Unfortunately I don't think throwing bootlegs to the flat all day will work against UNC.
They're going to crowd the line of scrimmage and dare us to throw down field.
It could get VERY ugly.
It worked against Cal, who's defense was ranked 33rd coming into this game. UNC's is 108th. So it may very well work against them, too. No chance against Clemson though.

something tells me UNC’s D won’t look like the 108th worst in the country next Saturday. Remember how Marshall was still rotating their OL b/c it was so erratic? Then they gashed ND w/ a RB who was driving for Uber this time last year.

We also held a much better offense than theirs in check in Columbus two weeks ago. Nothing's guaranteed, but we should win, and given the way our defense has played, I don't think an "ugly" loss is on the table.

Horrible hyper-nervous beginning --- got yelled at by Tommy. Then Tommy guided him back to a better mental place. Then he played pretty darn well and helped win the game. If he's "second half Drew" rather than "first quarter Drew" for the rest of the season, we'll win a few more games, and not be writhing in agony. I feel much better after this game --- not that we look like any great team, but maybe a competitive team.

Rankings two games into the season really shouldn’t hold much substance, especially when those games were against UC Davis and UNLV.

UNC on the other hand is giving up points to an awful starting schedule. If we can’t break 30 against them we are doomed this season.

Carolina's D is significantly worse than Cal's.

Looks to me like Pyne's ceiling is "game manager"
Kid played a good second half but that's exactly what it was I think the TD pass was the only ball that was completed that traveled 10+air yards. If he's the best we got,.he's the best we got

I was flat amazed that Pyne didn't throw a pick or 3. Play calling was decent all things considered. It was nice to think that Rees stepped it up a bit. That said, they NEED to get some WR involvement going forward.

I won’t say he was good but he was ok. He really need to have good week at practice and building his confidence. He looked absolutely petrified on the field today.

I’ll give you the first half, but not the second.

This QB Room MUST take another QB for next year regardless of whether Carr reclasses or not. Transfer Portal or a Top 150 Flip. Pyne was not great today and Buchner has injury prone the way he runs all the time. We need a very full QB Room. Hopefully the next OC will straighten this mess out.

Played much looser 2nd half. Gotta have faith in Drew now. Freeman should have converted to Catholicism prior to the season

Post game. Some interesting comments here. Talks about the moment he was named backup and what Freeman said to him afterwards about pride. Talks about his "never give up" mantra. Gives a lot of credit to the OL and teammates. The comment about seeing the video of Tommy chewing him out was good, lots of laughs from the reporters.

[EDIT] Just watched the Freeman post game presser too. They mentioned calling back to the moment they told Drew he would be backup, and that at some point his number would get called this season. Freeman texted Drew at the beginning of the week and said "The moment is here." Drew was so excited they had to kick him out of the office a few times "Go home, get some rest, stop watching film!"

Tommy actually called a good game and Pyne was terrible the first half. The Oline played good, Estime and Tyree were good but his passes were mostly shit and they were all shorties with low pressure. Anyone could have pretty much played better the first half and even the second. He made about 3 decent passes and with little duress. Very low ceiling but think he can play a lot better than today. If he okays shitty again and we lose another game give Angeli the nod.

God damn it he’s easy to root for and now I’m going to have mentally invest in Drew Pyne playing winning football.

He pissed down his leg the entire 1Q but put it together from there on to get the win. His success will come down to the OL performance & Rees play calling. Other than back shoulder throws, I wouldn’t want him throwing the ball downfield.
His asshole was so tight the first 20 mins. he couldn't have taken a shit if he wanted to. Once Rees unloaded the "DO YOUR FUCKIN' JOB" thru the headset he played fairly decent from there on. Maybe it the' tough love' that got him out of his funk! Damn, Marcus had to age 5 yrs. on that game to get his first win as HC.
