I remember thinking Smith at 29 was a reach at the time lol. He showed me.

He’s not a reach. He wouldn’t have been there if Pittsburgh had stayed at 20 and I’m fairly certain the Bengals would’ve taken Bush at 11 if he was there. They still have 2 picks on day 2; their normal 3rd round and a very early 3rd pick from acquired from OAK. The 2020 3rd round pick they gave up is fine because they’ll be getting a 3rd round comp pick next year for Bell.

The “he’s short” thing doesn’t make much sense to me. He tested out just as good as Devin White. Linebackers rarely use their height to make plays anyway.

Bottom line, Pittsburgh needed to fix their situation at inside linebacker. They did it with someone who has GREAT sideline-to-sideline speed and that is needed in toady’s NFL. One GM for a team had Bush at #2 on their big board. It would’ve been a risky move to wait until a later round to get a LB. They tried to trade up last year, they failed, and it showed on Sundays.

He's a good scheme fit for a team that was using Shazier in that spot.

Me too. I know he wasn't going to play LB but he was so abysmal when Weis stuck him there I couldn't shake that memory.

GM for KC structured Frank Clark's contract well (post 255) with a salary of $850K this year, then it bumps up to $24 mill next year. So, KC's cap stays in $20 mill range for 2019. In 2020, Sammy Watkins can be let go for $14 mill in cap savings.

So, as far as the draft goes, KC can draft a WR today or tomorrow to replace Watkins. Tyreek's and Chris Jone's rookie contracts end this year.

Clark has $63 mill guaranteed on the $105 mill contract. Should he be let go in 2023, the Chiefs would save $21 mill against the cap.

I get that Pitt needed to fix an issue at MLB. You can't however let concerns about what other teams may do dictate what you do and possibly over pay as a result. If the Pats needed someone for their interior DL, should they have moved up to get Ed Oliver in front of the Bills or moved up to 2 to get Williams before the Jets drafted him? How far do you go?

Additionally it isn't just over paying. Is Bush really the 10th best player in the draft? If not, then that in part defines whether or not you're reaching when drafting.

As far as "testing out", are you referring to the combine results? If the GM went up 10 spots and traded that capital because of combine results, he should be fired.

Easily the best and deepest position remaining. S is pretty good too, with CB at third IMO.
OL is still decent. OT has a few high guys, and OG is just plain deep imo.

No, the Pats moving from 32 to 8 or 9 is a lot different than Pittsburgh going from 20 to 10. You can’t compare the two. You’re the only one that I know of that thinks Pittsburgh gave up too much. I don’t think they overpaid at all.

At the end of the day, Pittsburgh is one of the best drafting teams in the league. It’s hard to question their draft decisions most of the time.

They moved up to fill a need and block Cincy on the same need, but I’m thrilled they did it lol.

They forced Cincy into addressing the OL with the best OL in the draft, rather than allowing them to get Devin Bush, who would fill a need but wasn’t tops at his position.

I’d love Cincy to go OL again in the second, then target Coney and Tranquill in the 3rd and 4th. Get the band back together.

Just looked at team needs on NFL.COM and there is about to be a CB run. I think 25+ of the teams have CB/DB as a need.

Julian better not fall out of the 2nd round, and the earlier the better.

I'm always on board with teams trading back and accruing capital. With that said: Jawaan Taylor makes sense if they want a high-value OT. Chauncy Gardner-Johnson at S, Greedy W. or Byron Murphy at CB and DK Metcalf or Parris Campbell at WR.

Those have to be at the top of the board right now, right? If they can grab two of those guys from that list, that'd be a really good start.

If they trade back, they can probably get 2 players for each position need and drastically increase the possibility of success.

Well said. I like all of those except Greedy for the Colts. He's a man press corner who doesn't tackle while the Colts play zone. But who knows?
