I didn’t mean Harris was from NKY, just that all the UK/SEC folk in the NKY area aren’t quite as enchanted with Stoops and his football program these days after Barker washed out and Harris spurned his home state. UK fans all over the state were banking on on those two as the foundation to glory in a weak SEC East. Now they’ve missed their window, and the UK fans know it.

They’re mostly back to being basketball-only fans when it comes to UK, and rooting for the SEC in general during football season. They are the worst.

To be honest I didn't even know UK played football!

But hey... they got 5*, 360 lb M. Elam from from E-Town. That's got to count for something.

One 2020 TE remains at the top of the board for Notre Dame

Irish Illustrated has learned that on Monday, offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Chip Long stopped by Alexandria (Ky.) Covington Catholic high school to see Michael Mayer, the top tight end target for the Fighting Irish in the 2020 class.

Our picks actually came in following his Junior Day visit to South Bend, which couldn’t have gone better. He was in town with family on Jan. 27 and the Fighting Irish coaching staff made a major move in his recruitment.

“The highlights for me were meeting the coaching staff and seeing the facilities and weight room," said Mayer to Wiltfong shortly after the visit wrapped up. “Walking into the athletic center at noon when it started and seeing 60 to 80 guys in there lifting on a volunteer day really shows how special Notre Dame is. It really shows the hard work and effort they put in. Not saying any other colleges have this and their players don’t do this, but It was great to see in person. The coaches were great and everything about the university was great. The vibe was chill and very comfortable.”

Mayer had glowing reviews about his visit this past weekend in an article on 247. Long is putting in a lot of work in this one. As of now, I fully expect Mayer and Bauman to be a part of the 2020 class.

My connections in Park Hills had been hinting about this for a bit. After Bauman committed, it was only a matter of time until he grabbed his spot.

I’ll be at a few Cov Cath games this fall. Leggggoooooooo!

I can tell you, it's 3 coloring books, 2 Brazier's, 1 Stuckey's and 6 bathroom stops from Paducah to Pikeville. My yearly pre-parkway trek across the Commonwealth as a mini Crusader. May as well have been Texas.

Amigo, you obviously haven't driven in Texas. We have great roads here, but lots of miles. At least they let us drive fast.

My brother's team had a scrimmage against Mayer's team last Friday.

Mayer had a couple of catches, but nothing spectacular. It seems CovCath is focused on getting the ball to their senior TE/WR Jack Coldiron first and foremost, which is understandable. He's a versatile weapon, and committed to our old friend Chuck Martin at Miami (OH). I'd imagine that as the season progresses and teams focus on Coldiron, Mayer will heat up. He's a mismatch when they start force-feeding him. They are also breaking in two new QB's in the midst of a competition, so it will take some time before the new guys settle in enough to spread the ball around.

I was REALLY impressed with Mayer on defense. They moved him from DE to MLB, and he was laying the lumber. My brother's team has a RB/LB committed to Ohio, and Mayer put a hurting on him a few times. It's not fair for a guy that big to be moving around and gathering momentum from the MLB spot lol.
