gardner Webb, so we will see if he can do it at the big boy level.
Ultimately, my comment is that he hasn't proven himself to warrant an eight year contract. He may very well deserve that eventually, but to me he hasn't done enough for that contract right out of the gate.
Holtmann took over a 14-17 program from Brandon Miller. His three years:
23-11 - 2nd Round NCAA
22-11 - 2nd Round NCAA
25-9 - Sweet Sixteen
He's qualified for the OSU job. Also, the Big East is the "big boy level". More importantly, Butler and OSU are only 1 tier down from the Penthouse Programs like UNC, KU & UK. Whether or not you like the 8 year contract, take that up with his agent and ND Alum, Gene Smith. Every person is worth what they can negotiate. Just because something is out of the ordinary doesn't make it a bad deal. Only time can answer that.
