Notes from BK's interview:

BK called someone "Chris Martin"?

Very positive on freshmen RB, particularly Bryant

Daniels a "BCS wr". Excited about depth and diversity of WR core (and TE's).

Didn't sound overly optimistic on Rees, but says he is more "mobile" and has done better keeping the play alive. Better with fade. Gradual improvement in all aspects.

Battle for 4th DE position. Kona has been much better this fall (than Spring). Likes were we are with DE's. Jarron Jones, Kona, and Rochell are battling for 3-5 DE positions. No leaders, wont be decided for a while.

Overall, some of the best, most competitive practices. Fast football. Hopes it translated to games. Loves depth.

Question on Shumate. Still learning how to line people up, still competition back there. Talked about best players vs. best players in the scheme. Will change scheme to best players, when he knows best 22 are. Gifted player with competition. Barratti, Farley, Hardy, Collingsworth, Redfield ("has really shown up").

Why all the hate on Ishaq getting blown up but no love for Koyack making the block? Koyack was almost as heralded as Ishaq out of HS.

If he has trouble carrying the extra weight, he will not be as dominate of a player (Nix will undoubtedly agree). If he regresses, the defensive will suffer. He and Nix are the key to the entire defense. If they are not dominate, the defense will be slightly above average, at best.

How is one "dominate" anyway? I am familiar with how one can "dominate" or be "dominant," but I'm unclear on how a person would go about being dominate.

Anyways, don't worry about Tuitt. If it weren't for a once in a generation guy at SCar, he'd be the best defensive player in the country. If your biggest concern is Tuitt, you should be buying your NCG tix tonight.

Assuming Tuitt is overweight, and it appears he is, it's a concern. Sure, he'll shed some weight now but fall camp isn't meant to get players in shape, it's designed to make you a better football player. If you come to camp out of shape, it's hard to improve as a player. Carrying the extra weight will also increase the likelihood of injury too.

Having a groin injury isn't really an excuse either. It's simple - if you can't burn the calories b/c of an injury, push yourself away from the table. He's got millions of reasons to dominate this year. Hopefully he's ready.

Or, maybe they want him bigger to be a better 2-gap run stuffing DE in our 3-4. Then, have him and Nix inside when we go 4 down.

It was either the II or ISD video.

If it's the first play of the ISD video, that's just a GREAT block by Koyack. I agree with your point that Koyack deserves some credit for that.

And you want to see someone get blown up? Check out Tuitt at the 1:37 mark of the ISD video. That's two freshmen pushing our All-American around.

Only 21 days until we stop over-analyzing practice video!

Thanks for correcting me. I'd ask dshans to tutor me but I don't have the vbucks to pay him.

How well did Nix and Teo play when they were overweight?

Definitely possible. In the few reps I saw him he looked uncomfortable. He has three tech written all over him at that size.

Tuitt said he's in perfect shape.

Nothing to worry about.

It's also a straight-up 1-on-1 which is a different position and technique than Ishaq would use rushing the outside shoulder on the edge. You'd like to see him engage and get off the block but it's a bit different than an in-game situation. Not to mention, it's 1-2 reps and there are hundreds we haven't seen.

It is only a couple reps so we shouldn't make to much of it. But it is an in game situation that he'll find himself in. He is an OLB/DE who will be lined up over TE's for he rest of his career. The reason he wasn't rushing off the edge was because it was a run play and his job is to hold the edge which he didn't even remotely do. He turned his right shoulder in and got completely taken out of the play. Not the end of the world but no reason to sugarcoat it. Bad rep, move on.

I guess, glass half full... It doesn't really matter how Ishaq looks. He is a 2nd string CAT and 3rd string DE. Not an essential player.

But as with Jarron Jones ... The light better go on before next year ...

So, my take away from everything is that ND has all kinds of good players at every single position. This team is gonna roll if Tommy shows up.

RE: Tuitt. Remembering his play from last year, and especially against Bama, the weakest part of his game was being a run stopper. He got pushed around from time to time. I have no problem with his size if he was able to maintain his burst and speed off the snap. It's only going to help him plug the hole.

Didn't he play the later part of the year with a sports hernia? I'm sure there were some negative affects on his game playing thru it.

Ishaq will be needed every bit as much as Jones next year. We lose Shembo and though we have some talented CAT prospects in the 2013 and 2014 classes, none of them will likely be ready to play at Prince's level next year. Ishaq needs to be ready to be a 1st team CAT next season. I think he can do it, Koyak just make a great play. That's the thing about practices against your own team. You don't want to see your D dominated by the offense but at the same time, if the offense struggles against the D, then it looks like they won't be very good. I will be able to evaluate the team a lot better against other teams.

They're not even going at full speed. Not sure you can take away anything from that play.

true. but we are also seeing "positive D" from guys that we are encouraged about, I.E. Isaac Rochelle.

So, if we can take the good from these plays, we can still notice the bad. i'm a huge fan of i'shaq. i want him to succeed, as with all the guys. but, what has he done? to me, even in the limited role he will/should have, i just want to see more.

TP's sight is calling him defensive breakout player of the year. i'm hoping. but, im not seeing it so far.

and yes, kudos to koyack for a good block. however, i'shaq should be dominating by now.

Last practice video makes Robinson look like AA, Mahone a solid contributer in a crowded backfield, Jaylon will never let someone get outside of him.

Yeah I was just trying to read body language/ tone more than anything. Even if Rees has royally sucked so far, Kelly wouldn't come out and say it. Not that that is the case. Far from it, but he definitely isn't as optimistic as some on here (which is expected I guess). I (and I think BK) am confident we will see the best Tommy Rees yet.

Don't read much into what Kelly said or how he said it. Everyone including Kelly is very, very pleased with Rees progression this season. And the rest of the team see him as their leader. Think he's going to surprise a lot of people this year.

Yeah. In summary, he is defensive about his weight. And insists everything is fine.
