This is from a Michigan Recruiting Insider:
Every week TMI’s Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich come together for a podcast called ‘The Michigan Recruiting Insider.’ Each show offers a deep dive into Michigan football and basketball recruiting, with unmatched insight and intel on the Wolverines targets and recruiting strategies. In the excerpt below Sam explains how Michigan was able to flip Walker from Notre Dame.
Sam Webb: “… as you guys know, I made it down here to Louisiana and made it over to Ponchatoula. (Amorion Walker) said a couple of weeks ago, 'look, I'm ready to go to Michigan.' I think that he had been leaning that way for some time. I think he had been leaning that way since the Under the Lights game (vs Washington). People want to know what it was that maybe put Michigan over the top with Amorion Walker. I know there's some speculation in Notre Dame circles that hey, 'it was NIL.' Notre Dame came strong with NIL. I don't think that that was the distinguishing characteristic for Amorion with Michigan. I think it was his connection with the coaching staff. Both programs have rich tradition, picturesque campuses, iconic stadiums, and opportunities to play early. But I think he was closer to Michigan's staff, and I've been making this point for some time.”
The rest of the article talks about how all the Michigan coaches, including Harbaugh, talked with him every day yet Del was the only one recruiting him hard and BK talked with him “once every blue moon”. Michigan out recruited ND, nothing to do with NIL money. And Walker was ready to go to Michigan a couple of weeks ago so him and his parents telling ND he is still committed the day before was pure BS.
