I also wonder if those guys are gaging everything based on "can this level of QB play beat OSU" and not looking at it in total. IDK, but may be an explanation as to why there's a disconnect??
Prister has actually said on the 247 board that based on "what he has seen and based on what OSU has, in Columbus..."
Analysis and individual game projections are two different things, Tim...

... wish both of them could throw it like Tommy still can.
Damm those videos.

TR is likely several levels below in arm talent where CJ Carr is currently. But he does look tall, thick, and has a nice throwing motion compared to the kids at ND.

This is exactly what Prister had been saying.

Hes said he hasn't seen hardly any of him but heard Tommy say out loud in summer camp they wanted his accuracy to improve.

Prister doesn't think a summer and fall is long enough to be assured about accuracy from a first time starter.

His teammates say he's dropping dimes and is a stud.

We'll see.
My guess is that it's probably gonna be a little bit of both. I think we're going to see him make plays and drop dimes....and have an occasional bad decision/inaccurate pass.

From the clips I’ve seen in practice, which is barely any, he is slightly off on a lot of throws, but they’re still catchable balls. Just hope they aren’t diverted into tipped interceptions.

our offensive game plan will probably look similar to 2018 with more TE action obviously

Tim Prister's article today

• When I think of…Notre Dame and NIL, look for an announcement from Notre Dame next week regarding the FUND Foundation (Friends of the University of Notre Dame) collective spearheaded by Brady Quinn.

Post this in enough threads?

Davis Sherwood gives me Quenton Nelson vibes. I don't know if it's his deadpanning, his supreme self-confidence or the fact that he's a cold-blooded killer who'll be taking out the trash this season but I'm kind of excited to see him make an appearance.
Can’t wait to see him knock the shit out of people, just as I, along with his other 4 older brothers did to him as a kid. Thanks for the support.

I approve of the return of the FB/H-Back. Think Sherwood is gonna be a pretty big player for us this season tbh. Feels like a role Tommy wants back in the offense.
With a good FB/H Back and Mayer’s ability to play both wide or in line they could do some interesting things to stress a defense.

Add in Estime’s progression and Buchner’s mobility and OSU will be vulnerable to chunk plays every time they put 5 DBs on the field.

One of my favorite things about Rees' offenses has been the creativity with different formations/personnel groups out there. I'm imagining a 22 personnel look with Tyree/Estime, Mayer, Sherwood, and Styles out there with Buchner.....and then they split out and go 5 wide.

How many of these college LBers have ever had to deal with a lead block coming out of the backfield? I'm sure they've seen it a few times but very rare. Kinda crazy to think about if you played ball pre 2010ish.

I'll never understand the pyne fanhood.

He has literally been picked over for years now. He clearly isn't enough.

Has one "moment" in that Wisconsin game. If you go back and watch that game pass by pass he started absolutely everything down and throws floaters that Wiscy was just sitting back soft for who knows what reason.
Well, he did have a higher rating than either of the other two QBs in the two games he played in last year. He played most of the 2nd half against Wisconsin and the entire 2nd half of Cinci, so more than a moment. It was still a tie game when he took over against Wisky. He also brought us within 4 points of Cinci after being scoreless at halftime, and then Austin dropped a wide open gimme pass that would have given us a 1st down. After that we ran out of gas as the Bearcats pulled away.

I'm pulling for Buchner, but I like to rile people up with Pyne memes.

August is not fall, but for generations of American Gridiron it is known as Fall Camp.

I don't like it. We got rid of Daylight Savings Time, we need this remedied next.

TBF, it would be strange for pOSU to roll out 5 DBs with a TE, FB and RB on the field. That leaves us with only 2 WRs. They'd be more likely to counter personnel like that with a base 3-4/4-3

Yeah, if OSU is insistent on running their 4-2-5 base on 3rd and 6 then ND might realistically be able run the ball in that situation. The flip side is I think ND can throw the ball effectively out of that personnel grouping when OSU doesn't have five DBs on the field.

This is a great point. They probably haven't even seen it on YouTube.

I am convinced this is why Stanford peaked under Harbaugh and Shaw around that period of time. Rich Rod and Lord Florida's spread was en vogue by then. Poodle was just about gone. Here comes Stanford with this 1980s looking formation and nobody could handle it. They had Andrew Luck and big people running at your defenders putting a hat on them and then some.

From college to varsity HS you're basically preparing for the same offense, to a degree, every single week in most cases. Now imagine you are watching FILM and you see a fullback and multiple TE formations. Even if these guys can coach and instruct against it while having your scout team replicate it in practice, seeing it live and in color on a Saturday is going to be a bit of a chore.

Right. I think that's the more interesting question. All our opponents will expect us to play to our strengths with a smash mouth offense, and will stack the box accordingly. Are we going to be able to punish them by splitting out RBs and TEs to create mismatches against LBs?

I’d take 2017, pre-Miami. Would enjoy running for 300+ in the Shoe.
As would I, but that 2017 OL was on a whole different level - i don't think this 2022 unit is nearly as good.
