It’s not like I want it to happen but as I went through the schedule it’s how it came out. VT’s environment is going to be a bitch like Miami’s last year and USC is going to want some serious revenge. Michigan is a toss up and so is Stanford. NW just felt like the type of game ND would lose under Kelly because it will be their super bowl. Not sure how it’s embarrassing to be honest. I am worried about the oline, Wimbush and the lack of a true #1 RB. I hope to hell I am wrong.

The toughest games IMO in this order....

@USC
@VT
scUM (would be first or second if it was not the first game of the year)
@NW (after Navy, before FSU....on the road, biggest trap game of the year)
Stan
FSU

Athlon rates ND as having the 3rd toughest schedule.
I think we'll be better than 8-5, but it's not crazy.

Our schedule is void of top 10 teams, but we have 5 top 20 teams, and NW got plenty of votes.

Alrighty, I called a 10 win season with this schedule in the middle of last year, so time to see if it still holds up after a fall camp that had a surprising number of warm up throw hot takes. Let's get it on!

vs. Michigan: Shea butter is to skin, as Shea Patterson is to the turf at ND Stadium = W 1 - 0
vs. Ball State: W 2 - 0
vs. Vanderbilt: Derek Mason doesn't worry about South Bend, or winning ball games = W 3- 0
@ Wake Forest: Bad news, they bring back lots of experience in the secondary! Good news, those players are not good at sport! = W 4 - 0
Sep. 29 vs. Stanford: Home game and the tree has lots of bigger conference games around it, fingers crossed.... = W 5 - 0
@ Virginia Tech: Their home prowess is severely overrated so unless Blacksburg got a fresh load of coaches in that need burning I like our chances against a secondary built from whoever wins the intramurals championship = W 6- 0
vs. Pittsburgh: Pat Narduzzi is an excellent defensive coordinator! Head coach not so much = W 7 - 0
Bye week: NOBODY DOES BYE WEEK BETTER THAN US = R&R 7 - 0
vs. Navy: Alohi means goodbye = W 8 - 0
@ Northwestern: Speaking of coaches who have never had back to back 10 win seasons at their current employers = W 9 - 0
vs. Florida State: Taggert has won more than 8 games exactly once, his agent has won multiple times = W 10 - 0
vs. Syracuse: 4 - 8 three straight years? = W 11 - 0
@ USC: I've got a bad feeling about this... = L 11 -1

Hopefully the conferences are a blood bath and 11 -1 gets the good guys in the playoffs where a hard fought first round loss sets the program up for....wait for it....JUST WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR. For real this time though!

To look at every tough or "toss up" game and predict a loss is just not realistic. I guess that's where our opinions aren't aligned.

Our defense isn't going to allow opponents to blow us out IMO, and our offense isn't going to be anemic to the tune of losing 5 close, low scoring games, to put it quite simply.

"These are games Kelly loses"

Just isn't realistic when he has good teams... Last year they beat a good MSU on the road, they beat USC at home... They looked good... I think anyone who thinks we are losing to NW has zero faith in the talent on this team

Big time night road games is where ND has come up short in the Kelly era IN MY OPINION. Miami, FSU, Texas ‘16, Clemson, etc...They have lost them all obviously but I have come to not expect much when they play a big game at night on the road. Even though I despise Fitzgerald, NW will be as fired up for this game as any on their schedule and ND could potentially have 2 losses already and be out of the playoff picture. We have seen how the team reacts when that happens. Plus its after Navy in San Diego at night. NW is coming off a rough stretch of games too. I am not sure why people are getting fired up in a prediction thread. I hope they win em all.

They haven't lost them all, they've lost the ones you selectively put down. Oklahoma, MSU x3, Temple (hey, they were ranked and considered a tough defense), USC

Some people only remember the negative so I'm giving you a pass. Slip up again and I'll rain down hellfire.

You are absolutely correct. Those are the ones that stand out and I am obviously scarred from my fandom. Trust me when I say I do not handle them losing very well. Sadly, I have to tell myself not to snap at my kids during the games.

Why is there an option for 14 wins but no option for, say, 3 wins? Kelly has been closer to 3 wins than to 14 wins.

Lol. I've got my eye on you Ndnationite, tread softly.

And I'm uncertain but I'm guessing the OP assumed the general intellect on this board was high enough that no one would venture that low unless they were Tusking...errrr....Trolling.

You think we should add to the options?

How is it trolling? I'm assuming not many predicted 4 wins in 2016, but it happened.

It isn't trolling. 4 wins would have been an accurate prediction two years ago but isn't listed as an option. Not only is <6 wins a possibility, it's more likely based on past performance than 13 or 14 wins, both of which are included.

We see you in the game day threads, you don't handle us winning very well either lol

I don't see anybody in the "too drunk to remember" category (which I interpret as the worse than 6-7 category, maybe Tusker does not). So if the poster doesn't actually believe 4 wins is an accurate assessment then what's the point of the complaint?

Yes, it exists specifically for predicting "so bad that we didn't go to a bowl game" and the fact that ZERO people have voted in that category means they didn't really need to have 3, 4, 5 as their own win totals.

Murtaugh just predicted 9-3 based on our projected YPP differential.

In theory, I'd be ok with 9-3. But, I have a hard time looking at the schedule and being ok with that 3rd loss. If we were to lose on the road at VT and USC, I can wrap my head around that. Wouldn't like it, but can understand it. However, that 3rd loss would either have to be at home to a team I hate (Stan/UM/FSU) or a fairly significant upset. So, that makes that 3rd loss a tough pill to swallow.

I'd be happy enough with 9-3... I see 8 potential loses, meaning I see only four games we can basically write in as wins, right now, today. So we go 5-3 against the teams that COULD beat us... realistically with our coaching changes, the QB situation, and other question marks I think 5-3 is a fair enough expectation assuming we do indeed hold the other four off as one would expect. It wouldn't be super faith inspiring but could def be worse.

Lmao who the hell is "Some Irish Bloke"? Negged me for this post.

It's ok Wiz...I got a neg rep last year b/c I was pissed due to all the UGA fans in the stadium and, IMO, if I was a ND player I would have been pissed that our fans sold out. I was told to go root for another team, it happens.

awww, are you going to lose sleep tonight over a worthless online "reputation?" I disagree with your post, so I negged. Didn't know it was that big of a deal. I didn't bat an eye when you got petty and went back to a post I made last week and negged it.

The two quarterbacks who have the potential to start on this football team led us to 10 wins last year, and a bowl victory over a top SEC defense. And we have a strong enough defense to support sub-par QB play if that were to be the way the season played out.

Rub some dirt on it, kid.

Just a heads up, and because you are somewhat new here, I understand if this hasn't been covered. But we don't use negging the same way 247 uses up/down votes. Negging is much less about disagreement and much more reserved for serious trolling. Disagreements are handled through discourse, quoting of posts, and creating a back and forth, not negging other posters. Especially the type of post that you negged.

Well, in that context I guess I understand, and it hadn't been covered. I'll keep that in mind.

Still don't think it's that big of a deal, but noted.
