Defensive Depth Chart - 3/3

Defensive Depth Chart - 3/3

DE Day Hounshell Matuska
NG Jones Utupo Dickerson
DE Williams Rochell Trumbetti

ROLB: Okwara Rabasa
MIKE: Moore Deeb
WILL: Schmidt Randolph
DOLB: Smith Turner

CB Russell Farley Atkinson
CB Luke Brown Kinlaw
S Redfield Shumate Hardy
S Collinsworth Onwualu Baratti

This was what they lined up in the few times it was 3 man front according to 247. Mostly it was a four man front though with:

DE: Okwara Rabasa
DT: Day Hounsell Matuska
DT: Jones Utupo Dickerson
DE: Williams Rochell Trumbetti

And then the same secondary

Obviously Grace, Springmann and Butler were out and is Baratti not 100%?

He was putting some heat on those passes in the video posted. There's a noticeable difference between Zaire and Golson in terms a ball velocity. Zaire's isn't bad but Golson has a cannon.

You got that right. It looks like as soon as he releases the ball it takes off like an ICBM. He'll be able to fit some into tight places with an arm like that.

Interesting note, our dear friend Jojo has taken to II as well to try and convince those ND faithful. All joking aside Zaire looked pretty good in his own right. Has shortened up his release a little and could afford to do so a little more. Looks fluid and if Golson were to get hurt I'd be comfortable with him playing.

I thought MZ looked pretty good too. Hopefully he is a very capable back-up and even pushes EG.

Very concerned with our front 7, but really like our 2ndary. Offense could be incredible, especially if DD makes it back with no trouble. Can't wait for this offense.

If Golson sticks around for an extra year, 2015 will be the year to win it all IMO.

If someone has a minute, could you embed video you're talking about? I haven't seen it posted.

I might be remembering wrong but I thought Baratti was getting held out for spring ball from contact.

Let the overanalyzation of the 3 minute clips begin!

Sure, I'll start.

First off, thanks Lucci for the video. Malik's 'zip' looks really good, IMO, it's just that watching him and Golson side by side, although the velocity difference is unnoticeable to me, his slow release is what gives a big advantage to Golson.

Also, Greg Bryant might have the quickest feet of any of our RBs, including Amir. His footwork looks incredible. Don't get me started on the calf and quad development...

Like I said, I'm all in on Golson. He will have a great OL, experience, and his release looks electric, and he's plenty fast and has great arm strength.

Anyone else think Golson's release, combined with his arm strength is freakishly good? Easily one of the tops in the country IMO.

Beautiful, high release point on the throw. This is very important, especially for a short QB as it allows him to avoid more deflected passes by the DL. Great example of the improved mechanics with the individual coaching received while away.

Reps to Pandfan, he was the one that originally posted it this morning.

He's always had a strong arm, so it's tough to tell just from the clip whether that's improved. But it does look like he may have cured his release-point problem, which was what plagued him in '12.

I didn't fully understand what Kelly was saying when he addressed that in his presser ... Something about how he would play enough to be fully evaluated but might wear a red jersey in the spring game or something. Basically, I don't think he is held out of all contact but they will be a little careful with him

Was there ever a winter workout video this year? I remember they've done them in past years. TIA.

Listen to the impact difference between MZ and EG at around the 2:06 mark of the Irish Illustrated video. The sound it makes when it hits the dudes hands is noticeably different.
Very exciting!

That defensive line looks LIGHT. Hoping Springmann can play. And, hopefully the freshman can at least play goal line.
