In PC Kelly said he came down wrong in practice. 2nd grade MCL. Definitely out for Michigan. Might be back for Purdue or we might wait the Bye Week. Out 2-3 weeks.

MCL is definitely better than ACL. I came back from an MCL in 4 weeks, and that was without a nice training staff or rehab equipment. 2-3 weeks is very doable.

If Farley starts I will franking throw up. He is the defensive Tommy Rees. No offense to Rees.

Saw the "no offense To Rees" and just lost it. Good laugh

Dammit, still trying to figure this stuff out

I will give credit where credit is due. Farley made some nice plays Saturday.

If he can't be ready to go next week, no point in rushing him back for Purdue. Hold him out til after the buy so he's 110% for the remainder of the season, because if was painfully obvious how much he was missed yesterday.

He did, but I also have a broken clock that's right two times per day. Take that for what it's worth...

Are we expecting him back for Syracuse? I'd like him to get a game under his belt before Stanford.

Also, how safe is his starting spot? Shumate has played great these last couple weeks.

I was wondering if he saw the field or not. I was at the game, so my attention to detail isn't what it typically is (not impressive by any means), but I didn't recall him ever leaving the sidelines. I wonder why this is? I guess he's going to see his first snaps against Stanford? Good thing their O leaves a lot to be desired.

He wasn't needed and they felt another week was more important to rehab than PT.

After missing the first 4 games of the season Captain Collinsworth made a tackle on his first play of the Stanford game.

He back? Nice. With all the distraction yesterday I'm totally oblivious.

Shumate fans might be "happy" about this, but Coach said that he wants Austin to play because Redfield and Shumate still make a lot of communication mistakes. It appears that we'll have to live with that though.

Freshman 2010 - Appeared in all 13 games

Sophomore 2011 - Appeared in all 13 games

Junior 2012- Shoulder Injury - was medical hardship approved instead of redshirt designation?

Senior 2013- Appeared in all 13 games

5th year 2014 - Appears in less than 25% if out for year

From my quick research: In cases of injury, the institution must show that the student-athlete suffered injuries or illnesses that prevented him
or her from competing for two seasons.

In, 2012
(A.)
Injured in preseason but cleared to play medically after the second game of the season. However, the student-athlete does not compete and utilizes the year as a "redshirt."

or

(B.)
Injured and medical hardship.

If (B.) and is out for the year a extension to a sixth year would seem very plausible.
Anyone with insight to 2012, if he was ever cleared to play, in rereading the thread he was going to be cleared to practice then back surgery?

Thanks

To continue question above.

If Collinsworth is out the rest of this year, he should be able to get a 6th year for medical shirt year.

But, my question is will ND invite him back?

If he is willing and the NCAA rules him able... then I can't see ND not taking him back... safety is prob THE position where depth is an issue next season.

According to Coach Kelly if Austin wants to sit out remainder of year and try for a medical 6th year that is what they will do. If Hardy is coming back after bye week then no reason for Austin to play again this year.

I don't know how he made it back on the field when he did, the kid is tough and proved he was worthy as captain through his actions even if he didn't get to spend much time out there due to those injuries. Hat's off to him.

I know we needed to move Austin to safety but I still have to wonder if the life of a receiver would have been a little easier on his body.

Who do we even have left at safety?
I count: Farley, Shumate and Hardy. Redfield's out right?

Shumate.

Kelly said Farley would get practice reps, Redfield was expected to be back, Hardy was in unchartered waters and to be determined by the administration regarding eligibility due to season, semester, and Honor Code finding variables.

I don't see how a guy with a broken or cracked rib plays this soon and takes a hit much less dishes them out but that's the medical staff's determination.

There's a thread on Safeties.
