agreed.... Barring Alabama losing a two last second field goals and missing out.. I think if we play anyone outside of the playoffs, we should be favored if healthy

Then we will get Bama in some bowl in the South... book it. I mean this is ND guys... some team that is a semi pro football team will get left out of the playoff and we will face them in our bowl IF we win enough games to get to a major bowl...

that's pretty much the ONLY thing I am absolutely certain of going into this season... lol

10-2 and I'm slightly irritated I don't think 9-3. I love shooting low and being pleasantly surprised but I really think this team has the talent and coaching to win 10 games. The two losses are toss-ups, we could beat all the ranked teams and lose to Miami.

Too early to tell what we have.

I'm in a Mark May mode with our defense... I'll believe it when I see it and not until then.

11-1. Would be surprised to go less than 10-2 and would be very happy but not shocked to see 12-0.

They SHOULD win every one of the first 11 games.

SC is a complete unknown as they can be a one loss or a 5 loss team depending on Helton's ability to put it together.

So 9-3 or less is complete sandbagging and you think the staff should be fired immediately.

10-2 is saying you know the Irish will lose a game they shouldn't.

11-1 Seems right. It gives you a cushion if SC is bad, it explains the loss if they are good.

I'll say 11.5 - .5 (11-1)

I'll up it to 12-0 if after watching a few SC games, if I don't think Helton can get SC into Top 6 shape for the last game.

Playoffs... Who knows? At 11-1 they still need help. History says they'd probably get that help but it's a real possibility to not get in at 11-1.

Bowl if no playoffs... Once again, who knows? I will say, odds are ND can't run into another OSU type not in the playoffs again. So I'll go win in a bowl.

Two 5 game win streaks sandwich a trap game loss to NC State and then Stanford

Get a small piece of revenge beating Clemson in the Orange, finishing 11-2

My head says 10-2/11-1, but my gut says 12-0. My gut is the bigger of the two, so it must know the most. 12-0 it is, bring on the Kool-Aide!

11-1 and hopefully that's good enough to get us in the playoff. Defense gives up a fair amount of points but top 15 in turnovers (with a little reversion to the mean from last year). We score a ton. One of DK and MZ gets injured and the other takes us to the promised land.

11-1. Just a stupid hunch. We could be in the championship game, or end up at a bottom tier bowl. It's cfb and anything could happen as we well know. I'm trying my best to be optimistic. I'd like to see us surprise ourselves at the end. We're a great football team, now it's just a question of whether we live up to potential. We can do it, it's just a question of will we do it.

I don't want to say 12-0, but I'm really struggling to find a loss.

at Texas: I just don't see it. New offense, true frosh QB and 38-3 last year.
MSU: new QB, we're at home, and BK has their number.
at NC State: they'll be jacked up but lost stud QB. Win if we bring C+ game
Stanford: biggest tossup IMO but they have a new QB and are on the road
Miami/VT: seem pretty similar to NC State. we win with B- game
at USC: this team could do just about anything but could be 7-4 and somewhat checked out with their schedule.

I guess 11-1, but it's going to take us being -2 in turnovers or have some ST issues to lose any game IMO.

10-2 with 2 loses between MSU, Stanford, and USC. We miss the playoffs and lose in a new years bowl game. Sound familiar?

These are the same three that worry me, especially the first two. I am going with 11-1 or 10-2.

I'm gonna go with 11-1. Other than maybe USC, Notre Dame is just simply better than everyone on that roster. They get 2 of their 3 toughest games at home so that is a huge plus. I'm giving them one loss (not sure who it will be to) because sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. If injuries don't rack up like they did the last 2 seasons, I think the chances of going 12-0 are better than going 10-2.

I went 10-2, I think we are talented enough to beat every team on our schedule but not enough experience to get through the entire season unscathed.

Okay, so for my first purely football related post since returning from my self imposed I.E. hiatus:

Screw it, I am going with 12-0. Can't bring myself to predict losses ever, so I am going all in on this team as usual.

That being said, if we drop some games I won't be too disappointed because I have a sick fetish of watching this place blow up when ND goes in the tank for any period of time.

I said 11-1, even though I don't have a specific guess as to who will hand us that one loss. There's no one on our schedule that I don't think our boys can beat, but I don't think we're going to be strong enough on defense to avoid one loss.

I will say, though, that I don't think it's gonna be Stanford that beats us. I think it's going to be easy to key on McCaffery this year, as their QB isn't scary and they have some serious replacing to do on their O-Line. I believe this is the year we actually bitch slap them around a little.

I think we lose to USC and either Stanford o Miami. And then we have a nail bitter that we win.

If these players are all suspended I am downgrading my prediction to 9-3.

I just voted mine at 9-3 for this very reason. I'm sure the players will show remorse and be hungry, yada yada but I don't think this team can afford this type of shit and still win double digit games.

I hope I'm wrong.

It just takes some luck on the injury front and all will be fine. We'll see how that goes tho.
2012 we survived with what, one injury to Lo Wood in camp and stayed healthy the rest of the year. College football is a game of attrition. We stay healthy, we win 11 or 12 games, we get dinged up everywhere like last year and it's probably 9 or 10. We'll see how it goes. I still have high hopes.
