Who is the major '17 target ISD is downgrading? Are they downgrading his ability or the chances of landing him?

I think you're talking about Black. They confirmed what everyone else had hinted at for a while: that Black isn't a serious target for the Irish. ISD isn't sure who stopped the contact. However, a guy who knows people in Cheshire says that ND is already getting the better player and team fit in Holmes.

If you could pick 5 players to EE, who would you go with?

Mine would be:

Darnell Ewell
Paulson Adebo
Donovan Jeter
Cole Kmet
Isaiah Robertson

I was asked if I knew anything about this kid today. I didn't. He plays for Chula Vista Mater Dei (San Diego), not Santa Ana Mater Dei in OC. Anyways, after I saw the link I had to share it. He doesn't have a bio on any of the 4 sites. What do you guys think of the film?

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OuHPksm3mns" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This was less than 4 months ago. At the time Verdell had no offers, he didn't even have a bio on any of the recruiting sites. Today he has 17 DI offers and committed to Oregon.

My favorite film by far. There's 3-4 SC Top10's on there.

Hard to believe someone like this was "hiding" in San Diego, right in front of millions.

That's the fascinating part about recruiting for me, even with the technologies and manpower the industry aims at the sport, there are still guys that stay under the radar.

I missed this until today.

Last Friday, CJ Verdell's SD Mater Dei played LA Augustus Hawkins who have 15 D1 players, five 4 stars, two 5 stars, 5 players holding ND offers and so on...

In a 51-42 loss against one of the most loaded teams in the country, Verdell rushed 28 times, for 278 yds and 6 TD's.

This kid might turn into an all-timer at Oregon and yet he's still just a 3 star on everyone's board except ESPN who bumped him to a 4.

If he keeps up this pace he'll break Reggie Bush's rushing record in just 10 regular season games.

This class can go in two directions:

1. Turn into a top 3 class and stick together like 2008 class.

2. Completely falls apart.

Honestly..still feels too early in the season to think that. As long as we finish strong I think that will be enough to keep a top 15 recruiting class. My gut feeling is the pieces aren't in place yet, but we have the necessary pieces to turn the season around. The reality is though we have a very underachieving team with a lot of high skill athletes. That's just what we are in 2016. This can be solved in time for sure though. The right personality has to walk through the doors and be willing to recruit unlike BVG if we ever want to see a top ranked defense anytime soon. They are definitely out there and ND might be finally willing to open the checkbook to get the program turned around.

No more BK friends and former D2 coaches. BK and ND need to pay top top dollar and get an elite DC, a game changer of a coach who can recruit the best of the best and someone who won't be another yes-man to BK.

Yes, I honestly think the school won't even let Brian Kelly choose the guy coming in after this year now. Got to think they lost trust in him after losing to a bad Duke team. I do think, ND is so embarrassed they will get an established defensive coordinator who will play a major role in recruiting more 4 & 5 star talent. They may pull a fast one on Brian Kelly though if they do intend to be a 3 win team or something that absurd.

So you think the AD will go over Brian Kelly's head and make a hire for DC?

And you think a good DC will walk in to a situation like that?

They just lost to Duke...the football team. Jack and Brian do work well together over years in my opinion. Do you think Swarbrick is that naive not to take control of a sinking ship though? I guarantee you Swarbrick was the one who axed BVG for real anyway if you think about what Kelly said before and after press conferences of the Duke game. So obvious.

Random update, not sure where to put it really. Anna has left II and will work for the Clemson 247 site now. She's a Clemson grad and it basically returning home. Sucks as she was great.

Anna wrote a really nice goodbye post to everyone and loved her time at ND. She plans to return for the NC State/ND game next year with her family.

I am thinking we should be able to add

WR J. Calvin
WR O. Martin
DE H. Echols

I'd take out Echols and add another OL. Not sure who it would be at this point but we certainly need to land a OT. Sounds like Banks might be the best bet, but I still don't feel confident there. I'd assume, we send out some new offers to OT's over the bye, or double back on some we might have not pushed for previously.

The rest I agree with.

Irish247 is hinting at good news coming, well they did over the weekend but it sounds like it should be out soon. My guess is a Elijah Hicks commitment. Anybody have any thoughts?

My money would be on Hicks. It could be Carter but I doubt it. We'll know in 5 days.

It will be interesting to see what happens after that. Is Delpit maybe the news??? LSU does have the #1 safety in the country committed in JaCoby Stevens and everybody thinks Todd Harris (who is evenly rated with Delpit) is going to LSU deaux. Could Delpit be looking at the rosters/classes/Miles departure and flipping to ND? Couldn't happen right?

I wonder if Jaiden Cole has been on hold waiting for Carter and now Delpit to decide? He looks like he could be a Prosise type. Recruited as a safety with the ability to play offense. He's a very efficient runner playing big boy Louisiana ball. Averages 9.4 per carry as a wildcat QB on the #3 team in the state.

Also, might it be the WR position? Is Martin ready to make the call, yay or nay? Either you have him or you might get Calvin the same day. I'm not sure but they both could end up in SB(?) Haven't heard anything conclusive one way or the other if they'd take both.

Let me say this publicly... I hope the Tarik Black situation isn't another one of the CT boys being cute. Would anyone be shocked if Black commits to ND after not including them on his edit when you remember the Kaindoh he and Holmes pulled before Holmes' commitment? We then find out he did silent like many speculated early on. Doubt it and hope not.

Of course what everyone wants is a Foster Sarell commitment. Good luck.

If it's '18. I'm with GB, most likely Kuntz. Micah Jones would be my back up.

Thanks PA.

I don't get why Hicks would silent. Not saying he didn't. It's not like there are 2-3 CB's that could pop at any moment. If anything, it makes more sense for Thomas Graham to silent. Lets the program know he's committed and then grab the cameras at the All Star game.

he stated he was a man of his word and told the cal's db coach that he would visit BEFORE making a commitment and he plans to keep that promise. he said this in a 247 article before his visit...then loy made a comment which infered it was hicks who is the silent

Yes, that i saw that. Still don't understand it. I'd tell the Cal guys the truth. Part of being a man of your word is being open to them on the visit. I'm sure the Cal guys would appreciate not having their time wasted. This goes back to the NCAA's bastardization of the word commitment. Commit when you're ready and be ready to give up the other stuff at that time.

Silent commits should only be to stack the All Star game announcements for buzz.
