I see in the OP that he will likely take a mission. Is that still the plan?

Lock Clark Lea into a lifetime contract, please. He's the differentiator.

Very nice. So now we have the Big Kahuna and the Big Kahanu. I like it.

Per his interview with Mike Singer, he said the same thing. Will enroll for 1 year and leave for 2.

What's the concern?

To have him come for 1 year and assume he even plays, he will take up a scholarship spot and be training with the team. Then he leaves for two years to a 3rd world country losing any body mass or strength he achieved the first year with little to no chance he can maintain said gains. the dude will be eating minimal amounts of sustenance food. There wont be protein shakes, or training tables where he is going :)

Then after all that he has to come back, and redo everything. Relearn the playbook, re bulk up.... IDK seems to me to be 1 step forward two steps back. Especially when trying to keep up roster depth and physicality need to compete with elite teams.

Now after he returns from 2 years away from his family in Hawaii, he has to return to South Bend for the remainder of his availability. Its easy for me to see Chris Badger in this as its already happened.

What scholarship spot? There is no 85 limit next year. This is a no risk proposition for the staff. Take him, get him on campus and in the program, if he leaves then so be it. Just helps you get below 85 for the 22' season easier.

That read more rude that I intended, sorry Cack.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just don't see why we'd worry about spots when the luxury of 2021 is their are no spots to be worried about.

This is why we are likely to push the limit on players in this class to larger numbers than previously expected. It's a great job by the staff to push the envelop within the rules.

Either Kahanu balls out and stays because he's contributing at an elite college program at which point we win. Or, he's a ST's guy that likes to hit people and then leaves for his mission which opens up the scholarship when 85 matters. I don't see downside here. Worst case scenario we got a Free Agent for 1 year that likes to hit people.

Hard to get excited about a kid taking a mission who may or may not return to Notre Dame or not be the same player after he does return.

I didn’t take it as rude. I know you are always measured and thoughtful. I know it’s not a popular opinion but I didn’t like it when Badger did it and still don’t.

Regardless of the mission ... does anyone else not see a high D1 linebacker when they watch his film? Don’t mean to shit on the kid too much but he moves more like a defensive end in space. Would have loved to have seen some senior highlights to see if there was a big improvement over the last 12 months.

Not saying he is a throw away recruit either, but agreed the mission trip after 1 year is bizarre. Oh well

Just gonna throw it out there that BYU lives off these kids taking a 2 year mission then returning as 24-25 year old seniors.
