Good write at BGI highlighting the frshman defensive players. Apparently Rochelle did 26 reps at 225 which for comparison is better than the 25 FSU's Bjoern Werner did at the combine. Pretty impressive.

So I was thinking our future OL through my head. Here's what I got.

2013: Z-Mart, Watt, N-Mart, Hanratty, Lombard

2014: Stanley, Hanratty, N-Mart, Lombard, Elmer

2015: Stanley, Hanratty, N-Mart, Bivin, Elmer

That 2015 OL could be insanely good.

So Hanratty loses his starting role?

Replace Montelus with Bivin and we're golden. Stanley and Elmer are going to be amazing

Seriously? That's brilliant.

Yep. My guys said the staff didn't explain it, they assumed it was for motivation, but I didn't talk to them long, the team got shut down early tonight. It fits right in with the BCS championship game on the schedule in the locker room and painted on the side of the auditorium in the gug. They're not being shy about it at all.

You're gonna have to move Lombard inside in 2014 IMO if you want to have the best OL with both Elmer and Stanley starting at OT.

I'm alright with JAtkinson and JBrown. The guy who I want to move on is Massa-Not because I don't like him, but because I feel he adds nothing to the depth of the team. A converted QB? the only thing he has going for him is his height.

After reflection, I also feel better about Rees. The coaches know his capabilities and will play to his strengths. they have had quite some time to develop a plan of action with him and I feel they have shown the ability to adapt (at least after learning the option-haha).

Feel good about WR with the progress of DD, last years flash with Brown, and the rooks of Onawualala and Robinson.

RB-yes, as many are I am concerned with GA3, but with Cam pushing him and the studs of both young freshmana RB (both over 200!!) I feel good.

Overall, I am neck deep in Kool-Aid that has a slight greenish tint. Could be the Shamrock Series color!

I want to bring this back for another go round. What about John Turner? How is he doing, anybody have anything on that?

And as far as Luke Massa, I understand your point FBolt, but what about this; with Kelly making it clear that Zaire was staying with the starters, we are short a prep team QB? How about Massa? We face a couple of big guys this year, does he have enough at QB and does he have little enough at WR?

Are you guys ready for some (camp) football?!

I'm very excited or practices to start. I'm worried about the offensive production but hopefully were in for some pleasant surprises.

Unless you move one or both of them in and keep Lombard at tackle with someone like Mike McGlinchey.

Every report I have seen is that McGlinchey is for real. Remember Matt McGlinchey is an ace on kick and punt teams because he is so fast. This kid is an insane athlete as are seven other up and comers. That is why I think that ND will break with the wisdom of this board which says you pick five and stick with them on the offensive line. Above having the talent to play and keep fresh, hopefully avoiding some serious injuries, I think that this is the beast that feeds the recruiting engine. People want to play for Harry because he builds them and he plays them. And they succeed. I try to keep conservative with my OL thoughts but I cannot see less than eight playing down the road.

I think Rochell will be huge for us down the road........remember, he didn't do camps last year, and if memory serves me right, was he invited to any of the after season games since he didn't do the camp circuit???? He committed to us early and shut it down from there, so not many people got to take a look at him, but I think he's going to be a big time player @ ND!!

Wouldn't it be nice if he pushed Jones, so the Irish get a twofer?

I have been saying this kid could play for us early. I hope he does.

The best thing is he would be another in the line of Tuitt and Nix that they have that humility and work ethic.

Can't wait to see more on him.

Well, what-the-heck, pot-stirring:

This year DLine: Day/ Nix/ Tuitt #1 in nation;
This year seconds: Springmann/ Schwenke/ Rochell as good as any #2s;
This year thirds: Utupo/ Stockton/ Hounshell [if healthy enough].

Yep, I left "someone" out.

2014: firsts: Rochell/ Day/ Springmann;
Seconds {& thirds}: .... probably Matuska and a bunch of freshmen.
Speculation: Okwara in Springmann's spot if Romeo "graduates" to DE.

I'm doing this off the top of my head so I'll be forgetting somebody, but this is only off-season pot-stirring so..........

This year's OLine: ZMart/ Watt/ NMart/ Hanratty giving way to Stanley/ Lombard
This year's seconds: Elmer[but training at both tackles]/ Bivin/ Hegarty/ Stanley giving way to Hanratty/ "McGlinchey", but preserved.
This year thirds: .....? we are not yet deep at tackles/ Heggie/ Harrell/ Montelus/ McGovern [though projected for guard].

2014: firsts: Elmer/ Bivin[though cross-training at center]/ NMart/ Stanley/ Lombard.
Seconds: Frosh/ Montelus/ Hegarty/ Hanratty/ McGlinchey
Thirds: Frosh/ McGovern/ Harrell/ Frosh/ Frosh ......... OLine roster finally loaded.

No ill-will towards Jones nor Hanratty, I just haven't heard enough "these are BCS-caliber lineman-style vibes" about either of them yet. Obviously I wish both to be All-Americans, then we could sit back on saturdays wondering how big a rout we'll ultimately put on our opponent. I WANT to be completely wrong about both of them.

Well, the reports on Hanratty from the spring were ok. He certainly got a lot of reps. But I agree that it does sound like other guys are passing him by.

I wholeheartedly agree regarding Jarron Jones. I'm afraid some people on the board are setting themselves up to be disappointed with him by putting a lot of high expectations on him. True, there have been some isolated rumblings that he's starting to learn what kind of effort and nastiness you have to give between the whistles at the BCS level, but I haven't heard where he has really come around yet. At this point, the way everyone is raving about Rochell, I'm thinking that Springmann/Schwenke/Rochell could very likely be the #2 DL. Hopefully Jarron will prove me wrong in fall camp.

I hope he's All-American. From some of the comments about his laid-back attitudes, I would not be surprised if "everybody" jumped him. I don't WANT this to be true, but i have heard less positive commentary about effort, "wanting it" etc. in his case than practically anyone on the team. The guy's measurables are Tuitt-like, but so far that's all that is.

Jarron Jones is someone that there will be disagreements about until he actually does something --- like Moore, or Filer, or Deion Walker, --- each of these guys is a different situation, but it would be hard to evaluate any of them as a success despite all-world talent. I feared that Davaris might "moody" his way in that direction, but the vets got on his butt and he's righted the ship. Some of the vet DLine has gotten on Jones' case. Let's see how he responds. We have a LOT of hungry players wanting those reps.

I don't see how based on the '2s' for 2013 you listed you can say that group will be as good as any in the nation.

OMM, you think the staff will keep Elmer (or whoever turns out to be the elite tackle of the group) on the right side to protect Golson's or Zaire's blind side instead of the left side?

My opinion is worth very little, but Elmer is getting RAVES and has since he walked on campus in the winter. I feel that Kelly/ Hiestand will want to preserve McGlinchey's year, so Elmer will be the emergency replacement for both ZMart and Lombard --- they really sound like they want to keep Lombard at RT.

So, when ZMart goes to the pros, Lombard will still be there at RT with years of experience. It will be LT that is vacant. Elmer will step in and begin blocking the brains out of our opponents' DEs for three years. McGlinchey, the Mad Mountain, will wait for Lombard to "retire" and take over RT then.

The interesting "problem" to me is how Kelly/ Hiestand are going to get our five-star 2014 frosh playing time with All-American quality guys like Elmer and McGlinchey just in front of them? The wealth of power coming in this OLine is staggering.
