I loved the way he literally engulfed Folston with both arms and drove him into the ground. No one is escaping that tackle.

Oh, my god! IF HE LITERALLY ENGULFED FOLSTON, did they find anything left of him? Or will they have to do surgery? What a terrible injury. Did he swallow him? How long will both players be out?

Good spring practice.

Best surprise: WRs are even better than I expected

Biggest disappointment: Pass protection

I think that reading the whole thing in context, the defense looked far from great because they were robbed of their sacks, and BVG wasn't running the regular defense. They had between three and five sacks and with tackles for loss, the defense stopped the offense over a dozen times behind the line of scrimmage. He started dialing things up in the second half, getting in the quarterback's heads and look what happened to the offense. I think more than EG being anything less, I think that if you re-watch the spring game you will see that he threw more at EG than at MZ. And on one play you saw the freak CJ is. Wait until other teams see him this fall.

Further, I think BVG had the offensive line hopping with what little he was doing. I saw three times an inside guy took a route across, and followed in outside of the end who crashed hard, and that second guy had free pickings on the quarterback. May have resulted in death or dismemberment in game situations. And not only did Romeo have a great day at everything, Romeo and Ishaq both were awesome at crashing down and freeing up their trailer.

I think the coaches may be conspiring to drive legs into a qb controversy, just to push EG to a place where he snorts and shits fire from the get go. Regardless, I am wondering if we have a guy that can truly get into QB's and OC's heads, with Brian VanGorder. If we do, I can't wait, because the game that will be apparent is for (fuck) Michigan.

That play where Jaylon beat Folston to the edge was fucking awesome.

Yeah, it looked like he sunk in and was out of position and then he realized, "he's bouncing it outsdie", then he took off like he was shot out of a cannon. Jaylon is going to be a great player for us this year, let's hope he stays healthy and he helps elevate the game of everyone around him.

Did we win? lol

Pass protection is usually takes a little longer to gel, so I'm not too worried about it just yet. Lot's of time before game 1.

I wasn't as concerned w/ the pass protection as most, I thought both Zaire and Golson were holding onto the ball way to long. Just my observation from the stands.

Good point. And here is another. The O-line of '14 was split up today. Harrell was snapping to Golson. I forget who else was on his o-line, but Malik had the better beef. Makes a difference, especially for a quarterback working on his timing.

I think it is a conspiracy. With a full one offense, either quarterback would have stroked all day.

One of my takeaways is that... as good as CJ might be in the slot (and he could be great)... I can't help but think he + Max should be the starting safeties. You watch him toast Collinsworth and just have to think if that's him playing defense instead that no WR is getting that open. I get why the position change was made, but my gosh someone better step up at safety soon. With the Baratti injuries I'm looking at Hardy/Shumate to make a move.

I think Shumate stepping up is what ND fans have to hope for. Him and Redfield back there gives ND the most talented secondary we have had in a long time IMO. Hope he can get it all together upstair.

Hopefully it's Shumate. He looked pretty good in coverage deep today, which is where he struggled most last season.

The Smith/Slaughter/Walls/Blanton secondary was really legit. Especially considering how Walls has proved himself in the NFL.

This one could be even better though if Luke/Redfield/Shumate develop. They all have the physical abilities.

I know that he seems locked in at corner, but if Luke/Butler make big strides this summer, any chance we see Riggs opposite Redfield at Safety? I like Collinsworth, but that play with Prosise was as weak as it gets.

Top 3 performers for me were
1. Malik
2. CJ
3 Luke

Rochelle looks every bit ready

Hardy and Farley will be behind baratti and butler when healthy

Daniels better have his shit together and firing on all cylinders when he returns because we got soooo much depth now.

CJ is my official breakout player on offense this year.

Tough to evaluate d as they were held back but Romeo with his ears pinned back thrills me.

Golson better have a super fall....And ah see the field.

Jaylon might have 12 + sacks with Luke and Russell

Pabst is so delicious with a cigar after cutting the grass!

Collinsworth is perfect for Special teams but to put it nicely he has no businesses starting at Safety

I'm suprised by the collinsworth hate. I was at the game and I had the impression he played a great game.

When you have an obvious and admitted bias, well, you will see what you want to see.

We spent the entire spring talking about how the spring game should be taken with a giant grain of salt, and now suddenly Molique should be the starter LOL.

I'll bet an entire year's subscription to Irish Envy that Golson will be the starter the entire year barring injury. And if you need further proof, see the Alabama game. (Or check out the play where MZ got pressured, panicked and threw the ball 'away' for a pick that was called back for a sack,)

It's a LOT easier to play QB against a vanilla defense where you can't get touched. MZ had several plays where he should have gotten rid of the ball but didn't and would have taken sacks. As he matures he'll get better at that, but I'll take the experienced talented QB who has already won several big games over us guessing that the rookie ready.

Yeah but would you risk your subscription to USC sites ? (Italics).

Told you they'd air it out :).

Golson was the starter the moment he was re-admitted. This 'position battle' that BK has alluded to in regards to the QB position is text book.

We've heard about it all spring, but I was really impressed with the arm strength of both QBs. Malik threw straight gas a couple of times. Good to see Ev heave it, too, even if he was a little bit off.

I am 95% sure Golson starts, but wont it be great knowing we have a #2 that can threaten a defense with swag. I bet Kelly will play him a few series as well.

I finally got to watch the highlights! Looked pretty damn good on offense today. Malik really impressed, but EG is proven so I do not think there is anything changing at that position. I do think Malik will get to play this year quite a bit though, and get plenty of game time reps.

Bryant is certainly the special talent we all thought he was. CJ needs more targets, amazing athlete. Robinson, Fuller, and Brown all showed out as well. WR talent is stupid good. I probably just regurgitated a lot of posts so I'm sorry if that's the case, but overall I really like the progression I am seeing from almost everybody. Player development is so much more noticeable under Kelly dating back to Holtz to see anything comparable, it's ridiculous.

You guys are crazy. There is zero percent chance Golson is not the starter, obvious barring an injury or suspension etc
