Free story up from Freeman on Buchner

"I was talking to Deion (Colzie) and Donte (Thornton)," said Buchner. "A lot of schools they are coming down to are Notre Dame, some SEC schools and I know Donte is big with Oregon and Arizona State. You can choose to play football at a school or choose to do both - academics and football at a place like Notre Dame.

So, is he back to his old motion? He does seem to have a low release point (I really don’t care as long as it’s effective).

FWIW, that video is from the QB Collective camp that was a month ago. So, the clip above from Freeman is more recent than this video.

I firmly believe that the QB coaching he's been receiving lately has completely ruined his motion with this "compact" nonsense. Just let him rip it side arm. I watch Mahomes in the NFL throw from all kinds of crazy arm angles and no one is over-coaching him to be "compact".

Buchner's game film and camp stuff pre-Kelly is just so much more fluid and natural. Hopefully there is a way to unring the bell.

Not too great, were those his WRs? They really seemed to not do him any favors out there. I’m not too worried about him due to all the highlights of him ripping it up last year. I will say I’m not quite as certain now as before. At the end of the day I am THRILLED to have this young man Irish!

Is TB working with Taylor Kelly? Didn't T. Kelly also "work" with Brandon Wimbush after 2017 and leading into 2018? And wasn't that because of TK's connection at ASU with Chip Long? Maybe I'm making these connections up, but someone else may remember more clearly than me.

Yeah, he's currently working with Taylor Kelly. I don't know if he worked with Wimbush but I wouldn't doubt it. Chip Long has definitely been referring QBs there.

I love the media manipulation. You compare QB1s 10 best throws against QB2s 10 worst throws and then say QB1 is better than QB2......horse shit

Pretty sure it was George Witfield.

I thought his throws looked good.

He doesn't drive off his back foot (which bothers me from my baseball background) but I think that's now commonly taught footwork.

I was one of the first people to freak out about his Elite 11 performance when watching it live, but now I really don't mind what he is trying to do. It very much is not the "classic" motion, but if you watch a lot of the best QBs now, they are doing something similar. The classic motion was great for accuracy which was needed with all of those precise timing routes. But now with all the RPOs, you need a quick motion that can also provide power to get the ball to the receiver before the defender can get there and also to push the ball down the field. It also helps that the new motion seems to be more adaptable to throwing on the run instead of having to reset the hips. Yes, he looked really bad at the Elite 11, but I think that was a specific issue and not an issue with the concept overall.

FYI

Buchner interview with Eric Hansen and Tyler James on the latest ND Insider "Pod of Gold" podcast on Tuesday. About 20 mins in length. All I can say is, holy smokes is he well spoken and intelligent. I was already on the hype train, but wow.

ND is darn lucky to have this kid on board given the track record of QB's and their "progression" since BK has been in charge.

From the podcast, he is still planning on graduating early (and ND is planning for that as well), but he mentioned not knowing what would happen with the NCAA/California, so he didn't commit one way or another. But right now he is planning to graduate and enroll early.

Yep, he said he will evaluate "week to week" based on NCAA/CA HS/Covid related changes... It was also easy to tell that he's definitely way leaning towards EE still. Just playing it safe, God forbid something stupid happens *ala, NCAA cancels spring football camps due to Covid* then might as well play HS football season in the spring.

Hopefully he is smart enough to go back to his old throwing motion. The one that got him like a million passing yards.

Get to SB asap. As soon as you commit to ND (especially as a QB), your HS career ends when you walk out of the school on Christmas break. And that's for the guy who expects to hold a clipboard for a few years, if you have a legit chance to play as a true frosh? Zero question that has to happen.

I know if it were me, I'd be slinging it for St. Joe or Marian right now.

Tyler James admitted he was the “least articulate Tyler” on that podcast.

Thank goodness he plans on enrolling early. I think that’s what put Jurkovec behind the eight ball.

I'm sure it did not help but it sure sounds like he and Rees did not hit it off.

The fact that Buchner was recruited by, and committed to, Rees suggests that won't be an issue here.

rees always has had a coach mindset, film guy.....phil was not known to be guy wanting to get any extra film sessions in...im sure that doesn't sit well w/ rees especially when he was struggling in camp and in previous camps...............tough to get behind a guy when they aren't willing to put in extra work...this info comes from someone with direct contact w/ rees
