sorry if has already been said and i'm not trying to start rumors, but my ann arbor buddy who let me know about neal and ferguson before i was able to get on here today, told me that he is hearing shumate may be gone.

agreed makes no sense for a guy who played so much and probably was going to start this year to leave, but that's what he's hearing....REALLY hope that's not the case ,but with BK saying today's transfers may not be the last only makes me wonder

plus didn't see him in any of the highlights, though that might not be a huge indicator

Did he tell u before everyone else knew that Neal and Ferguson would transfer?

WHOA now that would be terrible. I would be REALLY disappointed if Shumate were to leave. Way more than Davonte or Ferg. Shumate showed real flashes in his limited action last year, unlike either Davonte or Ferg.

But I agree with you that it seems unlikely. Shumate's been getting reps with the first team next to Farley. He'd have to be really unhappy to leave, or there would have to something we don't know about.

A lot of people have brought up the fact that BK said there might be more transfers, but after watching the video of his remarks I didn't feel like he was referring to anyone or anything specific. I can see why people thought that, but my impression was that he was just speaking generally; i.e. transfers are part of the game, like injuries, and you have to expect them. But who knows.

The Shumate rumor started from one person on the Rivals main board (yes, that cesspool) trying to poke at Michigan and South Carolina fans.

Sampson just talked to his father and he said he was happy at ND and was in line to grab a starting spot. No reason to leave.

Agreed. I really saw it as more matter of fact. They weren't here for practice, we are moving on. I thought he seemed pretty at peace with it all.

The news about Grace has me fired up as well. And the look on BK's face while he was talking about Grace made me think he was holding back some praise as he didn't want to reveal too much.

From what I have heard, STRONGLY, Kelly is holding back information on Grace, Prosise, Robinson, Onwaulu, and a few others. There are some strong successes Williams getting fifteen reps per game at DE, Utupo, Councell, Okwara, and more.

I don't think Kelly was bummed about the team or where it was. I think his reaction was all about disappointment in the decisions the players made. That with TJ's post tell you everything you need to know . . .

I don't think Kelly was talking about this year when he was talking about more additions and more subtractions and that whole part. I think he was talking more in general in the future.

no he didn't

that was the first of me hearing it though. i hadn't been on here since last evening, but he stays pretty up to date with stuff over there. not that he has great inside scoop for ND news, but he usually doesn't BS me.

That's much better to hear.

Agreed, that's consensus from all the people that would know something.

Shumate? Really? Come on people. No. That doesn't make any sense at all. In fact, he's probably one of the lowest in terms of probability to transfer.

If you want to list other high probability guys there are at least a half dozen I can think of off the top of my head... but that's a pretty fruitless endeavor.

Regardless, this is why you have to over-recruit by a couple guys. If you magically get no transfers/defections (NEVER happens) then you bring back one less Graduate Student at worst case scenario.

Remember for this 2012 class that now sits at 12 legitimate offense or defense players, we turned down Tommy Schutt, Joe Bolden, and Ken Ekanem. Wrap your mind around that for a second. And probably others I'm forgetting.

Yuri Wright, but that was really his fault. Also Standifer depending on what story you believe.

When you consider the reality of that class today to its potential, it rivals the disappointment of the 2012 "Cal Gang".

Here's a picture of dshans, OMM, bogs, and NDFanSouthwest with the ol' rumor mill:

Not sure why I'm included in that rag-tag group of ne'er-do-wells, but I'm with GITF ... it's definitely a gather 'round the still for some poteen portrait. I'm there to tend bar, I guess. Stoke the fire, pour the drinks and lend a sympathetic ear to those with something to say.

There will be another football player to transfer from Notre Dame in the future. Just like BK said. Doesn't mean it will be this year, next year, whenever. Someone else will.

I think that's the most logical inference to draw from his statement.

The other logical inference is that Brian Kelly believes Notre Dame will continue to win football games despite said inevitable transfer. Which is a healthy outlook.
