Prister seems to have a lot of info here and I'd take the list he put out as what Swarbrick will be doing. He shot down any talk of Ingelsby and Chris Holtmann saying neither are on ND's shortlist. If his list is credible outside of Quinn and Sweeney, I think Devries or Kelsey from Drake and Charleston are the best options. Anthony Grant, Bryce Drew, and Micah Shrewsbury are lateral moves.

I read something about Kelsey had some affair or something that cost him a job. Would we go after someone like that? I get that’s not the end of the world. I didn’t read much into it so I don’t know many details.

Let me say, I appreciate how Brey handled himself at the press conference. Class act in that moment. Congrats on 23 years as ND coach. He has not hurt this program OVERALL the past 23 years, he has helped it

I still think that if Sweeney really wants this job bad enough and it is supposed to be his dream job, it's going to land there. I doubt there are many dudes whose dream job is ND Basketball.
Not saying you’re wrong but John Beilein was quoted saying ND was his dream job at one point.
Think it was also called out in someone’s article yesterday, too.

So far I've got Sweeney and Beilein, who turns 70 in a couple of weeks.

My hope is the field is bigger, but if so I'm thinking not by much.

Hadn't seen that.

He was going to leave Winthrop for UMass, then suddenly backed out and went back to Winthrop. It was only cited as personal reasons.

Only way you go Beilein is if you are confident that he can give 5-7 years. Would think it would be harder to get recruits to buy in if they think their isn't much of a chance that the coach will still be there for the end of their college career.

You don't replace retiring Mike Brey with 70 year old Beilein under any circumstance.

Think I saw it on twitter... but someone put out Fran McCaffrey as a name to keep an eye on. Former assistant and wife went to ND, or something.

It bothers me more than it should that he admitted he thought about doing it after the Texas Tech elimination. Sounds like he wasn't all in.
When he said he told the graduates and seniors "let's go for one last dance" it didn't bother me as much. Sounds like he may have contemplated it, but it appears he wanted to try and get back to the postseason one more time with this group. Obviously that's not gonna happen, so I think he finally decided to throw in the towel with this young roster and let a fresh perspective come in and take over. It would be a total rebuild next year with or without Brey, the timing makes sense IMO.

Coach Brey had a nice run, some good seasons. ND MBB is not ever going to be elite due to several factors. Hope they can get a decent coach that can get them back on track and be a consistent NCAA tournament team and respectable ACC team. This year just went sour from the start, and never got back on track. Games I've seen were sorry performances.

To me Brey has looked in retirement mode the past 4-5 years. The move to announce this now vs. the end of the season is the right move.
Hopefully he can motivate guys to stick around-- last year's class especially.

If the 2018 class were advertised as they were recruits I wonder where they would've taken this team, but Solomon also left after the Elite 8 run's, and his defenses during those runs played defense.

The burn offense & the road dawgs were fun. Brey did all he could with this program and the more and more I read Sweeney looks have a plan if he is our next coach.

Thanks Coach!

Brey's "loosest" coach in America schtick was nice during the initial runs, but it quickly turned into complacency. Brey seems, as a person, that's he's embraced his next stage in life. Unshaven, overweight, just doesn't give an f like he used to. He's earned retirement if he chooses that path. I don't think coaching at this level is right for him anymore. ESPN desk job seems like a good fit personality wise imo

He’d be great in the studio. If Inglesby moves on from Delaware (please not to ND) I could see him retiring into that job as well and heading back to Delaware. He’s always commented on retiring there. He spends bulk of his time away from South Bend there. Maybe I’m completely off-base and he wouldn’t want to go from the ACC to CAA but who knows. He seems like he’d love to coach in a low-stress spot, and would do well there.

Why would they want to hire someone that's 70 years old? That literally defeats the purpose of building towards the future lol
It makes zero sense to me

I hoped for a dead-cat bounce, instead just got the dead cat. Gonna be a long limping finish.
