2018 College Football Playoff

The fact that Georgia had the game won and pissed it away will make their argument a lot less compelling. Hard to see the fourth spot not going to Oklahoma at this point.

I agree. I was mostly just wondering why the poster asked if Georgia will “do it”?

Oklahoma 1 loss. Georgia 2. Oklahoma defeating a higher ranked Texas. Oklahoma in over OSU even if they wax Northwestern.

I think when he posted the game was still in question. “Do it” = win.

This OSU team isn’t good. Their fans are delusional to think they should be in over ND, like I’m hearing in Columbus. The top 3 teams are clearly Bama, Clemson, and ND. Followed by UGA... THEN OU and OSU.

JFC. Yeah, they're probably the best two loss team in the nation, but can we stop stumping for two SEC playoff entries now? I'm pretty sure this is the same girl that didn't think the Irish would get in if they went undefeated.

Alabama's win over Georgia in the SEC championship cemented the Tide's spot as the No. 1 team in the country — but did it really knock Georgia out? The No. 4 Bulldogs played so well in defeat it's possible the committee still considers them for a top four finish — BUT ... remember we haven't even seen a two-loss conference champ in the playoff, let alone a two-loss runner-up. Georgia would have to be "unequivocally" better than the Big 12 and Big Ten champs. It's certainly up for debate.

I was asking if they were going to pull off the upset. Check the time I posted it.

Yeah, there's certainly a case to be made, but we should also acknowledge that it's less the conference and more to do with Alabama. Put Alabama in the Big 12 or ACC and the discussion changes to either of those conferences. Georgia is certainly good, and I think 'Bama had to have a little bit of heroics because of the Tua injury, but they still came up big when it counted. I mean, if we want anyone in at #4 I think we probably DO want Georgia in there because OU and tOSU don't have the defense to stand toe to toe with the Tide...but this whole narrative of two SEC teams continually getting into the playoff just seems silly and I think it's bad for the sport.

I was on your side. The SEC gets every benefit of the doubt to get their most talented team(s) in every year and (shocker) they do well.

Of course, I'm just tired of the two SEC playoff discussion being pushed. Just saw this:

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.espn.com/core/video/iframe?id=25427296&endcard=false" allowfullscreen frameborder="0"></iframe>

She doubles down on the Georgia narrative until the host points out "So, are we talking about a world where a win over Texas is not as good as a loss against Alabama?" To which she responds "Well, when you put it that way..." Reality has finally come home.

I think it’s self fulfilling to a point. They honest to goodness do less to get there and then we slurp all over them when they beat teams that have beaten themselves up it’s been this way since the 90s

Herbstreit is on the ACC title game saying Georgia should MOVE UP after losing to Bama. What is he smoking?

How about Pitt? If they lose close, do they get in? Why even play 12 games? Let's just pick two teams from each conference, and whoever gives Herbie a boner gets in.

Georgia got murdered by fucking LSU, for fuck's sake.

Odd how it’s the same fuckin schools every year. Records mean nothing. I laughed when some said an undefeated ND team with the schedule they played would be considered less of a team compared to a team that lost 2 games. This fucking sport is in bad hands right now if this is how it’s going to be why bother if you don’t even get rewarded for a perfect season. I feel like UCF right now only we played a good schedule and deserve it.

Herbstreit is an absolute joke. Give me analysts with no school affiliation. Howard and KH are tiring and frankly garbage. I like Pollack. He’s a dick but at least he doesn’t talk with a mouthful of Uga when he speaks his mind and gives his opinion.

Am I the only one who thinks Georgia completely shat the bed in the fourth quarter? It'd be one thing if this was a back-and-forth barnburner, last-team-with-the-ball wins kind of shootout. It wasn't.
They had a 14 point lead and the ball late in the 3rd quarter. The other team's QB got hurt. And they lost. They're certainly talented. And they played a good three quarters. But they failed in all aspects of the game when it counted.
There's no reason they should get in over OU, OSU or certainly over ND.

That's just losers who hate ND right there. There are years when two-loss teams exist that are better than some undefeated teams, but nobody will ever bring up that idea unless Notre Dame is the undefeated team. I think a lot of folks on this board underestimate how much ND is hated by a lot of folks between the ages of 40-60, which includes most of the folks in the media.

One reason people feel that way is because of what happened in 2012. Recall that like this year Georgia nearly beat that Bama team in the SEC title game. A replay of that -which is not out of the question- will not bolster our reputation.

College post season sucks. I love the regular season but the long break and bull shit committee stuff just makes the post season seem ridiculous. How is this the only sport where the arguing never stops?

Look, we all know Northwestern. If OSU blows this one, it will be to a Wildcats team that plays good football. I mean, the Buckeyes could even go up in the rankings.

Kirk waiving this reward the 4 best team flag is insane. The playoff isn’t about naming a top 4. It’s about naming a top 1. We’ve already determined it’s not Georgia. Maybe Georgia is #2. But we now know they aren’t #1 so there is no point in including them any longer. This is just a continuation of the Michigan > ND argument. Why play the games if we are going to act like the playoff = power rankings. No one is going to remember who was #3 in the CFB playoff 10 years later. We just need to determine who is #1!

This is why multiples from one conference make no sense and I don't give a crap if the SEC has the top 4 teams. If that's the case, the national championship gets to be won in Atlanta in the SEC Championship game and the winner gets to play what the rest of the country musters up in the playoffs.

I mean, that's what it's like anyway most of the time, no?

Should be...

1. Bama 13-0
2. Clemson 13-0
3. ND 12-0
4. Oklahoma 12-1

5. UGA 11-2 or OSU 12-1
UGA does pass the eye test, as they "should" have beaten Bama, but it is a second loss. I'd put them above OSU. OSU has one loss, but it was a shellacking by Purdue.

If true, then award the best team by not forcing them to or play those games again
They beat them, they shouldn't have to prove they're better again

And UCF has zero losses. And beat Pitt by a lot more than ND, and about the same as Clemson did....

If we're prioritizing Ws and Ls, and looking at common opponents....

Point is, people use the eye test when they want, and rely on records and common opponents when they want. It's too subjective.
