If you need anymore evidence, Kevin Pyne just listed his highlights as "Senior" highlights for "2019" Kevin Pyne. I hope ND is able to fit him in somehow. I'd honestly take him and Vimahi if Pyne is able to wait for a scholarship to pop up. Although I think Vimahi is trending to Utah so that would be a moot point. Pyne could be burst onto the scene in his 3rd/4th year in college after some strength and conditioning!

This isn't more evidence, this is the evidence that kicked this all off. He posted that, and then reporters started asking questions, and then the answers started to change.

So the best option for him would basically be to be a PWO and pay his own way for a semester which would suck for him having to pay but would be okay by us because he is basically age appropriate now.

Depends on what your or his definition of best is.

If he "Gold Shirts" at ND

He shows up for summer camp as a Class of '19 PWO
His clock starts as a 2019 player - 5 years to play 4.
He forks out whatever it costs to attend summer school and fall semester.
Goes on scholarship for the spring 2020 semester.
Has full access to Balis, Quinn and practice for those 6 months.

If he does what is rumored:

He graduates in June 2019
He works out with his trainers/coaches until Jan & sits out of football for the 2019 season
He shows up as a 2020 EE
He loses 6 months of Balis/Quinn/Practice in scheme and is a year behind but now has 5.5 years to play 4.
Saves $30k which is money well spent if they can afford it (99% sure they can)
(Going to a public school (like Michigan) might only cost you $5k after they waive the Out of State surcharge.

Either way just get him committed.

This just says Long an Quinn visited him today and are making him a priority. All 5 CBs are still Irish.

https://247sports.com/college/notre...tackle-Kevin-Pyne-a-major-priority-127960153/

So is he playing HS ball next year? Or is he a '19 recruit taking a gray shirt this upcoming season?

This is a strange situation.

Edit: Figured the article was behind a paywall so didn't bother clicking before typing the above. He's a 2020 recruit according to the article.

Any one feel a little iffy after watching his film?

247Sports is definitely a little iffy. They dropped him from a 95 to an 89 on their rankings which is a monumental drop. I think the 25+ offers he has especially from big time programs like Clemson, Georgia, and Notre Dame to go along with big time offensive line schools like Wisconsin I think he's definitely a take for ND. Chip Long and Jeff Quinn seem to think so if they are bothering to go see him.

People were projecting him as an elite OT because of his size. His film, to be blunt, is nothing "elite" right now. But frankly, projecting offensive linemen from HS to college is a crapshoot so *shrug*... I'd be happy to have him because he has the upside to be a top draft pick by the time he is done.

Taking his talents to....BC?

This one took a weird turn.

I’m sure the ranking on the OP won’t stay there but has BC ever landed a top ten recruit?

Anyone know what happened here? How does this effect Drew?

I'd be surprised if it did. I don't think this was a situation of ND saying no thank you as much as what Kevin might be comfortable with, at least for now.

It doesn't. Everyone in ND-Fanville is acting surprised but I 100% guarantee everyone on the staff and the Pyne family knew this was coming. They've been recruiting over him for a long time and he didn't commit (or it wasn't accepted)

Kinda surprised none of the ND analysts figured it out.

Earlier today when talking about the OT class of 2020 I typed, "Well they're stuck with Pyne" but thought that was course so I erased it and typed something like... Seems like it's done, The Pyne's are a bad family to back out on.

Clearing Gentry and Pyne off my board today makes me love the 2020 OT class now.

Even if we suppose this was a case of ND saying no, you still have Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia offers on the table. Did every single big program really back off him, or is it so hard to believe the hometown team pulled off the upset?

I mean, his film from this past year was pretty underwhelming.

It was truly so bad that 247 dropped him from being the #1 OT to #33 OT and a 3 star.

I still think he has a ton of upside though.

and from 20th nationally, to 279th.
thought i saw somewhere that he's expecting a kid?
wonder if that might have impacted his focus.
regardless, absolutely would impact his decision.

From the looks of him, I'd say it's possible.

Agree and why I posted that the staff must look at him as more of a project. I'm not heart broken about this. If he indeed is now a father, it's good for him to stay close. With all of the time commitments required of being a dad, going to school and playing football, he would have a tough road committing enough time to reach his potential and he's going to be one tired dude. lol

247 now has him at:

#1109 Overall. Ooouuch.

3*/85 and #97 OT.

Now I'm kinda rooting for him, except for when BC plays ND in '22.

Ouch is right!!! I don't recall anyone dropping that far down in all of my years following recruiting. Hope this young man proves all the doubters wrong.

Prister said the same:

https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/In-The-Film-Room-Kevin-Pyne-120040434/

I've looked at some Millis Hudl and opposing player highlights this morning. A lot of not good to be found.

I'm sure his highlight will look great as all highlights are small sample unless you get the rare prospect who has 15 minute films. (love)

But as someone who has seen Tosh Baker 4 times in person and once on TV... I never saw a single play of his like that collection of low lights.

This post is absolute gold given the talk about bizarre rankings updates today. To have a network willing to rank someone a 5:s: and post an article like this talking about their "film evaluation"... and then a year later go "j/k this guy is awful" shows they are a total joke. Zero credibility to say someone is "truly deserving of being a 5-star" and then put them outside your top 1000. They have no idea what they're doing and are throwing darts at a dartboard.
