Do you think NFL fans tuned into ESPN every day to get their daily Tim Tebow news? Fans didn't want that, ESPN was force feeding it to everyone.

If it wasn't getting huge ratings (both from people who loved him and people who hated him), they would have stopped. They're a business and there's a reason that they're making gazillions.

Okay. That's fine. I think it's a common model. Provide the consumer what they want and they will continue to consume it.

Exactly.
Also people act like journalists/broadcasters shouldn't do things to "sell papers" or "get ratings." I don't know what business you work in, but most of them desire to serve more customers than they did last month. Selling papers/getting ratings is how these organizations make money.

Obviously you need to be responsible. You can hurt your brand by turning people off with too much of the wrong kind of coverage. And that happens. There's a balance to be struck.

But I suspect ESPN's Tebow-mania (and to some degree Te'o-mania) is driven more by a desire to attract casual/non-fan viewers than by what serious NFL fans "want." I also suspect it's driven by the need to feed this monster they've (and we fans) have created of multiple 24-hour sports news channels that often have nothing much to do but talk about the NFL all week. I also think the NFL is insanely over-analyzed, but that's another topic.

Regardless Te'o is going to be a circus no matter where he winds up, until maybe the 3rd week of the season, and then he'll be just another football player.

Is Mathieu going to go in the second round? I thought most "experts" had graded him as a 3rd rounder.

Whoever takes him needs to institute monthly drug tests as part of his contract. I think he'll be a steal anywhere in the third round pending his "addiction."

That, and instead of cash they should pay him strictly in Wal-Mart gift cards.

“@Jeff_McLane: Lane Johnson said the black bears he wrestled were on his uncle's ranch. No grizzlies. He said he may have helped blocking technique.”

Lane Johnson is the biggest hick ever. No idea how he has a super hot wife. Not to mention he is overrated

Like "everyone knew he would go top 10 but shouldn't have" overrated, or "nobody expressed any interest whatsoever and the Bears wasted a first round pick on a guy they would have gotten at 50th" overrated?

No way would Long have been there at 50. Kiper had him as the 25th player on the board. That's not much of a stretch.

Maybe he'll be a total bust. Who knows.

I don't hate the pick (line sucks, Long is a lineman), just when it was made. I digress, like you say, wait and see.

I don't know if anyone has said this or not, but Mel Kiper last night was on absolute fire; he was frothing at the mouth, a literal frenzied dervish of draft information. The Hair-Domer lives for the live draft coverage.

Also, bummed that Eifert went to CIN. CIN is like OAK, its where a players career gets lost, and eventually circles the drain. I hope Tyler Eifert can get to a better organization before he passes the event horizon and we never hear of him again.

CIN/OAK = Black Hole

Sure. I was pretty pumped about the offensive possibilities with Eifert added to the mix, but we've been punishing Cutler for the past few years. It's time to finally protect him. I appreciate that emphasis.

He really needs a steady therapist more than anything.

Honestly, I would be pumped if my team drafted Tyrann. His drug problems were linked to weed and synthetic weed. He was smoking like most college kids were, and it clearly did not impact his play in the slightest. If he has other issues, then ya, I wouldn't want him. But if he was just a college kid being a college kid, then I still don't see what the big deal is. He was a stud for 2 years.

His depression is the problem.
