Regardless of whether Daniels would have beaten Buchner out, it seems pretty obvious he should have been a take. ND has nothing but question marks at QB. Buchner has been injury prone and his accuracy was suspect. Pyne is 5'10 180 lbs at 25% body fat. It may be tough for him to hang for a full season. Angeli is a true freshman. I mean..... it couldn't hurt to have one more guy that at least has some experience and arm talent.

I am not sure how you can make these statements with such certainty. JT Daniels lost his job to Slovis who then lost his job to Dart who then transferred cause he was going to lose his job. JT then goes to Georgia and isn't able to beat out Bennett. This is the history of a guy that beats out Buchner easily and is better than Coan?

He couldn't lead a team to victory over Kansas? Kansas? What makes you think he can lead a team to victory over Marshall? Kansas...
because i think buchner stinks and our defense is far better than wvu. JT put up lots of points.

I don't disagree with this. I just don't think JT was a slam dunk starter at ND and that appears to be what he was looking for.

Ron Powlus III takes snaps on the scout team every once in a while! Sorry, WTF was I thinking?!?

While this is fair, I think in hindsight he would've easily been a good addition to the QB room at the very least. I'd rather have had Buchner, Daniels, Pyne, Angeli than Buchner, Pyne, Angeli, Powlus.
The only chance Powlus ever sees the field is if our OL is even worse than we feared. If both Pyne and Angeli go down we're probably screwed anyway.

Daniels would have beaten out Buchner and it wouldn't have been close. He's better than Coan and he would have helped us beat Marshall at the very least. Daniels is a legit stud and has the potential to be a first or second round pick. He would have struggled at ND like anyone else with our poor line blocking, but he is accurate enough and has the arm talent to have made big plays that only an elite 5 star arm talent can make. I think Daniels moves the ball enough to have scored in the second half vs Ohio State. Would it have made a difference in the W/L column? Not sure, but the arm talent gap, experience level, and upside between Daniels and Buchner is immense. Turning him down is literally one of the dumbest things I can actually think of. You couldn't dream up more stupid than that. JT Daniels would've been the most talented and highest graded QB at ND since Jimmy Clausen.
He's at his 3rd stop in 5 years for a reason, and the only season he's started more than 4 games was his freshman season at USC. He's not Joe Montana.

Ok, but I don’t think Buchner would’ve been a slam dunk had Daniels or Slovis been brought in. He was “the future” but he was also “the default” for obvious reasons when you look at the QB room. It’s not like we were hearing rave reviews coming out of camp. All I recall was how bad Pyne looked…not that Buchner was going to turn heads or had really made a jump.

He would've beaten him out, but then immediately went down to injury.
That being said, not taking him (or any other senior transfer), was a massive mistake.

Why? He hasn’t gotten injured at West Virginia. I doubt Daniels is injured if he’s at ND. He’s not a runner. Even if Buchner wrongly got the nod over Daniels, we’d now (that TB is out) have a 5 star future draft pick starting against Cal instead of a midget with no arm strength.

I expect TB to get injured again if he starts in ‘23. I personally think TB transfers. Pyne is about to play 10 or 11 games. TB is not taking he or Angeli’s sport coming back imo. By the time TB returns, Angeli will have played as many snaps as TB. I think TB might be 3rd on the depth chart by ‘23 season.

I think part of it is TR really likes the QB room as people. They are all great guys and TR wanted to give them the opportunity. That’s nice of him but another fireable quality.

You can’t have both of these. JT Daniels has been injury prone his entire career. He’s been injured during 3 straight seasons. So if we’re just making Tyler a oh he’ll get injured every year kid, so is JT.

Sure, but one runs like a full back 3/4 of the time, the other had poor luck. There’s unlucky coincidence and then there’s injury prone by asking for it. Last I checked, JT is still relevant.

Feels like a hot take. There are going to be more skilled players than others on any roster. You do a disservice to yourself and your team if you're playing lesser talent out there. No coach is going to risk their job by actively trying to put lesser talent on the field. If a player sees the field it's for a strategic reason like inserting TB last year to spark the run game.

Slovis was the guy to get. How the heck do we recruit so well yet can’t ever find a QB?

He pissed down his leg the entire 1Q but put it together from there on to get the win. His success will come down to the OL performance & Rees play calling. Other than back shoulder throws, I wouldn’t want him throwing the ball downfield.

Unfortunately I don't think throwing bootlegs to the flat all day will work against UNC.
They're going to crowd the line of scrimmage and dare us to throw down field.
It could get VERY ugly.
