Bro, I love ND to my core, but if Michigan asked me to visit for $100k and told me I had to take a dump on Rockne's grave first...I think Knute would understand coming from a poor background. You better believe my first stop once I get back is the bookstore to buy ND merch with that scUM $$$.

I ain't proud, but the point is imagine a high schooler getting offered that kind of cash and they're not even as invested as a big fan. Pretty hard to turn that down.
Lou Holtz went to UM signing day event. And kissed Harbaugh and UM's butt the whole time.

But yeah, I'm supposed to be mad at an 18 year old kid for getting his money when a bunch of people with more money than sense are giving it away. Makes sense.

You can call bullshit all you want, but naivete is basically how ND has put themselves behind the biggest boys of CFB for the last 30 years.
You really believe that someone was willing to put up 100 grand for a kid to just visit without getting any guarantees out of him?

Whats the total 2 million a year was Nico's deal correct?
I would think the total package now is less but who the hell knows.
100,000 of 2 million is 5%. So they giving him a bonus just to visit?
I don't make enough money to be a booster fo sho.

didnt loy just say that he isnt even talking to the staff anymore?
ISD said they don't consider him in the class & don't expect him to be. The staff probably has already moved on but can't speak on a kid before signing day so until he announces, he'll still be listed as a commit.

One thing to keep in mind is that Jimmy Rane, who is Auburn’s wealthiest booster, is worth north of $1B. $100K is a drop in the bucket for him. However, I don’t know that the $100K per visit is accurate nor do we know if there are no strings attached. It does sound insane though!

How do schools get away with paying high schoolers? I can’t imagine that is legal by the NCAA? Not that they would ever try to enforce it, but that doesn’t seem to be within the spirit of their NIL rules.

You can pay anyone at any time. That's essentially what is being argued in court right now.

The plaintiffs (students, agents, etc) want no cap on what students can earn through NIL. The NCAA knows they'll lose if they fight that, so they're trying to cap what schools can pay (through NIL).

The courts have basically been against putting non-collectively bargained limits on what anyone can earn. That case is being worked out, but here we are.

I'm not trying to insult you, but I don't think you understand what college football means to some people.

Not everyone is getting 6 figures to visit. But a 5 star QB (or very close to 5 star) from the south sure af is.

I get that, but how does that apply to high schoolers who aren’t even enrolled at a college yet?

$100k might be a drop in a bucket but you probably don't accumulate that kind of wealth wasting money. If I had to guess, any $100k bonus payment would be contingent on actually attending Auburn.

This stuff is insane though, I really hope it settles down after enough donors/collectives get burned.

I absolutely understand what football means to people, I’m not insulted by you saying that but I still don’t believe someone is paying a 18 year old kid 100 grand not strings attached. Has to be more to it than that

I think it depends on the state. In Texas, high school kids can’t get NIL. In Missouri, high school kids can get NIL if they’re committed to a Missouri school. Pretty sure it’s why Ewars left high school early for his year sabbatical at OSU. Wanted to get paid.

I'm not even trying to say that he absolutely is getting $100k for every visit to the same school. But, that amount to visit at least once is very likely.

We're talking about Auburn boosters. These people have more money than sense and demonstrating they're tall hog at the trough is imperative to them.

At this point I don’t think he’s coming to ND. So I hope he keeps taking visits to Auburn collecting multiple bags and then goes to Ole Piss.

Where would UT be without Nico I right now?

He signed for a record bag and there is a good case to be made that the money was well worth it.

Riley Leonard says hi.
Yep Matt mentioned Riley Leonard, who was not a freshman when he left Duke but I believe a junior? Matt seemed to be saying it's easier for freshmen to transfer here, which may be true on paper since they're not too deep in a major with credits that won't transfer, but it's not something we've seen happen more than once or twice.

Personally I think most kids, once they get on campus at an SEC school or really anyplace other than a small handful of comparably-elite academic institutions, are lost to us until they have a degree in hand and we no longer worry about their ability to graduate on time. The academic path is just so much different/easier at those schools. In other words, Deuce isn't gonna transfer to Notre Dame in 18 months. If he doesn't like Auburn after a year, he'll just go to Ole Miss or someplace.

And the other thing is, they're doing this at the express instruction of the coaching staff, in exchange for super duper VIP access to the program that is still there even if the player ends up heading elsewhere. The staff sells program access in exchange for a shot at a (very special) player.

It has been reported by multiple recruits over the past couple years that many of the top SEC schools are paying kids just to take OVs.
Getting Deuce on campus was the hardest part, they knew they could then present him with an NIL package that he couldn't turn down once he got on campus. If the 100k thing is true, it's the upfront cost they invested to be able to present him their offer.
He told the staff going into the visit that he was still 100% commited but he couldn't turn down that kind of money just to visit. Obviously that 100k investment paid off for Auburn. (Again if that number is true)
