Or, we just wanted someone other than Dayne. And, at that point in time, Tommy was the only other QB with game experience.

Yeah...I get it. I just can't wait for the day again (ie quinn and clausen) when there is no QB drama/competition. It just doesn't seem like a good way to start a season. Never seems to be fruitful for the upcoming season. It is what it is though...

Nothing to say about the horror shows or wild imaginings but I think that something we could see this year to improve punt returning is somewhat simple: create a scheme which is an actual threat to block the punt. To my knowledge there is nothing which messes up the entirety of what the punting team is doing than if they think you can actually block it. There was no reason for anyone to fear us so everyone could release like mad dogs to the receiver. And the punter could cruise his way into a relaxed high punt. No rushed punts means maximum high beautiful floaters. And a great hoard of bad guys gathering for a John Goodman welcoming party. We MUST rush the punter to get the bad kicks which are returnable.

The only time I remember us rushing the punter last year was when we had Pitt punting out of the endzone and roughed the punter. The time before that was maybe when Blanton blocked the one against Utah. There is something to the element of surprise but I do agree with us needing to put more pressure on the kicker.

That hardly counts. Blanton was completely untouched. Blocker flat out missed his assignment and he went right through at a dead sprint.

I'm just saying I think those are only two times we have rushed since Kelly.

Im really curious to know why Kelly isn't allowing any media access to tomorrow's practice. I don't know if this a good or bad thing

I'm hoping they split ones and twos in half on offense and let them scrimmage the defense Golson vs Hendrix.

This,

Plus, I sincerely hope "his dudeness" is correct with his theory (see above).

If Kelly has to raise his voice to get his point across, then so be it.

I love you guys. The responses and answers as to why we aren't having media coverage tomorrow are really awesome. Did you ever think that Kelly just really wants to let loose for one day? No media means he can yell and curse and do whatever the hell he pleases. I wouldn't want media at my practice everyday either. Maybe they want to run a mock game where they don't want the world to see? All I know is I TRUST this staff. I see it in the NFL right now. I'm a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan. Armon Binns is a wonderful player and has a shot at being really good. Do you think he gets that at the University of Cincinnati without Kelly? Simple...No. Whatever they are doing I DON'T CARE. I'm sure it will work and we will be better because of it..No holds barred tomorrow, is my guess.

Golson seems to be the clear front runner at this point, so I imagine they'll probably start to incorporate designed plays to get the ball in the hands of our playmakers and keep it away from outside eyes.

Earlier this week, I swear I was thinking about the schedule and thinking that this morning's practice would be a horrible time for the media to view because it would be the 8th straight day of practice with no days off, and it was coming off yesterday's first 2-a-day of the season, so I imagined they would be tired and not be in the best condition to practice in front of the media.

And 2 days later, the media viewing was cancelled. Now, it probably had nothing to do with it, but I thought it was a possibility...

Usually when its cancelled they like to install certain packages/plays. Also to maybe give the team a little break from outside eyes. Kinda let them relax a bit.

Just speculating but I assume that he may want to give his "ideal" starter more reps without media over hype of his selection.

Then again, caring about the media analysis of who your potential starter might be because of practice reps is silly.

Maybe a few new packages are in the works. A Shotgun 2RB set similar to Florida's option(Meyer) could be dangerous with the speed we're working with.

To be honest, I'd much rather see him ignore new packages and looks and spend more time on tempo. Oregon and Cinci had no problem executing the no huddle spread under chip/BK and even recently Butch Jones.

Watching a high tempo offense like Oregon is art and it's extremely efficient. It just doesn't fare well against defenses with southern speed.

We shall see.

Another thing I question is the pre-snap hand drop. I am confident that his been discussed before in depth on here but...

Isn't that pretty much a timing alarm. If you watch film from last year, every qb went on the first noise after dropping the hand to signal the center that they were set.

It just seems that at the speed we've ran the offense in the past under Rees and even Hendrix, teams had no problem jumping the snap once that hand drops.

Now if you're re-aligned like Oregon or Butch Jones spread on crack systems, that hand drop doesn't affect much because you're already gassing the defense. However, if we're getting our plays in with 6 seconds to go. Teams have no problem adjusting, and by adjusting I mean blitzing.

I would love to see the 2 rb package. Imagine Wood and GAIII lined up with Golson running the read option. That is one deadly combo right there.

Believe I saw that today was Parent's Day, in which players parents were encouraged to come and watch the team practice and scrimmage then hang out with their children afterwards. If so, I can definitely see why the viewing was canceled to allow for more privacy and to not have parents hassled for questions by the media.

@DavidMcCoyWSBT: Kelly on Tuitt: "Really, really tough to block." But more impressed by off the field development.

So whats the deal with Spond if he didn't have a concussion? It'd be great if he can get back by the season but there are bigger things in life than football

Prosise? Awesome.

It's the DOG position, not MIKE/WILL.

You saw how well Slaughter preformed in that roll last year, putting a safety (or psuedo-safety) at the coverage LB position can do great things.

Kelly on Niklas

HC Brian Kelly on TE Troy Niklas blocking progress: "It was all technique with him. Physically, he can lift a car up."

Awesome.

Shembo might move back to DOG now. Okwara and Prosise taking reps there as well.

Hmm? What is that smell, it smells like, the future. Now this is exciting because Romeo is THE man. Mark my words. If he picks up the posititon with Councell starting and Prosise backing them up, there are going to be a lot of quarterbacks this year that think hell is coming for them, right from the back side!

Remember, occasionally dog gets to come hard.

Oh yeah, and I have read several times that punt block against Utah was put in ad hoc because the staff noticed earlier that they were not counting out correctly. So not only was that a planned block it was a designed special and planned block.
