How many of these college LBers have ever had to deal with a lead block coming out of the backfield? I'm sure they've seen it a few times but very rare. Kinda crazy to think about if you played ball pre 2010ish.
This is a great point. They probably haven't even seen it on YouTube.
I am convinced this is why Stanford peaked under Harbaugh and Shaw around that period of time. Rich Rod and Lord Florida's spread was en vogue by then. Poodle was just about gone. Here comes Stanford with this 1980s looking formation and nobody could handle it. They had Andrew Luck and big people running at your defenders putting a hat on them and then some.
From college to varsity HS you're basically preparing for the same offense, to a degree, every single week in most cases. Now imagine you are watching FILM and you see a fullback and multiple TE formations. Even if these guys can coach and instruct against it while having your scout team replicate it in practice, seeing it live and in color on a Saturday is going to be a bit of a chore.
