Good Lord. Del is just so bad at his job. We’re supposed to have confidence that this staff will go out and land multiple receivers that aren’t just warm bodies?

I’m not going to hold my breath.

I'd imagine we will be seeing some offers go out to WRs tonight.

I'm hoping this has already happened and the talking heads are sitting on it to not ruin their moment.

The coaches couldn't possibly be blind sided by this if they have been reading IE.

They had been reaching out to guys for a while and struck out. There might be some action before the next signing day but it seems like a longshot. It's much more likely they are portal shopping.

Firing Del is step one in improving WR recruiting.

Yup. So he literally just thought it was funny/fun to lie to Notre Dame coaches for a month that he was "all in" and would be signing with ND today.

The alternative -- which is extremely plausible, because Harbaugh has done it before -- is that the Michigan coaches instructed him to do this in order to make a splash on signing day.

A true Michigan man.

Seriously I wonder if this is something their staff requests for kids to do just to scorn ND. Either way, it's classy.

And I am not one to try to talk about kids in a negative light but good grief does it sound like this was a recruitment filled with straight up lies and deceit that we haven't seen since McGregor which is what makes me beg the question above.

And Del seems to be well liked on the staff but clearly something is up with the way he handles recruiting because he has been absolutely burnt multiple times and it has to be addressed.

A mod needs to move his meatchicken signed thread out of the '22 verbal/signee section. It's cluttering up the recruits we're concerned about!

Yes. It'd be weird for a kid from Louisiana to be so gratuitously vicious toward ND without some external coaching or motivation. This smells like Harbaugh. Should allow us to focus our on hatred on a deserving institution instead of the Walker family.

There will be many more head-to-head battles with Michigan. Only this time MFMF will be there from the beginning.

Whatever -- Michigan is a dogshit program and will return to being a dogshit program after Georgia stomps their miracle season.

Not gonna lose sleep over UM playing games with our lowest rated recruit outside of Turbofoot.

You don't think it's a character flaw to bold face lie to people? Really? This is one of the basic tenets of human existence throughout every culture on the planet.

We have completely jumped the shark in how we bend over backwards to excuse behavior that wouldn't be tolerated by elementary school children.

I'm not saying this as some crotchety old guy that thinks kids owe fans/schools/coaches a damn thing. I'm coming at this as someone who currently coaches and is intimately familiar with the recruiting process. My school puts a half dozen players in D1 every year. I currently coach two Team USA players. We have 5-star basketball players at my school too. And we play in a conference that is as loaded as any in the country except that California football factory league.

I would be absolutely mortified if one of my players conducted themselves how Walker did. There is nothing wrong with flipping your commitment, listening to other schools while committed, etc. However, there is proper way to handle your business. Being a liar -- either because you don't have the stomach to be honest, or as part of a charade to make a splash and "surprise" people -- is not it. At best, it is immaturity. At best.

He has been telling ND all the way through today that he is all in and would be signing tomorrow. He's been telling the exact same thing to Michigan. It does not matter which people he is lying to... this is not how human beings are supposed to behave, period.

If you want an example from just this year, Devin Moore is a perfect example. Verballed to ND -> kept listening to other schools -> decommitted -> will make a final decision. Was respectful to all parties the entire time, very little to be criticized unless you want to nitpick.

Last thing I'll say -- I could go into detail on the advice we give our players on how to handle recruiting and commitments, but suffice to say I have seen many verbal commitments switched over many years and have never seen a player on any of our teams conduct themselves even close to this. I think that I have very reasonable expectations on conduct, and I think it speaks to some larger cultural problems in society that people are completely desensitized to deceit/disrespect/selfishness. I get it, because college football coaches are the kings of that kind of behavior and modeling it for these kids, but it's still jarring.

I love all of this. Too many weak-minded people thing "kids are just being kids".

Have a little self-respect and think about your future self. Think about what your decisions do to others. I despise Michigan but even if Walker signs, i won't be happy he played them until the end. I'll be more upset if he plays us to the end. Just a really bad move.

How as a parent can you allow your teenager that you are supposed to be raising with standards, morals and not lot lying to people handle themselves in this manor?

Some shitty parenting.

Outside of WR #s, Not tripping over a recruit ranked in the 500s whose decommitment actually increased NDs average star ranking. The junior high antics personify Michigan’s douchebag coach. I am glad to not have someone in the ND program that would lie to NDs coaches like that.

We took Burnham from Michigan early and they got Walker late. I’ll make that trade 10 out of 10 times.

I think many people make mistakes in dealing with these sort of situations, I know that I have in the past in ways that I regret (in terms of professional opportunities). It can certainly be awkward to discuss it with people. That said, we can all recognize a standard of conduct as the proper standard even if we, or most people, fail to live up to it. First, lying is bad; second; there is a difference between being genuinely conflicted about something (e.g., should I take this new job) and acting as though you are when you are not, in a way that causes problems for other people.
