Yeah, even with past transgressions, and comments about how he takes more heat because of his seniority, the fact that he was dealt with so swiftly is pretty telling.

His quote yesterday about it taking something serious to get dismissed said it all.

That was the "I'm not telling u Max had the gun, but Max had the gun."

I think the handgun was actually owned by someone else. At first I thought it may have just been left in the car.

But now it was pretty clearly 'borrowed,' and placed there by someone going on the road trip.

I don't think Kelly would have said a thing about any of the other four if the story wasn't solid. One player had the pot, and the gun. Maybe he was on a secret mission . . .

My guess is that the charges against the others will be reduced to traffic, or dismissed.

If that wild assed guess is accurate, then I think the university would be satisfied for a little community service, and no game suspension.

Interesting. It seems the staff chose the captains and they were not chosen by the team.

Staff submits names to administration for approval then staff decides on who will be captains. Coaches know full well who other team members look to for leadership. Not sure having team vote would be any different.

Why do you think that?

I'm on board with Whiskey on this. And BK confirmed that if you can read between the lines.

Not that they were without fault but glad to hear some of the young guys in Kelly's mind ( if he was making the decision-which he's not ) would be eligible for Texas--to me it means they were where they shouldn't have been but not the main issue of bad-other than going down the road with a couple of irresponsible teammates. If they were all smoking I still have a major problem-unless they have a medicinal fire up right-just kidding.

If there was a year to dismiss your starting FS, I guess this was the year to do it for Notre Dame.

Is this the easiest schedule in the BK era?

Depends on how quickly VT picks up Fuentes' offense. If they click early and get rolling, that game suddenly becomes a big challenge later in the year.

If not, this schedule is a bit friendlier than 2012.

Definitely agree here with VT. Same with Miami. Miami has a decent amount of talent and Brad Kaaya. Add a pretty good coach (and HUGE upgrade) in Richt to that and they could be pretty good come mid-season.

2010 was pretty easy. We arguably should've won 10 games even tnough it was BK's first year.

I doubt it. Max was largely responsible for this entire incident, and he's already been dealt with (regarding NDFB at least). That's why Kelly is sticking his neck out for the other four. So as long as Fulton County doesn't decide to f*ck them over, they ought to receive nothing harsher than a plea bargain for community service.

Sucks for Max (but his own fault really). Great news for the other four and the team!

You can count on at least one new QB playing at an AA level against ND...it happens every year (seems like).

Well, hopefully that QB belongs to NC State or Army or some team where we can handle the other 10 guys no problem.

NC State has athletes...I see them as a trap game based on Scheduling. ND pulls a Boston College '15 performance and they'll lose to NC State.

Someone (I think OFD) did a breakdown of NCState and said they're going to be absolutely abysmal this year, so not so fast

Agree. They are going through a huge transition. They will be real bad. I don't see this as a trap game.

NC State is garbage. Period.

I feel like I have had to say what you just did a bunch of times this offseason. If we lose to NC State, we got bigger problems. They are a bad football team. The scariest game on our schedule is MSU when they come off a bye where their last opponent was Furman at home. This team has essentially an entire offseason to prepare, get a warm up and bye, then get to try to get their revenge for Kelly's dominance over a coach who had a heart attack last time they beat us. That's when we find out what we are about.

QB is Ryan Finley...so he'll have the same OC as he had at Boise State last year before he got hurt. He was a first year starter last year...wasn't great, but he won't be a first year starter again. ...and had a year of coaching from our very own Prodigy QB coach before he came to ND. Finley has two senior receivers who can play. They have a senior running back with some game as well. Offensive line loses one guy. Yes its a new O coordinator, but the QB is usually the long pole in that tent...and that prolly won't be an issue here.

This game will be headed toward mid season, so NC State's line, Running back, QB and receivers should be fairly functional.

They have a dangerous return game with hines (all ACC sprinter) and he has some wiggle and the jets.

They are returning 8 starters to a D that was meh.

ND hits this game just ahead of Stanford and Miami...

The Game is at NC State...

ND is the first marquee game on their schedule...

If ND plays here like they did against Virginia or BC in 2015, they stand a real good chance of getting beat IMHO.

Serious question, as I can't remember: Since Philip Rivers graduated, has NC State ever been better than mediocre?
I suppose they could beat us, if we play like poo. But I've gotten to the point where I have a decent amount of faith in Brian Kelly not actually losing those games. (Northwestern 2014 aside, but that was kind of a freak show).
I agree with Wooly. MSU is our most important game. It'll show us what kind of team we have and sset the tone for the rest of the season.
