He could be the worst coach on the planet. But he will sell the idea of playing for him at Colorado and he will get a few kids to follow him. I just hope none of them are kids that would otherwise come to ND.

College football is at a point where we should be legit a little worried about Colorado poaching ND recruits. Amazing!!

I was definitely naive in thinking there wouldn’t be much/any crossover between ND recruits and guys willing to commit to Deion.

I think we’re probably overdue for a Deion thread but…

I think the Sean Lewis hire says a lot. If Colorado just hired Deion and then he brought his Jackson St crew then whatever. Going out and making that type of hire shows a pretty clear backing of Deion’s plan and commitment ($). I’m speaking with little to no knowledge but I assume the university could stand to put significantly more behind their football program than they have recently.

It is pretty interesting how this is going down. Here is what the Colorado AD said yesterday:
We don't have the money yet, but I know we'll have it so I'm not worried about that piece," said George when asked about Sanders's contract. Deion Sanders' contract with Colorado is worth $29.5 million over 5 years — the highest-paid coach in school history. AD Rick George says they don't have the money just yet.

Yeah looks like some are dismissing Deon here but the national media sure isn’t. He’s going to run the hyper speed offense and recruit speed to execute it. He just told his inherited roster to hit the portal, which will make it super easy to sell playing time to recruits.

I’m thinking Deon is going to be a major story going forward

Rumors of Mike Zimmer coming in as his DC as well.

Sean's a hell of a coach, and anyone who doesn't think he is doesn't know anything about the job he did at Kent State.

My brother lives close and has already said he’s buying season tickets.

I don’t really see how anyone can think Deion is going to be a complete flop. Colorado is willing to spend money, he’s already shown an ability to punch way above his weight class in recruiting, NIL and transfer portal will make it possible to reshape a roster at light speed, and he’s going to bring in good assistant coaches to do the heavy lifting for the X’s and O’s. Plus the PAC12 blows and is about to be watered down even further.

Pretty straight forward actually. Think he's going to flop his first year and does not have the mindframe to handle adversity well.

Deion will have as much an issue acquiring enough talented players as turning down talented players. That is his biggest challenge. Who he says yes and no to. Because plenty of guys getting kicked off the team, not seeing the ball enough, wanting NIL etc are gonna say “well I’ll just play for Deion”

Is he gonna have the restraint to say the hell you will when the alternative is a 3 star from Denver that he develops over time.

All you people certain of Deion must've also been certain of crypto. Both seem like mildly interesting experiments that could go up in smoke or result in fire but I'm hedging when I point out the "fire" potential.

Deion hasn't shown me enough to be certain of anything. He won't get more talent than the rest of the PAC 12 so I'm less certain of him being able to outcoach those with more talent.

Either you must get more talent or you must outcoach the opponent. I'm not convinced he can do either. Maybe he can take Colorado to consistently above .500

What is "success" for Deion?

I think to call HBCU players "Borderline High School players" is not right. Deion did a lot of work with corporate sponsorship and really thought outside the box to get the JSU program turned around. He put forth effort and strategy.

I am sure he will want to have CU in a Top 25 program within a few years. Obviously his stated aim is to bring back a Natty to CU but if he gets them in the Top 25 that would be a major turn around and he will be likely a candidate for a major SEC Program or FSU. Auburn should have hired him.

Doesn’t matter if he’s a success for about 3 years. He will still be able to recruit

Why does everyone think he is going to be a crazy good recruiter? He last played in the NFL in 2005, a lot of these kids won't have any memory or him. Maybe their uncles will be telling them to go play with Sanders?

He landed the #1 player in the country and a borderline 5 star so it’s not complete projection.

This stuff all looks good on paper until he’s 4-8 year one and 7-5 year two and loses all positivity + momentum.

I would argue his success doesn't matter for exactly 3/4 of a year. If his first year at Colorado is abysmal, kids will stop listening to the schtick. You must win if your pitch is going to resonate.

I think he’ll land several high profile recruits because their parents know about Deion. Then they’ll transfer after a year.

This is not a dumb move by either. Colorado wants an instant turn around and exposure and now they have it. Great timing as the PAC 12 will be down soon with USC and UCLA gone. With Deion they can recruit the west and still be strong in the plains, too.

For Deion is a legit P5 program with a beautiful facilities and great campus. A program that previously won a Natty. Great turnaround story.

Regardless of what happens to Edwards, please don't think Deion and Colorado won't work out. Colorado has a collective. Deion is way smarter than people have ever given him credit for. He also negotiated a good staffing budget too.

That Colorado AD is a smart guy too.

Nick Saban is just thankful Auburn didn't hire Deion but went with Freeze.
Ol' Nick isn't afraid of Sanders. If anything, it might get his competitive juices flowing a little stronger.

Zimmer was at JSU for those who don't know.
As an analyst. He could be about to become a DC again at age 66 and hasn't coached in college since Weber State in the 80s. I don't doubt his X and O ability at all. I have a ton of respect for him as a coach. Is he willing to recruit at the level that they're about to take it to?

Jackson State to have gotten these four and five star kids to come down there is being overlooked and that is kind of interesting. Their facilities were garbage when Deion got there and Jackson, MS makes South Bend look like Ibiza.

They’ve had two winning seasons since 2005 and one of those was a 4-2 COVID year. I think the school/fanbase would be thrilled with 7-5 in year two. However, I agree it would be hard to sell legit momentum to recruits as a 7-5 PAC program regardless of how down they’ve been. It will be fascinating to follow.
