As a philly native who hates Nova with a passion, I miss the Big East so much. Used to go up to MSG every year. I couldn’t give less of a shit about Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. Would love to be with the other Catholic schools.
I miss having DePaul as ND basketball would play in Chicago..loved it at the Allstate Arena.

It’s a bummer because he improved his game from year 1 to year 2. But he’s one dimensional and a below average shooter.
This team needs a new identity and should move to a shooters offense, tbf.
Expecting Burton to announce his submission at this point.

"One-dimensional and below average shooter" yet 15ppg and over 5rpg.
How's that "figure?" And how's that a non-valued asset?
Serious question as I don't watch these guys play.

He lost his dribble on drives way too often and otherwise failed to finish at the rim at an alarmingly bad frequency. That he was our second best player this year is much more an indictment on the state of ND basketball than anything else.

That being said, he did improve and we needed him back.

Curious as to where Davis ends up. Another bad team where he gets the green light to dribble drive to his hearts content or good team where his minutes and touches are way less than they were at ND?
Not surprised if anyone leaves, this boat is taking on water, but Davis had it pretty good in Shrews’ offense.

Check where his shots were from.
His FG% is mis-leading, IMO.

He has value, I’m not saying that he doesn’t. But when your entire offense is to drive the basketball to the hoop, it’s one-dimensional.

Also noted, many TOs and shots being blocked limited his drives.

Davis is a loss, but replaceable. I felt like he played really well up to mid-January, I think people are going to look at his 15 ppg and think this is a huge loss. He improved from year 1 to year 2, but I felt like he could've been a better overall Robin to our Batman.

Burton has to be getting a lot of calls with silly offers. He needs to maximize his college $$, too short for NBA unfortunately. Frustrating to see a difference maker like him with so little help.

Thanks goodness Shrews has some help on the way, ND needs to come through with the NIL on this.

He does but they’ll be true freshman so making the tourney next season is a long shot. Then the following season, the pressure will be intense for him to succeed as the AD will have to opt whether or not to pull the plug

If Shrews can't do it, there is no guarantee that the next guy can. Coach Shrews has shown he can recruit better than Brey. I understand Brey got us to the tournament.

I keep going back to this saying, if you build it they will come, and Shrews is building. Patience my friend...patience.

This is honestly TBD. People thought Brey's last class was going to be great with JJ and Ven, and Starling was higher rated than Haralson despite being lower ranked in his class. Perceptions of Brey's recruiting are skewed by the misses in 2019 and 2020, but the caliber of recruit isn't substantially different overall. At this point, what Shrews' recruits develop into is an unknown.

Coach Shrews has a top 5 class coming in and look how long it took Coach Shrews to land someone from La Lumiere vs Brey.

With Brey's last class I think he was banking on Blake Wesley staying that got JJ on board. If Wesley would've stayed Brey would've gone out a winner.

Chris Thomas and Torin Francis were pretty highly rated/regarded recruits that Mike Brey won pretty earlier in his tenure.

The caliber of recruit in this class is the same as 2022, there is just one more guy in it. If you go back and look at the classes Brey brought in, they are consistent with what Shrews has done from a talent-level standpoint. The issue for Brey, especially the last few years, were the numbers he was bringing in. He was banking on that 2018 class with Nate, Carmody, Hubb, and Dane to figure it out, and when Carmody got hurt, they brought in Cormac. They just never really got it together, and Brey put all his eggs in that basket until the JJ/Ven/Dom class. By then it was too late for him to repair the damage of the missed classes in 2019 and 2020, and the one-and-done of Wesley and Atkinson didn't lead to anything sustainable either.

I don't think he was banking on pairing them up given how that season went for Blake, and Brey's belief that he was potentially a one and done when they signed him added to the fact Blake wasn't particularly enamored of the academic aspect of the ND experience.

The 2022 and 2025 class each has/had a caliber, but overall I think the 2025 class will be better because of whoelse is in the class besides the caliber. I think Dane ended up being the best of the 2018 class; the rest of that class was frustrating to watch.

I'll admit Brey had some good recruiting classes and some players outplayed their recruit ranking, but I really like what coach Shrews has done with recruiting.

JRKonieczny entered the portal today.

We need to add as many as we lose.
Honestly, respect to anyone who is deemed worthy enough to wear the jersey...but Torvik has him currently ranked 429th in his transfer portal ranking.
Addition by subtraction, and hopefully he finds a great school to finish off his academic career at.

Tae Davis is ranked 26th, and obviously a much bigger lose.

Cool free website tool to anyone that is interested.

Soble's sources expect JRK and Davis to be the only departures. Fluid of course.

Maybe I need to take the blue and gold glasses off, but we know that Shrews can recruit and if ND is willing to spend, the message of come play with the best returning point guard in the country should resonate with some quality transfers.

Locally, I'd love to see us go after Jalen Jackson from PFW. The kid is a bucket. He lit Michigan up this year when they played PFW.

I think the frustrating aspect for me, is that it doesn't even seem like we have a chance for the big portal names.

Someone like Owen Freeman (Iowa) should be someone we're all over, and offering big money to, because of our lack of any real size right now.

Shews has to be feeling the pressure right now, and as we've all seen with this tournament and regular season the quickest way to turn around your program is transfers with experience playing big time college basketball.
Even if we strike out, it would just be nice to see ND's name mentioned with some of these big names this transfer portal cycle, so that I can at least feel confident the administration understands that.

Personally, I'm at five alarm fire time with the program.
We haven't been a national title / final four legit contender for now about 10 years.
We've hardly been competitive at all for the tournament now about five years (2022 was fun, but lets face it that team wasn't all that good).
We can hardly get fans / students to come to games, and the excitement level for the program is probably at the lowest it has been in my lifetime (30 years).

This is a big offseason for the administration to decide how we want this program to move forward.
Are we going to be a player in the transfer portal N.I.L space and figure out ways to help our coaching staff "buy" thier roster or continue to get left behind by the sport and believe high school recruiting and graduate transfers from schools like Northwestern, Lehigh, etc. works for our academic standards...

I'll continue to be optimistic, but this past decade has been bleak.
