Perhaps Angeli isnt some scrub like IE made him otu to be.

A lot of these kids had strange HS careers with covid and he probably was asked to run an offense that wasnt exactly beneficial to looking like some gun slinger.

Now - I am not sayign he is the savior of ND football. But he can also be really good.
Completely agree, and he looked the part in the Spring Game but obviously that's a meaningless scrimmage and should be taken with a grain of salt.

But, Angeli is one of the many reasons why I'm not as concerned as others about our "need" for an elite 2023 QB. We took our shot with Moore and it backfired, but we got our guy in Carr in 2024. Buchner/Angeli plus a 2023 signee or a transfer TBD = the sky is NOT falling.

I thought you were smarter than this. BTW, on an unrelated note, Junior Jabbie says "hi".
Georgia won a title with a walk on QB no reason why Angeli can’t be a starter one day!!
With their all-century defense, they could have won with a parking cone.

Who are you taking?

A) 6'1" 200 .8681 517 National
B) 6'3" 215 .8962 365 National

QB A went on to become ND's all time wins at QB record holder.

There is nothing saying that ND cant win ball games with Angeli. If we want to get into is he the difference maker in beating the elite of the elite then thats fine. But most around her consider him not even worthy of a scholarship.

Now do Joe Montana - what was his Rivals ranking

Haha, certainly a unique situation last year. I actually think Stetson Bennett is quite good but he certainly benefited from an otherworldly defense. I mean, five first round draft picks....insane.

I think a more realistic comp/expectation for Angeli would be to hope he can be Ian Book 2.0. Book was good enough to get us to the CFP, and with the way Freeman is recruiting, have to wonder how things would go if Book had that boost in talent across the roster.

If we need a "gap" type of QB for a year or two (depending on how things shake out with Buchner and how quickly Carr gets up to speed), hopefully we can do some damage with the talent boost if we get back there before we get that elite QB play we all know ND desperately needs.

Or we are all wrong, and Angeli is a future HOFer lol

If you surround any QB with elite playmakers at RB, TE and WR then and should be fine with whoever playing QB

Book had well known limitations.

I'm not sure giving him 5 future NFL play makers, or an all world defense would have changed that. Teams still would have been able to make him have to beat them and I don't know if he would have been able to do that at the highest stage.

Although it wouldnt have hurt :D

Wait a minute! You've been on this board for a long time. You should know by now a bunch of internet coaches are more knowledgeable than a coaching staff that makes their living coaching.

I don’t dislike Mike but man sometimes he is just a misery to listen to
Agreed...he's just a debby downer all the time. I get it, not everyone on the team is perfect, we're not Bama, but he bemoans the point ad nauseam.

If Angeli starts more than a game or two for injury over his entire career then Tommy failed at his job imo. Sounds harsh, I know.

I think Tyree will line up more in the slot as a WR over straight up backfield at RB good problem to have they could have 6-7 backs next year

I’m listening to the II podcast, they talk about Buchner as if he’s a turnover machine. I have no idea where that narrative came from.

They said Liufau was active in the Thursday scrimmage.

I’m pretty sure the staff isn’t showing any kind of packages during the media viewing.

Probably got a much-needed day off if he was a full participant in a 90-play scrimmage after having been limited prior to that.

Sampson saying Estime may have passed both Diggs and Tyree.
Love when a young guy competes and wins a job in camp.

Regarding Liufau, I wonder if it's a mental thing more than a physical issue. Seems like I constantly hear about Bertrand and Kiser having high football IQs and I don't hear the same about Liufau or Bauer. Maybe I'm reading too much into coach speak or taking head talking points.

If Tommy trots out some sort of diamond formation with all three on the field I would personally fund and build a statue right then and there. The RPO possibilities would be endless. Nebraska ran it when they had Taylor Martinez and Ameer Abdullah in their backfield with two other complementary backs and it fucking ruled. Absolutely slashed and gashed defenses, so naturally Tim Beck didn’t deploy it more than a couple times a game. Could be a deadly formation if implemented

I laughingly want to sign on the form with you. I don't think it'd work with modern defenses but I love the idea, especially with our limited WRs and loaded TE room.

He says “guys if you don’t think this is a huge problem…” idk who is arguing with him all the time but it sounds like everyone is according to him

I would counter and say the diamond formation RPO is a great way to attack against an aggressive defence. You have three running options (plus Buchner), have to defend Tyree on the perimeter as a receiving threat, Mayer etc. Could cause absolute chaos for a defense to deal with
