The thing I paid most attention to was how Lo Wood was one of the "big surprises" of camp so far...

If we can solidify the other corner to go with BJax, then our secondary looks a lot less troublesome.

So let me get this right ND, all roads lead back to dickiness? Or would that be dickhood?

The biggest improvement in our defense this year will be with our linebackers. Both insides will be better; and the outsides will be light years better. And Flemming wasn't bad. Speed, technique, and ability to play fast. The back end of our defense will be as big of a surprise with its improvement this year as the D-line was last. And Harrison Smith wasn't bad. Mark it dooowwwwwnnnn!
I agree with you bog! I feel that our secondary will be a pleasant surprise this year. The athleticism is there for these players to be serviceable, if not exciting. I think Coach Kelly and the rest of the staff are really finding it hard to hold back their excitement about Jackson. Whenever you can get a player in there that has the athleticism, learns his responsibilities, and gets his technique down, you may have something special.

DB's have to be solid because the forte of this team is not getting pressure on the passer. We should stuff the run as well as anybody in the nation but the only player on the roster who has proven he can get to the QB is Teo. We can assume ishaq and shamu (spell check?) will be good rushers from the CAT position but the fact is we dont have DE's who cause havoc...we have 300lbers who stuff runs. Hopefully Tuitt has improved here but who knows he's probably too big a boy to be agile.

another DB had to emerge...looks like maybe one has.

Shembo? How the hell did you get Shamu? Do you even watch ND games? Anyway Schwenke got to the passer in his playing time in 2010. Tuitt if he didn't get Mono he would have had better stats. DEs in 3-4s aren't supposed to get sacks anyway the Lbs are. Shembo is a proven pass rusher. Ishaq is healthy and should be great at getting to the QB.

It's Schwenke, I believe.... ;)

Shembo, Ishaq, Te'o, Day, and Tuitt should all register decently in QB pressure numbers.

Wasn't BK quoted in saying how impressed he is with Tuitt's improved lateral agility?

Lol. I believe so. Tuitt had Mono and Ishaq had an ankle injury last year. Once healthy look out. "Shamu" is pretty good at pash rushing as well. Schwenke was sick in his playing time in 2010 and he's healthy and 296 pounds and a beast. I can't wait.

Agree that we need some others to step up as pass rushers, but I do not agree that we need them to come from the DE position. We play a 3-4...that defense is meant to open up blitzes for our linebackers. The d-line plays assignment football, eats up blockers, contains the LOS, opens lanes for the linebackers to get into the backfield(almost like how the o-line is supposed to open lanes for the RB), and then after all that is done they are asked to give pressure as well. Sacks rarely come from D-Linemen who play the position properly in the 3-4.

Let me give you an example:
Green Bay plays a 3-4. Of their 29 sacks last season 18.5 came from LBs, 6 came from the DL, and 4.5 from the secondary

The Pittsburgh Steelers. Top NFL defense last season...they play a 3-4.
Of their 35 total sacks last season 26.5 came from linebackers, 6.5 from the DL, 2 from the secondary.

When you look at a scheme and want to see how it is supposed to work, you should check out those who run it the best. I'd consider these two examples to be two of the best 3-4 defenses, and they don't get many sacks from that DL....what we need are more sacks/pressure from the LBs (which, yes, you did correctly point out in your post).

Lighten up bro! He is trying. Much better job Chief!~

Kelly called Tuitt unblockable, and I am calling Schwenke beyond beastly. This kid is on fire. That is just between me and you.

At 13'11" and weighing in at 1984 lbs there is no doubt Shamu would be a force in the dline. However, Shamu has been dead since 1971.

Oh wow didn't know Prosise is playing Dog. That's very interesting. Shows you what a great athlete he is, still think he returns punts this year.

What an athlete that can return punts or play dog!

On another note: It will be interesting to see if there is the usual UND production of Diamond Lake.

Anyone else feel that the media line is much more controlled and subdued this year?

They need to be, especially NBC. I can't wait for Notre Dame footall, but the 20 million tv timeouts will **** me off as usual. It makes me hate Tom Hammond even more

Saturday, but as of yesterday nothing was posted officially at UND past Thursday's rodeo drills. I wasn't talking about game coverage, just preseason background, (I think that's what it is caused). All of a sudden I see Tommy and Carlo's sackcloth and ashes interviews, but then pieces on Irish Chocolates spring of discontent. Seeing serious retread here.

I think UND's coverage so far has been disappointing too. Have to assume that's intentional for some reason. Short little clips pieced together makes it hard to get a really good look. About the only thing we can see is the athleticism of the skill players.

Is it possible to file a Freedom of Information request?

I'm hoping the isolation is on purpose, like when Rocky went to Russia to train before fighting Ivan Drago.

Either way......18 days!

Cam McDaniel has moved back to running back. Russell, Barrati, Jalen Brown, and Mathias Farley have all looked really good and are poised to all be solid back ups.

Yeah, I saw Cam working with the RB's in the latest video. I like him as RB. I hope he gets some carries
