hoping he unretires today so he can be fired tomorrow
… NOThink I saw it on twitter... but someone put out Fran McCaffrey as a name to keep an eye on. Former assistant and wife went to ND, or something.
70 isn’t rocking chair age. You can flip a program in 1-2 years. If he gave just 3-5 years it would set the program up for the next coach. Why would they want to hire someone that's 70 years old? That literally defeats the purpose of building towards the future lol
Especially in this era. We have a 7-man rotation with 2 being freshmen and 3 being former transfers.70 isn’t rocking chair age. You can flip a program in 1-2 years. If he gave just 3-5 years it would set the program up for the next coach.
its a long way till SeptemberOur new coach is going to have to do some digging out of a deep hole. There is nothing positive to say about ND basketball right now. I thought yesterday they would come out with some fight, energy, some want-to.
I am surprised that JJ Starling hasn't said F it and left the program....
New coach will need to hit transfer portal hard to even have a serviceable team. There are holes everywhere and you have to think a lot of the talented players may bounce.
Haven’t watched a game in a few weeks.Especially in this era. We have a 7-man rotation with 2 being freshmen and 3 being former transfers.
He ought to be proven. He's 70 years old. Also currently not coaching, so he's available.I would have no problem with Beilein. Proven winner.
We’ve had better luck in basketball with the undergrad transfers for whatever reason. Larger pool of respectable colleges with credits that actually transfer over would be my guess but we also got Hansbrough as an undergrad transfer from Mississippi State. Back in the early Brey days we also took undergrad transfers from Arizona and Maryland.Id imagine it will be several years of trying to take multiple grad transfers with the challenge of getting undergrad transfers admitted. While building on recruiting classes in the process of doing that.

Same 7 man rotation they've had all year:Haven’t watched a game in a few weeks.
7 man rotation?
Did they get a couple new guys?
I hope not. With his lack of success (Now in his thirteenth year at Iowa, he has been unable to get over the hump despite coaching a number of talented players) why think it would be any different at ND.Think I saw it on twitter... but someone put out Fran McCaffrey as a name to keep an eye on. Valid point... though a whole different recruiting world opens up with Indiana HS compared to Iowa. And he does seem to do a good job of developing players.I hope not. Not all are proven winners though! He ought to be proven. He's 70 years old. Also currently not coaching, so he's available.
Someone younger and more sober than Brey would be a really good starting point.
Iowa is definitely a better basketball job than ND.Fran McCaffery is basically a crankier Mike Brey. Well, at least Mike Brey up till about 4 years ago.
Coaches who could get their teams into the tournament but likely out of the tournament very quickly. Coaches who are usually running efficient offenses, but show little interest in playing defense. Coaches who generally field unathletic teams.
Fran is expected to become Iowa's All-time Wins Leader next year, two kids on the team. Plus I don't view ND's basketball program any better than Iowa.
Only way Fran pursues ND is if he's convinced he's close to being fired. Even if he has interest, don't think it makes much sense on ND's end.
Why is that? ND is top 10 all time in tournament appearances, Iowa is like ~30th. Both teams currently have 3 players in the NBA.Iowa is definitely a better basketball job than ND.
I would say currently, not all time, Iowa is a more attractive job.Why is that? ND is top 10 all time in tournament appearances, Iowa is like ~30th. Both teams currently have 3 players in the NBA.
Who are the three ND players in the NBA?Why is that? ND is top 10 all time in tournament appearances, Iowa is like ~30th. Both teams currently have 3 players in the NBA.
Who are the three ND players in the NBA?
I think Matt Ryan counts, he's on a two-way contract but still playing some for the Timberwolves, and played 7 minutes last night. He also hit that buzzer beater for the Lakers last year to force OT, a game they eventually won 120-117.Pat and Wesley. Matt Ryan is probably the third but I don’t consider him

In a sport where there are only about 450 players active in any given year, I think anybody suiting up can be "counted." Only 1.2% of college hoopers go on to the league...that's an exclusive club.
I see what you're saying, that's completely fair.He transferred to Vandy as a sophomore and got his real value out of his performance at Chattanooga.
