Solid win last night, but you can tell we're going to be in trouble against teams that have size.

Yep....anyone with a 4/5 with size and/or athleticism will eat us up. Geben is very much needed when this team gets to conference play (and Nova/Purdon't) just to have a constant defensive and rebounding presence. Bonzie is fun to watch on offense, but he is generally a liability on defense. In the middle third of the game yesterday, it was pretty embarrassing how much Pemsl -- a true frosh -- beat Bonzie down the floor and posted him up like he was some YMCA hack. There is no way Pemsl should score 18 points.

This season has been very fun thus far, but I am still cautious about this team. I think the Nova and Purdon't games will tell us much more than what we have seen thus far.

I'm interested to see the Villanova game. It's going to be like a pick-up game at the Y - bunch of guys 6'6 and under running around jacking up shots.

Purdue will be the game that may show us what we can really do against size. They are just big, but what I've seen, they shoot like a typical Purdue team. I'm not sure I even put Geben on the floor until Haas comes in (I'm not positive he starts).

Yep. The Nova game will tell me what opponent athleticism does to the offensive production. As good as it has been thus far, I don't see anyone on the floor that can take their man 1-1 consistently. We had that recently in Djax and Grant. Passing is the great equalizer though and this team does it well. I am eager to see what happens.

Looked at the Kenpom ratings today....his ratings are not too high on ND's competition up to this point.

Opponents adj off eff - 313
Opponents adj def eff - 291
overall strength of schedule - 303

Those numbers will change dramatically with Nova and Purdon't.

Nova - #2 adj off eff and #8 adj def eff
Purdon't - #19 adj off eff and #25 adj def eff

We will know much more about the Irish after those two games.

Nova doesn't have much size, and Purdue's bigs don't seem too dominant. I'm thinking we can go 1-1, but I agree it's tough to know much about ND right now. The fact we are winning easily makes me optimistic that we are really a top-40 team and maybe top-25.

Honestly, I had no faith in this team... If we got a top 8 seed in NCAA tournament, I will be pumped... At least through early part, this team has been fun to watch

Nova about to be number 1 when we play them next saturday

I actually like how we match up against Nova compared to Purdue. We have 2 or 3 guys that can guard Hart, and I'm not sure Booth will be back yet. Jenkins can do a bunch, but I'm not scared of an undersized 4.

It's going to be a fun game to watch. I don't think we win, but I bet it's close. I think Bonzie is going to go crazy. If we win, Matt Ryan will have to be a part. This is a game where he matches up and can play some extended minutes (and we'll need every point we can get).

You guys better forget Nova and worry about the #39 Mastodons tomorrow night. The Irish are officially on upset alert.

Good thing ND doesn't have the #34 Valpo Crusaders on the schedule anymore. That'd be a guaranteed loss! If you get a chance to see Valpo play, check out Alec Peters play. Best college player in Indiana, should be a 1st Team AA this year. Will avg 25 & 10 as 6-9, 3-4 who can stroke it from 3.

Also, hats off to Swarbrick for putting together that schedule. Not one true road game until conference play begins. 11 home games and 4 neutral sites. lol

ND currently has played two teams in the RPI top 100, and only one higher than 92nd in the RPI. RPI wise, IPFW will be the second best team ND has played this year. NDCrusader is correct in that IPFW could pose a threat, if they are firing on all cylinders like they did against IU. If they play like they did against Illinois State, this game will be over after 30 minutes.

Guaranteed loss? Because of one guy? Good thing Notre Dame are equal to or better than at the other 4 positions.

IPFW is good but I think you're way underrating this Notre Dame team. They don't rely one particular guy to deliver like they have in past seasons; Beachum, Colson, Vasturia, and now even Ferrell is very capable of delivering in the clutch. For that reason, I think that makes this dangerous in a different way than years past.

Also, Swarbrick scheduled a very similar schedule in 2014 during the first of two Elite 8 seasons. Playing an easy OOC schedule with a few Power 5 schools sprinkled in there might be just what this team needs.

IPFW beating Indiana was huge for us IMO. If we lose it won't be due to overlooking them.

I agree with Arrow. This team is incredibly versatile and I certainly would not consider Valpo a sure loss. Fort Wayne will be a challenge but I still like the Irish at home. With so many scorers this team could beat nearly anyone on a good night. Unfortunately, without much presence inside we will also have a tough time against teams with good size and length. This team will be fun to watch all year and I would not be the least bit surprised if this team is very competitive in ACC play.

Norte dame needs to stay hot to keep this streak going against a tough 3 game skid. Currently #7 in 3pt %, while also leading the nation with a ridiculous .858 team free throw %.

We're not going to set any records there, but we are much better defensively than I expected this year.

27 point lead cut to 9. Heck of a way to not collapse and finish with a 15 point win. I think IPFW is a decent team and this is a nice win but like everyone else thinks Saturday will be the real test.

I'd also like to see Brey's record vs #1, it's got to be above.500 at the very least.

I thought this would be a down year but Brey proved me wrong and has his best start at Notre Dame. That guy does not get enough credit.

Idk about above .500 but it is definitely better than almost any other coach.

If we played Nova in our gym we would win but I don't think we will in this situation. I hope we keep it close enough to get some national respect.
