Notre Dame is a high end situation. He might not get money upfront, but Sam Hartman at Notre Dame is gonna make money
The dude is 24. I’m going to go out on a limb and say he’s considerably more mature than the 18 year olds that only see the immediate gratification. I’m guessing he sees the true value of the package ND would offer.

Loy keeps repeating the time frame he expects anything to happen on.

My guess is this is the case:

- ND is off campus through Friday already. Saturday/Sunday is New Years Eve/New Years. I’d be rather shocked if he wasn’t visiting starting Monday or Tuesday.

Better send the PJ instead if he booked on Southwest.

He can also negotiate his own NIL deals outside of poorly set up collectives. I don’t think Caleb Williams got his deal with companies like Beats by Dre through a USC collective that was barely set up at the time. He got the type of deal they give NFL players. Rogue middle men and empty promises aren’t gonna be the arena where this one is played. He probably has a real agent.

Fortuna on the Shamrock making this sound like it’s done already and it would take something extreme for it to fall through. Said this is a case of Hartman wanting Notre Dame to prove himself

Something extreme is surely on the menu then. Perhaps as he is signing his LOI, Jack creeps in like this

If this is true, then I'm horny.

I've been waiting for a stud QB to realize, succeeding at ND will take them to new heights. Tired of QBs following "qb schools". The first QB to hit at ND is going to be a rich man.

One of Pete’s first opinions on Hartman being he’s surly and short with the media was so annoying.

Take the stick out of your ass Pete.

This makes a lot of sense to me. He is currently projecting as a late round draft pick. But if he can show what he can do with an elite line and talent around him, then he could be a part of the Heisman race and can come out in a position to be picked high enough to have a shot at being an NFL start. Essentially, the kids is betting on his talent and an ability to lead a more talented team. He certainly has Moxy on the field, and is looking for a way to raise his draft profile.

If he wins the Heisman next year at ND he can skip the NFL and announce his candidacy for 2024.

USC literally has the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. You know...the founders of Beats by Dre. I'm pretty sure it wasn't hard for the USC collective to secure NIL deals with Beats, even though the company is now owned by Apple.

I didn’t say connections through USC didn’t help. I said USCs collective may not have helped. There’s a distinction, especially again to a collective that was barely set up at the time and is “rogue” to the university.

Exactly as Hartman can benefit from ND in his NIL ventures without exclusively working through a collective promising XYZ cash through fake signings and busy work.

The one week timeline they laid out when he entered the portal was clearly so that an announcement would not occur before ND's bowl game. ND probably doesn't want the distraction and, as you said, makes no sense to try to get him on campus to dot i's and cross t's while no one is there. Unless you assume the staff is crazy, I just don't see how they passed on Card without assurances that Hartman was in.

Right, seems pretty classy on both their parts, and Clawson for that matter if he in fact allowed Hartman to look around a bit knowing he wouldn't be back. Ive always like Clawson.

Back to the timing part, seems ND and Hartman don't want to steal each others thunder or be a distraction. I am guessing both parties wanted to keep it more under wraps then it has been.

Would be one of the all-time roster management blunders to have Card end up at Purdue and still miss on the rest of the top of board guys as well. Don't see that as a realistic possibility. So, I'm with you. This must be locked up.

Pete's had a grind with ND and access ever since BK put him on the outside looking in right?

Yea then Sampson and Driskell can go have drinks over that then and cry together. It appears that BK did ice out ND analysts that irritated him.

I'm not connected like others, but reading between the lines a little, dating back a few weeks or so, there were a couple ND guys saying the QB who comes to ND may not be among the publicized short list. Back then everyone was saying Card, Leary, Armstrong, Pratt.....maybe a few others. I could be wrong, but it would appear someone knew exactly where Rees was and had some insight that this might happen. Especially since everyone is already talking as if it's a done deal.

So as it pertains to not pressing for Card or Pratt, etc (bird in hand) while waiting on Hartman....my suspicion is that they already knew Hartman was coming and were just ironing out details and waiting on an announcement date that was suitable to both parties.

Just my guess.

From Hartman's perspective this has to be a really good situation:
  • ND already has a history of taking a transfer QB (Jack Coan) who won the starting job and went on to the NFL
    • They also stuck with him when things got rocky so he knows he'll have a fair shot to win and keep the job
  • Depth chart has a guy with 1.5 games experience and injury history, and no one else with any experience
  • Top O-Line to protect him
  • Deep RB group
  • Maturing WR group with incoming transfer and some blue chip freshman.

Going from a QB room of Buchner > Pyne > Angeli > RP3 to Hartman > Buchner > Angeli > Minchey is quite an upgrade.
Not sure there is an adjective to describe the type of increase in talent level that is. It's by far the best collection of talent Rees has had to work with. My excitement level would be through the roof but so would my expectations, lol.
