Also, check the responses to Bertsch's tweet. My hate for Michigan and their asshat fans has been reignited. Good lord.

Not because they found someone better. Moss was in a fight or smoking pot or something and that is why Holtz could not take him. (can't remember which was ND and which was FSU.)

Remember it well as I'd assume every person claiming to be an Irish fan would. Some young guy asked a question, I answered being an Old People of IE card carrying member.

What a close out by the staff with this class. Obviously nothing is a done deal by any means but things are certainly trending in the right direction.

A close out of Kelly, Jones, and Robertson would be huge. Two legitimate 5* talents and a very talented LB from a talent rich state.

First, beating out Alabama for another former Alabama commit. Kuddos to the staff for going head to head with the SEC powerhouses for a 5* kid that everyone wanted.

Hard work FINALLY paying off in Fresno. I feel like every year the staff has put in a ton of work and reaped no rewards from Fresno. A whole lot of second place finishes for top talent in that area.

Jones is a kid that I like. I remember after the Sykes debacle a few years ago being pretty bummed after losing an athletic LB. I personally like Jones film better and it's against better competition. LSU has made a living off linebackers just like this.

Here's to hoping it doesn't all fall apart in the next few weeks.

I think they dodged a bullet with Sykes. I thought he could eventually be a player for the Irish but after the 5 tackle year he had at IU, I'm guessing he's not who I thought he was going to be. There's little doubt in my mind that Martini, Morgan or Coney would have been impact performers in Bloomington this year.

Old People of IE: Did Holtz do this too?

I followed recruiting fairly closely during the 1980s and don't recall anything like that. I'll ask my brother (ND class of 1983 and savant when it comes to ND football history) if he recalls anything.

Yep, a fight got his scholarship at ND pulled, and then pot got him kicked out of Florida State. He then ended up at Marshall. Little nugget from a source: during his OV to ND, the visiting recruits were given a talk about academics by an academic adviser. Moss interrupted and asked how long the talk was going to take.

yeah the ESPN 30 for 30 Rand University details all this. Moss' high school had a lot of ethnic tensions at the time:

On March 23, 1995, Moss backed a friend in a hallway fight against a white student who had allegedly used racist comments towards Randy's friend.[7] Moss was initially charged with a felony for kicking the student, but it was later reduced to a misdemeanor. On August 1, 1995, Moss pled guilty to two counts of misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 30 days behind bars at the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston, West Virginia. He served 3 days in jail starting that night and would be required to serve the remaining 27 days within the following 18 months, after he completed his freshman year in college.[8] Moss was expelled from DuPont and completed his education at Cabell Alternative School.[9]

It was the university that denied Randy's enrollment though, I believe Lou's hands were tied on the matter and he used his relationship with Bobby Bowden to make sure Randy got into FSU..

If we pull the two 5s on signing day coupled with Jones, our defensive haul would be:

**Caleb Kelly - OLB
Daelin Hayes - OLB
Khalid Kareem - SDE
Troy Pride Jr. - CB
Julian Okwara - WDE
Donte Vaughn - CB
**Jonathan Jones - OLB
Jalen Elliott - Ath
DJ Morgan - S
Julian Love - CB
Devin Studstill - S
Spencer Perry - S
Adetokunbo Ogundeji - WDE
Jamir Jones - OLB

Alot of talent in that list and the prospects who need some developmental time will get it.

Honestly, 1 serviceable DT and I'd take it over any defensive haul in the entire nation.

Yeah, for sure. Of course coupled with our last two hauls at DT, I'm sure the coaches were targeting the areas of need. It looks like we're in on some top level DT/NTs for 2017 after Jones is gone. Tillery will only be in his 2nd year. Cage, Bonner, Mokwuah, Dew-Treadway, Tiassum and Elijah Taylor.

We're not exactly hurting for players and if we were only gaining traction with developmental players, I think we have enough of those on the roster. I believe the coaches have absolutely maximized the positional needs in this class. Hopefully we can find 3-4 out of those 8 that can give us solid minutes. Jones and Tillery will be a tough combo, then likey Cage + one of the others should certainly help keep the others fresh and Cage has impressed me with his early play.

A lot to look forward to this spring/summer/fall.

Will edit the info under Robertson when I get back on my laptop. He's not visiting Bama this weekend. Take this as a good sign.

I'd rather he visit Bama (the school he decommitted from) rather than take the SAT again so he can finally get admitted to Stanford (the school that has eluded him). But hey, maybe that's just me.

Sources say Stanford isn't as in it as we thought, and that it would possibly take more than just an improved SAT score for him to get into Stanford.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Notre Dame will only land Jonathon Jones on signing day and even he isn't a forgone lock. The only realistic guys left on our board our Demetris Robertson, Jonathon Jones, Caleb Kelly, Jordan Fuller and Jeffrey Mcculoch.

Jonathon Jones: It's 50/50 with us and Michigan.
Robertson: I think he ends up staying and going to Georgia
Kelly: he is headed to Oklahoma we have all seen how this ends before
Fuller: He is headed to OSU.
Mcculoch: all Texas

If ND strikes out on all of them, and IYO there's a 50-50 chance that happens, someone not on that list will be signing with ND.

I think Hounshell's back if the NCAA grants the 6th regardless. No comment on Barrati.

Losing Luatua makes Hounshell pretty valuable to us next year. I'm not sure what Baratti brings to the table though.
Otherwise, we get Jones, maybe Robertson. That's it. Good class, even if it's not going to win many headlines.

Last time I saw an actual recruiting update for Jones it looked like he'd end up at ND and that he's not going to Michigan. UCF rounds out his top 3 if I'm not mistaken....I could definitely see ND ending up with Jones and striking out on the rest.
